  1. Perhaps organize it so that each gathering occurs at the exact same moment in time and we can contact eachother? As in, the England meeting occurs at night and the NYC meeting occurs five hours earlier (1pm EST, 6pm GMT, or whatever the time differance is)?
  2. Naturally I voted for the city, but I probably won't [be able to] go. I chose June since that's summertime and November since it's at least mid-semester and unlikely to have midterms since engineers typically get several exams each semester that are more dispersed. As for summer, I'll be working full time and will likely have two summer classes unless I can kill one during the winter break. That weekend in December is likely a finals area, so no, lol.
  3. I understand why he did what he did. I just hope that at some point he realized that he couldn't control what happened and that it wasn't his fault. That bully should have gotten a much harsher sentence than what he did. Attacking him for being gay is one thing, but attacking him for being handicapped is simply inexcusable. He likely took several months away from his already short-projected life and should have served a jail term for attempted murder. *sigh* bickering and contempt isn't going to solve anything at this point though. I hope Tim and his gramps can find solace also in knowing that he is home now, free of pain and prejudice, and is with his parents and brothers again. Knowing that my grandmother is now with my grandfather once more, and free of the physical and emotional pain that old age brings (passed away at 94 with serious dimentia and hardly able to move) helped in coping with her passing. Damn, I'm getting bleary-eyed and this is first I've heard of him.
  4. A nice follow-up to the worm gene article, BSK, thank you. My only complaint is that this is a study, and not an experiment. I'm not condoning experimenting on human sexual orientation, I just think that this sort of passive experimentation will not give any concrete evidence to the effect of genes on sexual orientation. I agree with writeincodes assessment of the Exodus study. All of the participants involved were seeking help and wanted to change. What he should have done is find participants who were comfortable in their skin. The ones he chose were already halfway to this supposed "salvation" by wanting to alter their orientation and align it with the path of righteousness. This suggests that they have spent their lives fighting with themselves internally, hating themselves, not allowing themselves any sort of pleasure, etc. This puts them in a very vulnerable place and makes them easily susceptible to something that anyone says that may be what they want to hear. Someone who is comfortable in their own skin would provide much more concrete evidence. Additionally, the guy said that this new study has a pro-gay agenda, meanwhile his own study quite clearly has an anti-gay agenda that is searching for a means to his own ends. This new study seeks only answers to long-burning questions, rather than a means to an end. f**king whackjob dumbass.
  5. This a very interesting find indeed. I had always believed that orientation was determined by the size of the sex driving within the brain, but I had never considered the possibility of genes playing a part it this. However, as the article state, the worm brain is very complex and is in fact different from our own. Unless they can reproduce these results using rodent subjects, I'll continue to be skeptical. Either way, in your face religion!
  6. I'm celebrating spending the weekend in my pajamas! I haven't done that in... well... I don't know how long! Weekend isn't over yet, but I don't foresee putting on pants until tomorrow morning
  7. Say what? I thought India wasn't progressive... Oh well, congratulations to them! Maybe things are looking up for you after all BSK!
  8. I have no idea what my church's stance on the issue is (considering that it's Roman Catholic, I'm not getting my hopes up) but AFAIK it doesn't concern itself with homosexuality -- there are more pressing matters at hand than something that doesn't even indirectly affect the comings and goings of everyday society (like, I don't know, Iraq? Iran? Israel? California? N. Korea?). The point is, their stance is a passive one. The worst picketing I have seen is people standing on the side of the Flemington circle and holding up picket signs, protesting abortion. I took a quick second of my time to floor it and driving within inches of the curb, allowing my open-cone air intake system to scare the bejesus out of them. That was a good day
  9. 17 years old? May I ask what happened? Loss is always hard to take and I understand exactly what his boyfriend and family are going through... I went through the same thing a little more than two years ago when my only surviving grandparent passed away -- the only one I ever knew and loved. But, they have some solace in knowing that they had the pleasure of knowing and interacting with him while he was here. The coming weeks will be very difficult for them as the memories come pouring back, so I wish them well.
