What others think of me is none of my business.

Not a word:a phrase: "That being said, ..." Well no duh YOU JUST SAID IT. No need to rehash, let's just move on. Need an example? "I believe in puppies. That being said, I also believe in kittens." Better: "I believe in puppies. And also kittens." Or even better: "I believe in puppies AND kittens." BEST: "..." ..because lets face it, anyone believing in puppies and kittens is a PERVERT. IT'S KITTENS AND PUPPIES you twisted fool. ALPHABETIZE NOUNS PLEASE. I'll get my coat.

I'M STILL WAITING FOR CHAPTER 4
-
Coffee mugs in the cupboard: handles all point the same way. Also, placed upside down. I do a lot of cabling work in my occupation. This is a roadie wrap. When done right, as the cute guy says, it will be the size of your head and won't knot up. Any cables in my cable bag that aren't "rw" will be redone. Also my toolbag is sacrosanct. If you work for me, and you go in my toolbag, I'll fire you.

I am really glad to finally meet someone on here who isn't pretending to be their profile picture. Nice to meet you Velefried.

Will is 14 years old and can't or won't see 3 feet in front of him, let alone the family dynamics in other families. My best friend at that age had, to be charitable, "inattentive" parents. Mine weren't exactly engaged but at least we had some framework in which we were expected to operate. Anyway I didn't see (nor care) how that affected him, I only thought it was cool that he could stay out as late as he wanted and we could smoke various and sundry substances at his house without having to sneak it. it was only after I'd grown up a bit that I realized how much that must have sucked for him and began to see how much it pissed him off. So, I guess I'm saying I get Will's issues. Good chapter, Mark, I'm glad to see Wade and Matt involving each other in each other's uh, affairs

Scientists Build First Working Quantum Network
Gene Splicer PHD replied to JamesSavik's topic in The Lounge
I used a network like this twelve years from now, back when I was 26. It seemed that time travel was a potential side effect along with changes to probability and there really will be no way to compensate. Or to put it another way as a flowerpot once said to me in a couple of years, "Oh no, not again" -
Hang on I'll answer this after I get to a save

Child celebrities opposing Kirk Cameron
Gene Splicer PHD replied to Gene Splicer PHD's topic in The Lounge
Kirk Cameron is a moron. While I respect anyone who speaks of their religious beliefs and has the passion he does towards Christianity, I can't help but be absolutely baffled by his complete denial of what he has seen in the past about teh gay. It's one thing to believe in God and Christianity. Its quite another to deny what you've experienced to push an agenda of an organized religion. ...And that's where I jump off the box and shaddap about that. I love what his fellow child actors are doing with this, and I really appreciate Alan Thicke and Tracy Gold for speaking their opposition to the guy's beliefs, without really ostracizing him much. There's a lesson there about accepting someone for who they are while disagreeing with what they believe, isn't there? On the other hand, KC is a pretty much failed actor from a one-off sitcom from the nineties, so his opinion is uh, not worth much. The people in the video, though, are pretty damn funny. "Neil Patrick Harris. I want my money dude." -
Buncha ccokcs or something.

Story Review Featured Story: How The Light Gets In
Gene Splicer PHD commented on Trebs's blog entry in Gay Authors News
As much as I admire the technical skill Duncan Ryder has shown in these stories, I stopped reading him a long time ago. His stories go way too long between updates, and when he does update, the plot movement is so incremental it drives me nuts. I find the same thing is true with Dom Luka. Just way too much time between updates and not enough movement story-wise to keep me interested. I will probably read his stories when he finishes them. I don't expect that before 2015 at the earliest. -
The Paradox of Friendship

There are some truly fucked up characters in this story. -
True fact: All peeps that exist in the world today were made on one assembly line in Madison Wisconsin in 1952. All of them are stored in a warehouse near the original plant (sadly, the plant exploded in 1953, which guaranteed that the rather tedious-and-yet-fiddly manufacturing process was lost forever). Did you know that a peep is perfectly flat when it comes off the assembly line? They get pumped full of nitrogen to inflate them just before packaging, and can be dyed at the same time. The warehouse is full of flat peeps stored on pallets in a cold storage facility. When Easter rolls around the peeps are pulled from storage, dusted off, inflated and dyed if needed. They are shipped to stores starting in March, but the timing has to be right or the peeps lose their nitrogen charge, which leads to cracking of the peepcrust. Starting tomorrow, when Easter is over, there will be a few days of local half-off sales for the remaining peeps on store shelves. Anything that's left from the half-off sales will be shipped back to the warehouse, flattened and stored again to be sold the next year. Through the wonders of good supply chain management, in some cases the same peeps have been unpacked, inflated, flattened and stored over thirty times. If this little niblet of peepdata has interested you, ask me about the pickle material used by fast food chains. I am a fount of good solid facts about these things.

