Is there something to that, tho? Are Des and Blair the same age? Could they be brothers? Or share a soul or some crazy shit like that? And why oh why didn’t Desmond test his theory by checking Specter’s reaction after his shower?! I want to smack every character upside the head. Does everyone have ADHD?

I’m surprised Sam wasn’t with Blair. The slowly growing sense of dread is stressing me out, LOL. You’re setting us up for something big almost TOO well.

The sacrifice turns 23 on the winter solstice, so it wouldn’t be Des. There is something to HIM being the one prepared though, instead of Sam. What I find interesting is that it never occurs to him that Zabrowski is cheating. And what’s with the nightmares? It distresses me that someone could be controlling Desmond’s mind. I guess I’ve felt that he was mentally very strong after what he’s gone through. Happiness has weakened him? I’m also wondering if the increased sex drive has something to do with this ... I have to keep reminding myself that Desmond and Gabriel are not that much older than Sam. They are old souls. Edited to add: sorry I posted twice! I wish we could delete comments.

They both have something to share about the fire guy. Gabriel knows Sam’s seeing him. Des knows he saved Sam from a worse beating. Everything would be fine ... if Des and Blair hadn’t had a stand-off in the coffee line.

They didn’t figure out the scent thing, dammit. And why don’t they remember their dreams? And what could Desmond do that would make Specter attack? So much is still a mystery.

I agree about the absurdity. I thought Desmond would’ve followed Sam by now — Des had that week off thanks to Tessa, and I figured he would watch Sam then. Blair was still off, too. It feels like this is dragging on, but maybe it wouldn’t if we weren’t reading it with time between chapters? But I have faith all will be exposed soon — maybe even Specter’s weird response to Eve’s scent. And how did Eve know about the deli if it’s so far away? 🤔

Well, the good news is Sam has two of the baddest mf’s around who love him and will kill to protect him. The bad news is those two mf’s may try to kill each other as well. Sam certainly draws hard assholes who are gentle only for him.

I like that Wolfgang now has more insight into what it’s like for Jed dealing with an entity that takes you over. There’s also the chance that Wolfgang had become settled and near-swaggering with his power, and needed a reminder that he’s not in as much control as he thinks.

... are Guardians just on call, and don’t have regular guardianing shifts? I can almost smell Blair’s house. Gross. It’s pretty cool that the main trio never gets sick. Saves them having to buy health insurance. Surprised Sam didn’t read up on his ability.

Adding Specter to this trio was a great decision. This series has become my favorite on the site! Thank you for updating it so quickly and regularly.

I think it was an honest mistake to leave it. Also, the universe seems to be pulling them together. AND: Fire and water. Mates! (P.S.: Sam can “only” breathe under water?!)

*immediately goes back to the first story to check the fire guy’s name* *comes back disappointed* Meant to mention — I think you should reconsider your concept of time. You often say the characters stare or think for several minutes when several seconds is more realistic. Do you know how long 30 seconds is? It feels like forever. If Sam and Eve stared at each other in awkwardly tense silence for 3-4 minutes they’d look (and I would think feel) crazy af.

I can’t believe I entertained the idea of Desmond training Sam to be a killer in the first story. He’s clueless. I hope he won’t be their downfall. I’m still wondering how far the trio moved from the original city, and if they changed their names.

They should have copied everything in that envelope before handing it over to the sheriff. You know, in case it goes missing. Plenty happened in this chapter! Don’t be so hard on yourself.

My first thought: Yay! Where are they? Another country? My second thought: They got jobs? Nobody runs background checks? If they’re using their real names they’ll be so easy to find ... My third thought: Big-ass dog who loves his masters. Excellent guard dog! The name is a bad idea, tho. And finally: I love the humor ... while it lasts. The title IS rather ominous.

I enjoyed this story so much! I’ve been addicted — I check several times a day every day for updates. Thank you for such distinct and engaging characters, and for the steady updates. I’m excited to see where you take the guys next! I’m assuming it’ll involve the elements people and the video vixen at some point? 🙂

Good chapter, but changing back and forth from first to third person is jarring. I think it may be accidental.
