  1. It’s easy to dismiss short films like this as ‘slight’ because not much happens, not much is said, and it’s all been done before But what’s actually happening (as those who have lived this experience will understand) is all internal - the thoughts, feelings, loneliness, longing, and of course the disappointment and fear. All these things this short film conveys well And the message is important - keeping these things ‘internal’ can have terrible consequences. ‘Silent Secrets’ should not stay silent
  2. words evolve - like viruses and spread - like memes scaff OED: “to eat voraciously” earliest English usage 1762, unknown origin scoff OED: “to eat voraciously” earliest English usage 1798 (variant /alteration of scaff) scarf OED: “food” earliest American usage 1932 (variant /alteration of scoff /scaff)
  3. to eat greedily

  5. Hi Afri Welcome to GA! Suggest you start with “Tags” then “Setting” where you’ll find “University” and “School” - scroll to the bottom of the link: https://gayauthors.org/stories/browse/genre-tag/ Pretty sure others will come up with some specific story recommendations Happy reading
  6. of course the cat 🐈 is going to totally ignore the ‘cat tree’ - like for-ev-vah!! - and set up home on that cool desk
  7. US college ‘wrestling’ - surely…
  8. ah, so I’m guessing they play just fine for YT’s ‘home’ market in the US? and (curious business model) YT just want to annoy ‘foreign’ users https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/298744625/allow-guests-to-watch-embedded-youtube-videos-when-they-re-asked-to-sign-in-to-prove-not-bot?hl=en-GB
  9. I’ve been getting this problem recently - embedded YTs won’t play when you “click” them and simply display “Sign in to confirm that you’re not a bot” Didn’t used to happen - is it just me with my iPad 6 iOS 16.6 or is it because of the recent platform upgrade? Link to this post and YouTubes that won’t open
  10. Jesu Joy Of Man’s Desiring / Jesus bleibet meine Freude sung by a beautiful baritone (the voice of course… ) and almost 100 years ago this famous arrangement from 1926 written for solo piano by Dame Myra Hess, a very romantic interpretation, which brings out Bach’s delightful layered counter melodies
  11. I was amazed Netflix refuse to allow you to search availability of what you want to see, they just want to sign up another ‘sucker’ - their pathetic website simply says “Netflix has an extensive library of feature films, documentaries, TV programmes, anime, award-winning Netflix originals, and more. Watch as much as you want, any time you want” - yeah, like that’s really helpful… https://www.netflix.com/gb/
  12. “Content unavailable” in UK, sadly https://tubitv.com/movies/602279/just-friends
  13. Seems you have these options: 1. Amazon Prime ‘30 day free trial’ - Just Friends is listed HERE 2. Edit: Apple TV - similar deal I believe 3. Edit: seems Netflix don’t have any rights, so a VPN won’t help
  14. a quick Google finds Jack + Rayane first meet S6 and the last season is S8 turns out there’s a huge +dedicated fan base out there 💕 …and this fan has curated every single scene they’re in from S6-S8 and added English subtitles! which is a lot of viewing (click on each series link to a whole bunch of vids for each series) https://jayaneenglishsubs.wordpress.com/watch/ Character+storyline précis: https://jayaneenglishsubs.wordpress.com/about/ ________________ Edit to correct: Runs from S6 to S8
  15. JUST FRIENDS (Gewoon Vrienden) 2018 - 80 minutes Enjoyable, well-scripted, quality production Dutch TV movie. Joris (right) is an introvert gym-bunny from an affluent family. He doesn’t know what to do with his life, so plays with his camera drone. Yad (left) is a party person but money is tight (his family are Syrian migrants). He also doesn’t know what to do with his life, so takes a cleaning job to pay his rent - cleaning for Joris’s grandma (middle ) It’s a gentle romcom (they’re both ‘out’) with the usual story arc - meeting, attraction, tensions, breakup and resolution - but touches on some serious issues along the way. A feel-good movie perfect for a Valentine’s night in, on the sofa 💕 I snagged a DVD for a few pounds (which includes a gay movie short, ‘Caged (2013),’ with the same actor who plays Joris) and various copies (original Dutch soundtrack) are posted on YouTube (and other sites) but I couldn’t find one with proper English subtitles/captions (Portuguese in the link here and 720p pic quality in the YouTube app. You can select auto translate but it’s AI…):
  16. reminds me of a gay Thai movie I saw some years ago, Phor Lae Lukchai, involving time travel to relive ‘roads travelled’ and so change actions /decisions in order to prevent tragic outcomes +achieve happiness
