The day began normally, the sun shone, the birds sang, the wind blew, and the leaves rustled, but something I loved had been torn away, my beloved Gabriel had slipped away in the night, and now I was all alone, left behind to face this world, and to raise my 6 month old Serenity, the only piece of Gabriel I had left. I stood by his grave, counting every second, and hoping that I would wake and find this all to be nothing more than a dream, but time passed and still Gabriel lay inside his c

Chapter 2: The Tracker Monday arrived, and I dreaded the one and a half hour bus ride to work. Jose had opted to start working at a new place, luckily for him his CV contained a college degree in mechanical engineering and a list of companies that had all given him outstanding references. I on the other hand was a high school graduate who'd held down jobs in small offices. I was at a disadvantage. "You know Kevin, my employers' offer still stands." I was startled by

Morning broke cold and dark over Philadelphia. My heat had been cut off sometime during the night and the apartment was like ice. I dragged my blanket with me as I ran to the kitchen to make some coffee. I plugged the coffee maker in, flipped the switch and ran back to my room. My com-link was buzzing, I touched the center and the picture unfolded. "Hey Kevin, are you almost ready? I'm 15 minutes away" Jose's smiling face came through so clearly, I could see the worry lines that had e

May 16, 2120 "You really are just a waste of space!" Her shrill voice tore through the humid mid-afternoon air "I can't believe you!!! How daft do you get? Can't you at least TRY and do things right once in a while? I swear you're just...why do I even bother!!!" I tried to keep my composure as she berated me (yet again) for something that was completely out of my hands. This was a habit of hers, telling me I was no one, I was worth nothing. She was the only person I had though

Hello all

The world has become inhospitable, work has dried up, and he has lost all of himself. One day, one prayer, one emissary...when divine hands play at humanity, what will be the result?

I say post it. Molly makes a great point, maybe seeing the town revitalized through your story will keep some chins up, or bring some chins up. When 9/11 happened my fave fan-fics became the ones that had the heroes stopping it or helping in the clean-up. And if the story is set during spring break you have the chance to acknowledge the damage caused by the storm in a later chapter.

You're in Philly?!?! I never run into philly ppls online!!! Hi fellow Philadelphian!!! ive read both books in English and they were truly astounding, but I'm excited to read them again in Spanish, I know Gabo used a lot of colloquialisms in his writing and I could tell the translators did the best they could but I know these books in spanish will be 10x better!!

I did not know that!!!! Thank you (:

Okay fellow human beings of the site. I have always enjoyed being given writing prompts, and judging from how awesome some of the stories I have read on this site are, I know you guys would probably give the BEST writing prompts!! SO I am hoping to find on this thread a couple of prompts that I can make into short stories, and the three best ones come January (I will post a list of the prompts and we can have some sort of a vote) will become my next three on-going stories (and the ppl who suggest them shall be the beta readers and co-authors). SO Let's see what you guys come up with (:

OK. I was 12 at the time, and I was barely starting to grasp what the word "gay" meant not just for me, but for my family, and for my future. The middle school I went to was rather large, so the cafeteria was often filled to the brim during lunch periods. I had made a couple of friends at the school, and was beginning to enjoy roaming the cafeteria by myself as I said hello to the people that I had struck up friendships with. There was a girl, we'll call her Clara, and her best friend, we'll call her Marla, and they were on the cheer-squad, so they sat close to the guys in the soccer and baseball teams. I ended up choosing to sit with C and M, and slowly I was introduced to the guys and girls on the different sports teams, but let's stay focused on the soccer and baseball players. We would all usually line up for food together, maintaining a conversation in line as we waited for the line to inch forward. SO its been six months of me being at the school, I haven't admitted that I'm gay, not to myself or to anyone else, but I have friends, and I am starting to fit in. One day as we are in line, C and M keep giggling and looking over my shoulder to the guys who are in line behind me. Having watched countless movies where the "geeky, somewhat unattractive" main character gets played by the popular kids, I began to get really afraid that these girls and boys were about to "Carrie" me right in the cafeteria. Bryan, as we'll call him, grabs hold of my shoulders and turns me around, I am scared shit-less that I am about to get beat up by the guys and that it's all been a long-con set-up; but instead, Bryan grabs my waist with one hand, my chin with another and lays a big ole kiss on me, then tells me he has a crush on me. Incidentally this is also the story of how I was outed to most of my school, and how I got my first long-term boyfriend.

well my mom ust got back from Colombia and my family sent me Spanish copies of "100 Years of Solitude" and "Love in the Time of Cholera" both of which were written by Nobel Laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez who's also from Colombia (and passed away not long ago). I'm excited to read these literary pieces in the language they were written in.

I am originally from Colombia in South America. I moved to the US when i was 12 and first lived in NYC until i was 16, then we moved to Philadelphia, where I reside to this day. If financial issues were not a problem, I would love to live on a Caribbean island, but a private one so that I could step out of my house in the morning and go exploring the island every day and never have to worry about running into another human being on my hikes. Yes it's isolated, yes I know I would go crazy without ever seeing another human, but I would also be able to be myself 1111100000000000% without having to look over my shoulder to see if I've upset anyone or if anyone is trying to harm me because of our differences.

SO long as what you're saying is moving the story forward and creating some good character development, a chapter can be a paragraph or a Bible, the plot will keep the reader enslaved to the prose, if it's good.

Also I lover Cersei, and I think this is one of her best lines in the show.

This quote saved my life. This quote convinced a 15 year-old me not to self-harm. I will forever be grateful for this quote.

"Good Morning New York! It is 8:15am on a B-E-A-U-tiful day, with highs of 60 and no humidity in the air. Let's start the day with brand new music by up-and-coming pop-star--" The bed was too comfortable to allow Ezra to get up. The down comforter still smelled like fresh laundry, and the captivating scent made Ezra even lazier, his pillows were fluffy, firm, but yielding, and they were strewn around him creating a cocoon of comfort. He stretched his arms and tried to find a way out of the

Night fell over the streets of Luziana. My father, my sisters and I were walking home. Father hastened us along; we all knew what prowled in the night, we had all heard of the sudden disappearances, the agonizing screams. Some of the peasants had even spoken about seeing the corpses of their loved ones rising from the grave, suddenly thirsty for blood. We walked in a close group, father at the lead, my youngest sister in the middle of a protective circle made up by me and my other thr
