  1. I kinda, sorta, looked at it from my own perspective...I might enjoy someone's company who I meet in a group, but not necessarily the noise and distraction of the group setting as a whole...and while I may think the person attractive, am not necessarily romantically inclined toward them, but there's still a "liking" there as a friend who is welcome company because of some similar likes and dislikes.
  2. It sounds like your mom is, slowly but surely, coming around...asking about the relationship is acknowledging both your status and your relationship without her having to use the "G" word...let it go, and give her time. It's sounding like she's becoming more concerned for your own happiness, let that work on her for a while. When she sees that you and Matt truly are happy together, she's going to go through a major paradigm shift in her thought processes--don't rush her, let it work itself in slowly first.
  3. I tried to stay away from the McDonalds' and Burger Kings while we were there...but I finally had to give in after a long day touring...it was just too easy to get a Coke there...
  4. Hey, Kevin, had to pick up this thread from the beginning to see what was going on...and it's not an unusual situation to be in. Sounds, from here, like your friend just wanted to get out, and although he wanted to do the movie as an excuse to "go out together" it still sounds like he just would rather have your company than others'. His telling you that it's "your turn to ask next time" also sounds like he's more than willing to let you have your time and space, but would still enjoy your company. Sometimes, not having a romantic interest in someone isn't the same as someone just liking to hang with you--maybe he just wanted some time out with a quiet friend, without having to do the "large group" thing.
  5. Yeah, I could tell from all the pictures you posted... )
  6. I was sorry to find out that Billy didn't have the chance to turn things around for the better...
  7. And I'll leave it to you, RKnapp, to come up the the Rube Goldberg inspired contraption that will hard-boil, then peel, eggs.
  8. For someone who hates thermodynamics, R', that's an excellent explanation....... Q: How many thermodynamic engineers does it take to boil a pot of water? A: None, they only describe it happening--and they don't know where their spouse puts the pots in the kitchen.
  9. Kit, I will, first of all, apologize for any inaccuracies or insult in the quoted statement, I wasn't trying to force a history lesson or hurt anyone, just have a good time. As far as packing it in? I guess that is just misguided talent... I'm Kelly, by the way. I apologize for the delay in responding to your post, but it was buried in the backlog since I logged in with my BlackBerry at one point and cookies got updated with new message counts. The food I had in England was "not good"....and with the exception of the one "Pub meal" we ate (which was food we could get here), we were disappointed in even the hotel restaurant--when it was open. Our weeklong trip was at the end of a cruise in 2002, so we'll have to chalk it up to an unrepresentative sample...'cause I still want to go back for more touring....but with better food! My ancestry on my father's side is mixed English, Irish and Scots, and I was never really a history buff, but must question James' sanity in choosing to take over England :king: :2hands: :ranger: ...<ahem!>... Is it possible that the Scot's created haggis as a "Gift" for the English? I mean, even the name sounds like clearing your throat...nevermind that it didn't really look appetizing...sounds more like revenge if you ask me. I take note that you were pinning the unification on the Scot's dismal financial situation....<just like someone to 'accuse' the Scots of weak financial wherewithal...> Of course, I've also heard the joke that copper wire was invented when a Jew and a Scotsman both grabbed a half-penny at the same time in the town square, neither one wanting to give it up to the other. (my husband is jewish, and this had him and his mother both rolling on the floor laughing) BTW, I'm not ignorant, just uninformed--World History in High School was so compressed that the UK got short shrift in the lesson plan...ok? Besides, it turned into something more akin to current events because of the Iranian US Embassy Hostage situation back in '79... Kelly
  10. Technically, boiling is any substance reaching its vaporization tempurature and converting from liquid to vapor. Actually, a boil is what happens while a heat source is applied to any container holding any liquid for a period of time, causing the liquid's tempurature to increase until the energy stored in the liquid exceeds its capacity for retention at that air tempurature (I cite that if you heat sugar it melts, and boils much hotter than water due to its crystalline structure). As long as more energy is being put into the liquid than can be transferred out by the constraints of the laws of physics it will "boil" due to the violent molecular change which is occurring. Once a heat source is removed, the liquid still evaporates at a rate faster than normal but is no longer at a "boil", this is why it still creates vapor, until the liquid's tempurature approaches that of the air around it and evaporation returns to a normal rate for that air tempurature, or the liquid cools and returns to its solid form (in the case of my sugar example the semi-solid is also possible, although still classified as liquid, if you have ever seen sugar being spun).
  11. This from someone living in a country with some of the blandest food I've ever tasted, as well as having taken over the country whose major contribution to the culinary world is Haggis? Tsk, tsk, tsk...you probably like beef tongue sandwiches, too!
  12. Ditto to the last two, break shell against side of sink or on counter and peel off under cold water.
  13. Graeme, I recognize some of the place names as settings for some of your stories....having wildfires in Southern California a couple years ago near where I used to live, I am well aware of the dangers of dry brush...unfortunately, loving nature has its risks...but when some fires are deliberately set, then it makes it all worse... It doesn't alleviate the suffering of the victims, but in Southern California, there is no statute of limitation on murder, whether caused due to arson, gunshot or whatever means--if someone commits a crime and someone else dies in the commission, they are automatically guilty of murder in the first degree...same goes if a repeat drunk driver kills someone while driving under the influence.
  14. They are cute pictures...having worn glasses for 15 years, there's something about a small child taking glasses off anyone else...I guess it appeals to my sense of revenge...
  15. Nerotorb, I think your friend, Jonathan, might actually be "calling for help" at this point. Moving in with you and out of his parents might have been his way of dealing with the loss of his boyfriend and cousin. But I think his choosing you to move in with was based on a subconscious decision on his part that you are the kind of friend strong enough to help him through this--he probably thinks highly of you, more than you know or he is willing to admit to openly--and implicitly trusts you to do what is necessary without himself realizing that. Keep an eye on things around the house...just to make sure he's okay. You may have to put him in the hospital--maybe that's what he's counting on, maybe not--talk to him about what's bugging him, he probably needs that most of all. Just ask him one day, "What's been bugging you so much lately?" and leave it at that...let him figure out how to answer the open question, there's obviously something resting on his shoulders. Sometimes a friend has to force a friend to open up...and sometimes it's only a question away. The other option is to hook him up with someone... ...being surrounded by friends can still be lonely without having someone special...

