  1. I was a major geek in high school. Stage crew, AD&D, video games and comic books. That was the life. lb.
  2. David Guetta featuring Sia - Titanium. lb.
  3. I'm not a huge fan of Star Wars, I do like the movies but never considered myself to be a diehard fan. This game kind of snuck up on me. I started off lukewarm and then when it was released I couldn't stop frothing at the mouth from excitement. The game is not pushing any boundaries in terms of gameplay, but the voice overs and pet system is VERY engaging. Loving this game so far. lb.
  4. SW:TOR is SO GOOD. *drools* I found that I can't morally play a sith, so I opted for just Republic characters. What server are you on? lb.
  5. Just the mints. lb.
  6. That was both really moving and depressing and uplifting at the same time. I feel for the kid; I hated middle school. And as cliched as it sounds, it does get better. I applaud his strength to a) admit to cutting and post this video. I certainly wasn't anywhere near as strong at his age. I especially like the parallels between his video and Sia's Breathe Me in terms of concept. lb.
  7. Suikoden was one of the few games I've ever felt like crying during parts of. I felt the storylines felt more original than Final Fantasy (which I would agree has been linear since VI.) I would actually go as far to say that the games have been boring for a long long time. It feels like they are trying desperately to make the game as visually stunning at the expense of substance. But then again, a lot of video games go that route. Suikoden's 1, 2 and 3 were some of my favorite RPG's. Suikoden 4 was pretty heinous though. lb.
  8. I'm a sucker for cute/romantic commercials. I loved it! The parts that got me specifically were the 'warm fuzzies' the guy on camera has in the beginning, the butterflies he gets when he introduces his bf to his family. Yeah, I can relate. lb.
  9. Thank you for reading and the review! Since the story is seen from Eli's point of view, David not asking him out after they met doesn't really get explained. Well, not for a few chapters at any rate. Chance will be around in the following chapter. Muahahahaha.
  10. I would agree with you there about females being an untapped market. In some ways they are being tapped, the Nintendo DS, iPhone and Droid markets do a fabulous job targeting them, but there is a pretty distinct difference between those games and games for say console gaming. Some games have a female leaning but I don't think any game has women specifically in mind. lb.
  11. http://www.theesa.com/facts/pdfs/ESA_EF_2011.pdf The Entertainment Software Association begs to differ. Sure the divide is nowhere as wide since the early 2000's but most games that are fps, rts, rpg, mmo and fighting games still largely focus on males. I think the big question is what does gender mean to you for video games? Lb.
  12. I have to say, the more of TBC I write the more I begin to love David and everything he stands for. I'll post some drawings of the cast when I get a free moment. Yeah, Eli is a bit infuriating at times, he means well, but he's as broken as any of the others. Thanks for the comment!
  13. What about Moves like Jabba? Hehehe. lb.
  14. Eli isn't particularly flighty with his feelings but David is the first person he's met that has been remotely interested in him in a more-than-platonic fashion, so it's hard not to be slightly giddy. I remember when someone was interested in me 'in that way' I was just floored. Thank you for reading and commenting!
  15. I've thought a lot about this and have decided that if someone came to me and told me he saw someone sodomizing a child, I would probably freak out and call the cops. Such an accusation cannot in good conscious be taken lightly. Paterno isn't a forgetful person; he's sharp as a tack and merely going to his supervisors and seeing them do nothing is pretty damning. That said, he's probably the least guilty of a group of extremely guilty human beings. Just my opinion. lb.
  16. I think the system is broken personally because while a gender-neutral society works in someone's world, the culprit is almost always the reader who maintains 'real world' social dynamic baggage. It doesn't help that most video games are played by males. A few years back I was having a conversation with a female professor who had mentioned how difficult it was to have a career in her field. Later she said that it's all right that men can have 'type A' personalities because we tend to venerate that behavior but the moment a woman shows any signs of being 'type A' she comes across as being a bitch. Another conversation I had with friends were on famous sci-fi/fantasy writers like Tolkien and Douglas who apparently can't write strong females to save their lives. I can understand given the era in which they wrote and I'm sure future generations will look upon the writers of this era and mock our weird gender roles too. On a funnier note, a male friend once tried playing a female character in D&D and each time he spoke he tried speaking at a higher pitch and softer and I. Couldn't. Stop. Laughing. Personally, I think we each perceive gender roles differently, and trying to build a world where things are gender neutral will always be tainted by what we know and feel. Just my two cents. lb.
