I do not believe Jules will turn up, unless Margot was completely truthful to her online and vented her frustration with Owen and Ryder. Vermont is quite a distance... An intriguing thought, however. Shakespearian almost and definitely comedy and tragedy combined, anything is possible.... I am wondering how Ryder will help Owen. Being there for him will only work as long as Owen lets him be there. And how will Ryder fond a way to do that with Margot monopolising "her fiancé"? Unimaginable. So Owen must put a distance between her and himself. Does he even know how to do that????

Lying is indeed Owen's "thing". He has taken that one step further. Before I remember him lying only by keeping quiet and letting people think they know him. The sooner this blows up the better. There is nothing gained by waiting. I can't imagine Owen going along with everything Margot will expect from him. She will be angry with him anyway for not reacting to her texts. We'll see...

If he makes it home tonight or not - that is not the question. He left with Ryder, which is far more important.

Beautiful. And promising. I am so relieved that Owen left with Ryder. A momentous decision for him, even if he needed Beth's approval. It is a step forward. In the right direction. And I am really impressed by Ryder. He is great with the kids. And they simply accept him. Ellie's painting also prompts him to move forward. Beautiful image.

How can this play out without high drama? I am aghast that the parents do not see Owen. They are in for a lot of surprises, to put it mildly. I am relieved that Ryder does not set an ultimatum. At the moment Owen does not have it in him to break free and stand up for himself. I wonder what it will take for him to take that step... Ryder coming with Jules to the party would be perfect and a fairy tale. And this story is anything but.

Finally! Yes! Owen still needs to find the strength to be himself. But now he knows more about himself and he knows what he will be standing up for. It won't be easy, though...

Owen says no to Margot for the first time, if I remember correctly. That is what struck me most. And he feels attracted to Ryder and welcomes it. What Margot thinks and does seems unimportant in that light.
-
I hope that Owen will somehow get out of the promises he had given by not contradicting Margot and the mothers. He has been silent all throughout. I wonder when he will find his voice... And I wonder what the last days with the children will teach Owen. And what finally will make him stand up for himself. He has grown inside. The only ones to know are Beth and Ryder. I guess it will be Jules who may shake her girlfriend back into her senses. The rest is blinded.

Margot's reaction strikes me as callous. She does not see Owen and his despair. Owen's reaction to Ellie's distress was so beautiful to see. Beth seems to be the only one to actually "see" him apart from the seahorses, aptly named - delicate and precious...

This will soon explode or Owen will lose himself completely. I wonder what it will take to stop Margot from continuing their destructive charade. She is driving Owen into utter desperation by outperforming any actrice. Does she not realize what she is doing to him? Either Jules will put out an ultimatum or Owen might do something desperate.

Has Owen told lies? I can't remember any. He is briliant at not mentioning things and letting people fill in the gaps as they like in my eyes.

I do not agree fully. Standing up for yourself, being yourself in such a narrow-minded family must be very hard to do. The problem is that such lies and covers have a way of taking on a life of their own. You add one lie to the other because it is easier than admitting the truth. With every lie coming out gets harder. Margot slipped. Jules sees through her but she still trusts her. I guess that Owen will break at one point. He will want to break out because otherwise he will lose Ryder.

Superb contrast between real Owen and Owen the performance. Killer end of chapter. Very gripping and intense.

Chapter 20 - Getting To Know All About You
mayday commented on Paladin's story chapter in Chapter 20 - Getting To Know All About You
Yes, very insightful of the boys. Things however, are going so well now that there must be some problems coming from somewhere. My guess is from the ex-wives...- 25 comments

Thank you for posting early! This is a delight to read. I love those tiny steps Taggert is making towards trust and Ash. And Ash's power of observation.

Chapter 19 - Rich Kid, Poor Kid
mayday commented on Paladin's story chapter in Chapter 19 - Rich Kid, Poor Kid
I guess we are set up for a contrast in attitudes towards money. The twins' partners + Nathan versus the ex-wives. I would like to know what is going on with Martin's younger son. I cannot imagine him happy at home without his siblings. The party will give us a chance to meet him, I hope. -
We do not get tornados over here. But I felt the danger and its immense force in every sentence. Unbelievable that a storm can strip the ground bare... Can't wait for the next chapter.

Beautiful ending. Thank you for sharing.

And they will all pretend either to have seen nothing or that they had always known that something about George was wrong... No, Pam did not " know", but she shut her eyes and ears to the truth, like too many mothers have done, who could not/would not believe what their instincts told them. Looking the other side, or, in the worst case, blaming the victim is far easier than blaming the perpetrator. She has a hard road to go now. But there is hope for Colt and Noah. Which is all that counts in my eyes.

Great chapter! Great story telling. But hard to read, just like other chapters here.

I feared the same for a moment, but dismissed that thought at once.... Now I am not so sure...

This almost sounds like an ending. And a much better one than I could have imagined in the beginning. Thank you for sharing.