EA brushes off parents group's complaints about same sex romance o
Gene Splicer PHD replied to Cyhort's topic in The Lounge
EA is in complete damage control mode because of the crap they're taking about being the worst company. They're gaming the forums on reddit and 4chan (i.e. people are being paid by EA to promote the good things EA is doing). In the meantime, origin and this, my personal experience that's happened TWICE with them. 1. Buy a new PC 2. Attempt to install EA game, and transfer the product key to the new box. 3. Fight with EA about whether I own it and should be able to move it from one machine to another (their SA says I can, but really, I can't). 4. End up disgusted. I don't buy from, nor support, EA in any way, regardless of their apparently token support of LGBT issues. In any case, it's cheaper for them to take a stand to support an existing game, than it is to rewrite endings (which they are now doing with ME3,and you'll pay for the new DLC with the better ending anyway). EA sucks. In every way possible, they suck. They suck worse than Apple, they suck worse than Microsoft. Bobby Butthole is the bottom feeding scum of the tech industry. -
The Paradox of Friendship
Gene Splicer PHD replied to InTheMindOfSunshine's topic in Stories Discussion Forum
Hi: I want to elaborate a bit on my review - which was pretty short. I said in the review that I think the characters are unpleasant. What I mean by that is that I think they reflect what is almost a symbolic anger - I'm not sure you put it there intentionally. Was that deliberate on your part? Did you write this story in an angry mindset? I think your writing is good. You definitely have me fully engaged in the plot, which is coming clearer as the story progresses. Your characterizations are very good, and your dialog is also excellent. So I'm not dissing your skills, I'm questioning if these characters are unpleasant because they reflect your frame of mind as you wrote the story, or if you're framing the characters to be angry to further the plot. I completely understand that your characters are working in a distorted reality I also understand that there's an arc to the story and we're about 1/3 the way there. I'm willing to put up with characters that make me want to slap them silly. Its tricky to carry an arc through a long story. I'll be patient. Keep writing and posting. It's a good story. -

Minecraft is the digital equivalent of Legos (if they have those in Oz, you know them when you step on one) on steroids. You have your building blocks. You have your environment (for me, my bedroom floor), with the added capability of mining for more blocks - who didn't want more blocks in Legos? And you have the excitement of a creeper showing up and blowing chunks out of your creations - the equivalent of a bigger sister or brother. It runs in Java -meaning it runs anywhere. Along with that, you've got crafting for more abilities, puzzle solving for getting out of trouble in survival mode, and the whole "sandbox" of creative mode. It's genius and its perfect for getting kids to use their brains for more than targeting campers I set up a minecraft server for my nieces and their friends (all 13-14 year olds) because I wanted them to be able to share a world without griefers and/or in a private way. They LOVED it. (I need to restart that server someday). Notch, the creator of the game, is accessible. He's made 80 million bucks off this game and its dumb looking art and very basic functionality.. It's ridiculous, and it's ridiculously addictive. I can't wait to see what independent, young developers do with technology coming up. As long as we can get them off the smartphones and onto the consoles and PCs and Macs, we will see some truly awesome and smart gaming.

IT BETTER BE A SHORT WEEK Just kidding. Take your time, it will be worth the wait. Also: NO PRESSURE

I like everything about this story except the posting schedule. It seems rather sparse.

Do you like to watch paint dry? Crops grow? Do you like to spread fertilizer? Then this is for you. HILARIOUS times attempting to back a tractor into a pole barn. Apparently I am easily entertained. My brand of awesome: Minecraft Then homeworld2complex. It's a mod of Homeworld 2, long abandoned by Sierra. The Complex mod is a complete re-do of the game, done by volunteers, Others I play: Age of Mythology. Age of Empires in any version. The Settlers. Halo Reach (although Halo ODST is by far the best of the series). COD. I play bridge. So Bridge Baron. The Sims, long enough to wall them into the kitchen and have the least trained Sim try to cook something. Midtown Madness. Any GTA game. Need for Speed. Starcraft 2. About 20 others.
