“Is the moronic Meghan's marriage morganatic?” The wiki page on morganatic marriage contains a link to “Gold digger” obviously a typo… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morganatic_marriage -
Looks like it’ll be cloudy in UK not sure it will be as bright as Hale-Bopp in 1997 which I remember was spectacular

Neither August Ferdinand Möbius (1790-1868) nor Johann Benedict Listing (1808-1882) invented the Möbius Strip - this Roman mosaic from about 200AD (at a Roman villa in Sentinum, now called Sassoferrato) proves it was known in the ancient world (I guess we’ll never know whether the Ancient Greeks, or Indian or Islamic mathematicians, ever figured out the mathematics).

On 19 December 1932, 90 years ago today, the BBC began its overseas broadcasting (now called the World Service) which was announced with an excited fanfare of triumphal trumpeting from the Director General, John Reith: "Don't expect too much... the programmes will neither be very interesting nor very good.”

Strange but true… the British Prime Minister must be at least 18 years old but doesn’t have to be a British citizen they can be an Irish citizen or a Commonwealth country citizen but with some extra rules around membership date, date of birth etc

FIFA - corrupt dishonest and spineless Association Football (soccer in the US). How did a game invented 150 years in England end up being controlled by an infamously corrupt, dishonest and spineless “organisation” headquartered in Zurich? It’s a while since I posted a point of view but the current World Cup is all over the news and TV schedules and for all the wrong reasons - thanks to the greedy, self-serving, incompetent male patriarchy that has controlled FIFA for generations and nobody has cared or understood what they were up to until the execrable Seb Blatter’s corruption and mismanagement hit the headlines. And now we have the latest disgraceful behaviour by this band of misogynist, homophobic, venal, male-dominated, self-serving, talentless grifters, exemplified by the infantile, ignorant, arrogant president Gianni Infantino who truly lived up to his surname with his jaw dropping attempts to defend awarding the World Cup to Qatar and thereby actively supporting its abhorrent oppression and persecution of sexual freedom whilst simultaneously lambasting the wave of outrage now crashing onto FIFA by attacking “Europe” for its values and history. Sorry, Mr Infantile, but we are living in the present, where people are being beaten up and jailed just for loving someone of the same sex, and whatever happened or was done by Europeans during the last “3,000 years” is history. You are no historian and your job is not to lecture and chastise a whole continent on a subject of which you clearly have only the feeblest understanding, but to make sensible policy decisions for the good of the game and for the values you and FIFA dishonestly claim to support but don’t.

The board game Anti-Monopoly was not allowed to use the word “monopoly” because Monopoly claimed a monopoly on the use of “monopoly” in board game names. But after lengthy legal wrangles Monopoly lost the monopoly on “monopoly” and so Monopoly no longer has a monopoly on “monopoly”

Yesterday was “budget day” in the UK when the Chancellor of the Exchequer (the “finance minister”) tries to “balance the books” (i.e. raise taxes ) of the nation’s economy in a speech in the House of Commons (equivalent to the US Congress) to all his fellow MPs. It lasts on average around an hour and the Chancellor is allowed to bring his own choice of liquid “refreshment” - whatever he/she wants, such as whisky (Kenneth Clarke from a cut glass tumbler - pic below), gin and tonic (Geoffrey Howe), brandy and water (Benjamin Disraeli), sherry and beaten egg (Gladstone)

A blot on England’s history that it created the Puritans in the first place, and then allowed them to infect a foreign land with their cuddly, fun-loving beliefs. I guess none of this is taught in US schools
