Hey all, Well unfortunately I can be added to that group who found Christmas something to stress over. There wasn't much to celebrate. My cousins were all down south with their mother and children (my cousins are in their fifties and their children in their twenties and thirties now). That left me alone with Dad. The holiday was quiet. He really wasn't in a celebrating type of mood so I basically hid out in my room. My saving grace for the day so I didn't have a complete melt down was I had stored all the gifts my friends had sent me for Christmas. When I felt at my worst I sat down and began to open them one after the other. I'm happy to know people thought of me, and this was one of those times I was ever so grateful to have something to look forward to. Luckily I was never one who needed a lot to make me happy. I get huge pick me up when I get a postcard, card, or letter, so seeing what my friends sent me was a bonus. Besides I am a certified Chocoholic and many of them sent me chocolate. Those simple gifts kept me from focusing on too much on what I am missing. The people who have passed on, the friends I have left behind, my job, and my life in general. The one thing about life you have to be careful of, is getting complacent. I've stopped worrying about me and focused so much on everyone else that for a while my life has become gray. That leaves you feeling drained and wondering if you are worth anything. For me those gifts reminded me of better times, things I need to focus, and reminded me that if I am not happy with how things are it is time to get off my ass and change them. I can't claim I'm happy. I am not a light switch were I go from one to the other. But for the moment I am no longer apathetic and that is better than I have been. Hang in there everyone. New year, new chances, and new opportunities. Wishing you all the best as we start over again with a blank page. Leave your indecisions behind you and move on with your life. Even at the worst of times you look for a silver lining, or so my grandmother always said. So I'm taking that advice and running with it. Today is Christmas and I hope everyone had a great day. I managed to sleep late. With my schedule lately that was an unexpected pleasure. Add to that my father cooked this year for a change and I am ecstatic. I can't remember the last time he cooked. I was luckily enough to have some friends who sent me gifts so this year I had something to open on the big day. I'll admit one of my favorite gifts this year was a book on English Fairy Tales and Legends. Anyone who knows me, will immediately know this was right up my alley. I love fairy tales and have many collections of the Grimm Fairy tales so this fit in nicely with that. I also collect magnets and I received a gift of those as well. Then of course there was the chocolate. As a chocoholic there is no such thing as bad chocolate, unless it has nuts in it. I hope the holiday brought you smiles, times with friends and loved ones. There are so many ways a world can end. I wanted to show that it is never too late to find hope and begin again. Glad you liked it.

And so a world comes to an end. A very personal world. One night of drinking and stupidity leads to the end of everything. I enjoyed the different take you had on this theme Mike. It made it really appealing in one respect and in another I wanted to walk up and smack the hell out of him for drinking and driving. The only good news is at least he didn't hit anyone while he was driving.

Wow. You created a story where it was the end of the technological world leaving people with no way to keep things going. I, like others have said, was a bit surprised at how readily he shot the attacker. I was also fairly surprised that things were not worse. It was interesting seeing how people reverted more to animalistic means in dealing with each other. There were few who acted like Gavin and Rory. I would have suspected at least a few bands who might have become nomadic but had created families like Gavin's group basically did. Interesting story all the way around. Sorry it took me a bit to get back to finish reading the rest of the anthology, but so worth it.

Married couples become a part of one another. They grumble, fight, and love but after a while they know their partner so well. I watched it with my grandparents and my parents. I wove that thread into the story because for so many of us it is true. Thank you so much for reading and commenting Cia. I really appreciate that.

Well I went through this with my mother. So it was easy to create this for the story. Only I gave Charlie a better ending than mine.