  10. Anything having to do with Fred Phelps is not pleasant.
  11. Not only are they anti-gay, but they hate America. They have no respect for the country in which they were born and raised and gave them the right to free speech for which they claim allows them defecate over her lost soldiers. This isn't a matter of free speech, this is a matter of borderline treason. Sure, there are many groups out there who speak against the US government and its supposed war on terror, but not one of them smiles brightly as the death toll climbs. This is the only group who does so and then goes so far as to destroy the families' final farewell in the name of something that has nothing to do with the soldier or his family. What if Mathew Snyder was a God-fearing catholic, just like his parents, and also looked down upon the gay community? What they're doing is conjuring lies about innocent people to support their agenda and bring down the government in the name of God. I present to you that these people are two things. They are sinners of the worst variety for tarnishing on the Lord's name and they are communists for denouncing the government. Note: If you also denounce the government, I am not calling you a communist. I am calling these ingrates communists to show that the blade of the written word is indeed a doubled-edged one. Also note that I am not religious, but I won't tolerate people who justify their ill-conceived actions in His name.
  12. My mom gave me bags of candy before I went back to school on Sunday lol. She had three shopping bags full of candy, yet she knows that not many kids come by these days!
  13. If you want a cheap place like that in the northeast, avoid Jersey. The cost of living here is horrendous. Bucks County PA is so rich because people live there while working in Hunterdon County, NJ (one of the richest counties in the country). I firmly believe that this is the fact that causes New Jersey drivers to hate everyone else so much, because then we get a lot of PA motorists on our highways, and PA motorists like to go at or under the speed limit in the fast lane.
  14. ROFLMFAOTNTPMP!!!1!1!1!!!!1onehundredelevenfinity! "My first album just has some innuendo, but by my third album I'll act like a full blown ho" hahaha
  15. Yes, have a merry All Hallow's Eve!
  16. - Start a bonfire - Win a road race (similar to a Grand Prix) - Build a motor from the oil pan up and race it - Participate in a burnout competition - See the world at 200+ MPH - Visit the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia - Work in an alternative energy field (wind power, solar power, hydrogen fuel cell, etc.) - Fall in love and have a subsequent relationship (sappy, I know) - Lose my virginity LOL
  17. I'm sorry, but that's a bullshit excuse. It still gives homophobic enforcers of the law a bloody sword to strike down innocent people.
  18. My cooking shows how I can multi-task. I can make a charred meal AND burn down the building!
  19. I can see both, but counter-clockwise is definitely superior to clockwise. I had to concentrate a lot to get her to spin clockwise. I did so by focusing on her feet and thinking to myself, "Ok, when her outstretched foot moves left, it should be in front her axial foot, as opposed to behind it," and it started working when I trained my eyes to see that. Once that was doing I looked up to her ponytail and saw the same clockwise pattern. Unfortunately, her ponytail quickly reversed direction once more went in the more obvious direction, counter-clockwise. It's kind of odd that I am a left-brainer and left-handed. Although, considering that I am an engineer in training, it's not that surprising that the left side of my brain is more exercised than the right, even though I'm told I'm a talented artist.
  20. Looks almost spot-on, though ball sports and attention span are entirely too large... what were we talking about again?
  21. People who say Joisey anger me, because they clearly have never lived in NJ for a long amount of time (I have lived here for the past 11 years).
  22. There's a article out there by tree-huggers who are blaming the fires on Bush. I'm too lazy to find and link it though. Maybe tomorrow.
  23. Move to New Jersey! The worst natural disaster New Jersey has ever had is its government! Sadly, I'm not kidding. The New Jersey government is screwed up and corrupted beyond belief.
  24. Whatever you do is up to your budget, which can be very tight for a lot of clubs. As for movie nights, consult your faculty advisor. At my GSA we brought up the idea of a movie night and found that whatever SSTV doesn't have in its closet or files, we must get a copyright for. Copyrights can run from $400-900 and must be obtained for public viewings! Besides that, you can organize little get-togethers outside of the regular meetings to just chill... no business at all. Except for practicing our Safe Zone presentations, a bunch of us are getting together at the presidents house for booze and QAF this coming Sunday night. Believe me I know what you're going through. I'm pretty much the only regular member in the club. The VP, P, and secretary are always there, the treasurer isn't a staple, but he's there sometimes. The web master isn't always there, but she's there sometimes. Then we have a few people who come and go at their leisure. The PR leader and her girlfriend haven't even been there in a while. This low attendance puts the club itself in a bind since myself and all of the student leaders are leaving at the end of next semester, so we really need to do a membership drive. Congrats on your position! If I wasn't so busy I would have put my name in the ring to take the treasurers position since he stepped down to take over being the Safe Zone administrator. But, I'm an engineering major, so I let the web master take it.
  25. I don't mind seeing. I do mind paying to see it. $9 for one theater ticket is ridiculous when it's a lot less than that to rent it for five days.