  17. I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash (1972) no surprise it’s been covered countless times - “music is the best medicine” I can see clearly now the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in my way Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind It's gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day It's gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day Oh, yes I can make it now the pain is gone All of the bad feelings have disappeared Here is that rainbow I've been praying for It's gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day look all around, there's nothing but blue skies Look straight ahead, there's nothing but blue skies I can see clearly now the rain is gone I can see all obstacles in my way Here is that rainbow I've been praying for It's gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day It's gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day Bri-ri-ri-ri', bright, (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day, yeah, eh It's gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day It's gonna be a bright (bright) Bright (bright) sunshiny day, yeah
  18. hobbies are mostly harmless …and safer than helping Dad out in the garden
  19. Trainspotting Factoids #1 dialogue in the 1996 movie is in “Scots” dialect (some say language) - if you’ve seen the movie you’ll have needed subtitles #2 the book (and movie) are named after “trainspotters” who (some say obsessively ) chase after +record (in notebooks, pics or vids) seemingly trivial (some say pointless ) information like loco numbers #3 Irvine Welsh says he chose this name “because only trainspotters can understand why they spot trains” and he compared the act of spotting trains to “the act of using heroin, which may seem pointless to people who don't use it” #4 trainspotting originated in England - 1841 is the earliest record (Colonel James Pennyman - trains on the Great North of England Railway), which is quite late considering locos had been operating commercially almost 30 years since 1812 #5 a huge chunk of British YouTube channels are trainspotters #6 not to be confused with bus spotting - same activities, but different folk mostly separate from trainspotters, although there is some overlap eg Nathan:
  20. Chroniques Sexuelles D'Une Famille D'Aujourd'Hui (2012) Has anyone seen this movie? It kind of qualifies here because the older son in the family is bi (or bi-curious) and also he’s hot It’s very French, quite funny, and shot in cinéma-vérité style - “a style of film-making characterized by realistic… films which avoid artificiality” and, uh *coughs* it sure does that You see, the film kicks off with the premise that the mum is confronted by the headmaster (she’s just been summoned to the school) suspending the younger son who’s just been caught at school in biology class “wiggling the weasel” under the desk and filming it to fulfil a dare by his classmates. Which leads to mum+dad engaging with their sons about what they get up to and where they might have ‘gone wrong’. And so one thing leads to another as the cameras follow the various family members around while they, er, get up to what they get up to… But here’s the thing - because it’s cinéma-vérité what you see is actually happening, not faked… There’s an interview online with the film’s directors and the principal actor (the younger son) in French (link below) + an English translation I got somehow (also pdf) but I don’t know if a pdf on an iPad can be attached? https://www.toloda.com/sites/default/files/cs_dossierpresse.pdf
  21. this plopped into my YT ‘in-tray’ - can’t think why not been mentioned here, so is it just fluffy dross?
  22. Capricorn One ever wondered how NASA might have got away with hoaxing the Moon landings? well maybe this movie was the origin for those conspiracy theories…
  23. pop music is a great fit for AI because it’s created within an established framework of rules (the rules of music - melody, harmony, rhythm, structure - and the ‘rules’ of the various pop genres)
  24. what that book needed
  25. the most important item in any British home …because the whole tea-making process must be completed within the 3 minute TV ad breaks So many people (millions) turn on their kettles at the exact same time that the UK has had to build special power stations underneath mountains that go from zero to max output in seconds in order to cope with the load and highly-qualified engineers carefully scrutinise the TV guides so they can flip the switches seconds before the ad break starts and prevent the entire electricity distribution system from exploding https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_pickup#:~:text=TV pickups occur during breaks, demand on the electrical grid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinorwig_Power_Station
