I understand history and I've lived through 27.2% of American history. I grew up in a part of Kentucky where the democratic party won just about every local election. Trust me, I know as a gay republican, I was not welcomed. So, Judge Collins is a reflection of my mindset--- how I would have done things. Thank you, for being you and raking the time to read and comment on my story. 😀

When I first found the Gay Authors community, I was so far back in the closet I practically needed a plane ticket just to reach the door. I grew up around people who equated being gay with being evil, and my hometown made its disdain for anyone like me painfully clear. I served in the military before “don’t ask, don’t tell,” so hiding who I was wasn’t just expected — it felt necessary. Finding GA was a relief I didn’t even know I needed. For the first time, I had a space filled with people who understood, supported, and simply got me. This community let me take off the mask I’d been forced to wear for years and finally be myself — my true self. I’m deeply grateful to Myr and to everyone who founded, shaped, and continues to operate this site. What you’ve built here matters more than you know.

I agree this attitude isn’t limited to Kentucky. But, just like everywhere else, there are men like the judge — men who stand tall even when no one is cheering, and who hold fast to the principle of human rights for all, not just the wealthy.

I, like Bill, and many other, miss Wayne. He helped me a lot when I had family turning their backs on me. He was my proofreader while I was writing Trials and Tabulations and I proof his last story. He was a kind and gentle soul. People like Wayne is why I like being a part of this community. We miss you Wayne ❤️