  17. The day after Chance left, I was in high spirits. The gang drove him to BWI, cracking jokes and telling stories of how we all met one another along the way. Lucy gave him the quilt we all worked on and it brought tears to his eyes. There was an amusing group hug in the terminal and as each of us looked at the travel notices flash by, the slow realization that we would be losing one of our own became imminent. Chance reached out and grabbed my hand and squeezed it tightly. I wished desperate
  18. I know what you mean about the angst filled college stories. I've been forcing myself to spend time in Dupont Circle so I had a sense of what things were like there. I live in DC so it's kind of strange that I spend little to no time there. I'm glad you're enjoying the story and thank you for the review!
  19. Thank you for reading! I'm glad you're enjoying it.
  20. I tried so very hard to keep my promises to my friends, and while I was largely good on keeping them, there were times when I outright failed. Chance certainly didn't force me to make that promise; I had made it hoping for the best. I simply didn't prepare for the worst. The upcoming months were dismal at best, I felt like half of my soul was being shredded by Chance's preparations of leaving DC, and that when he was gone, I'd be half the man I was. Each time I saw Chance, my heart sunk to
  21. One year after the first meeting of friends, the four of us were hanging out at Chance's apartment on a Saturday evening, curled around the television watching some godawful movie that David brought. Chance's sofa was one of those extremely long pieces of furniture from the 70's that could hold all 4 of us, and still have space for Chance's aging black lab, Samson. David had heard reviews of this movie, about a group of women who go spelunking into the cave of hell, or something. It wasn't tha
  22. I come from an ultra-progressive family, but the fear that they might flip a lid scared the crap of me. My ex came out to his family before I did, and that was what prodded me to do the same. But I understand your apprehension and hope the best. lb.
  23. We began hanging out every couple days when all of us had time. It was pretty staged initially even a little forced, but necessary as we were still getting to know one another and there was virtually no common ground. David offered his place to hang out, and other times it was Chance’s house, or a park, or a coffeeshop. David’s condo was massive, located in the heart of Dupont Circle and was immaculately furnished, which was fitting for David; both seemingly stepped out of GQ photospreads. H
  24. Ranma 1/2 (bought the whole series and watched it with my partner. So wonderfully subversive) Genshiken Full Metal Alchemist Ghost in the Shell Ghost in the Shell: Innocence Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex Totoro Spirited Away Princess Mononoke So yes...love Anime. Go to Otakon every year. lb.
  25. Interviewers have 'stock questions' they ask everyone. For instance: What can you bring to the job? Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What is your biggest weakness? Be prepared to answer these questions in a way that doesn't seem like you memorized the answer!! Interviews are annoying because you have to puff out your chest to seem willing and able, and competent so if you aren't big into praising your abilities, start doing so now. The last question I posted is a way you can make a fault into a good quality. I had to serve as a reference for an assistant and they asked that very question and I said, "Well, so-and-so is extremely thorough which means she likes to take her time and make sure she's doing the job right." Chances are, most interviewers are bored with interviewing, so it's always nice to ask questions and get their minds active. Sometimes if you ask the right question, you can ingratiate yourself to their good side, this works even better if the person who is interviewing you is your potential boss. Some jobs have you interview with several people in the office; obviously, try to impress them all, ESPECIALLY the office assistant. Don't apologize for sucking at an interview. If you don't know the answer to a question, don't fake it; own up to it. Don't backpedal, and don't repeat things you've mentioned before. Do NOT get defensive if they ask you questions. Don't fake enthusiasm, interviewers can generally see through that. Find nice ways to segue through the interview process to drop in things you're good at. Don't use your resume as a checklist of things to talk about unless they ask first. Sculpt your resume for the job you're applying for. *** From the employer's side of things, I tend to hire people I get good energy from and someone I would have to train once and who would need little to no prompting. I've had my share of awful assistants (all work study) and some amazing ones that I would refer instantly if they needed it. The employer/employee relationship is very symbiotic which entails a lot of give and take. They are there to make your life easier, but they aren't punching bags or someone you can blame if things go south. Hope that's helpful. lb.