  19. Define what type of relationship first.
  20. They must've surveyed only hetero men...I mean, really, why would I only j/o twice a week at the most?!?!? I'd be busy if I was only doing it that infrequently....or in the seminary...(now that's an interesting name for a place!)...

    Snow Days

I saw the pictures on the news this morning while my cat was trying to wake me up at 6:30am...I don't envy anyone east of the rockies in the USA, nor anyone affected by the snow in the UK...but we're having a heatwave in So.Cal., and I'd love to send you guys at least 15F degrees...it's hot out there!
  22. And here I thought history was written by those who won the war...
  23. Rob & I also got married on October 12, 2008. Compared to that, everything else pales.
  24. Actually, Mark, the way the scene played out in my mind's eye, one song would've been long enough for Mouse to pop, then another song, or two, would be needed for Robbie and B'.
  25. Don't feel bad, Tyler, sometimes you have to wait for sunset before they can respond............ ......and congrat's on your first two posts! I had to pick two stories in the poll... A Class by Himself (MORE! {please?} ), and Savage Moon, which I just read 6/16, (Yay! ) and now need more...(only took me 3 days to read all of SM in my free time) Sorry, Comsie, I'm a voracious reader after 40 years of doing it...(Read Herbert's The Butlerian Jihad in a couple days time, was sick, over 1/2 way the first 3 hours then the fever started to rise).
