  1. Personal opinion - Goldens. I've had two and they were the best! Although my daughters new black lab pup promises to be just as good. Every time I think of a basset hound, I can't help but think of a line from Smoky and the Bandit, and now it will be indelibly welded together. "Frog, feed Fred"
  2. Not snowing here yet, but they say its gonna, then rain, sleet, back to snow, and finishing off with temps in the single digits so everything freezes solid.
  3. My horse was very curious when we introduced him to Wings' pup. Her horse just looked at her like "Why is she so small?" The pup was not afraid, but seemed to have a healthy respect for their size. That is either being territorial or horney!
  4. You forgot the last two lines of that prayer! "Lord grant me the strength not to kill people today, A bat should it become necessary, And the wisdom to know if I should or should not!"

    Anything New?

Anyway, this was all on my mind, so I thought I'd get it down while thinking about it. You have hit a key component here Renee. Finding the time to write will get more difficult as J grows. Grab several notebooks from the dollar store, and scater them around your regular paths through the house, along with pens. I also found it helpful to tie the pens to the notebooks! Then jot down notes as you think of them, and pull the pages to take to your computer when you are ready to write. In my case it was not fiction, but more like to do lists etc, but the point is to be able to physically "collect your thoughts" when you sit down and then say "what did I want to write?"
  6. Oops, sorry A, but the editor in me kicked in!

    Meeting Max

I think what I like most about your stories is your ability to tell it like it is, not the way people think it should be. You don't sugar coat things. Max is going to have problems no matter how well he gets along with the guys. Louis feels a bit railroaded right now, which is also natural. You could almost hear Louis thinking "Here we go again!" Being the right thing to do does not make it easy, and you portray that well, right from the begining, before the real problems start cropping up. Looks like Louis' rock will be occupied more frequently for a while.
  8. Yeah Gary! Collies are fantastically smart, mostly quiet, and soooooo pretty. Have you introduced her to your mare yet?
  9. Not sure that is too much help though...
  10. Woohoo! Governor Murphy declared a state of emergency so the horse show that first moved from Sunday to Saturday to avoid problems has now been cancelled completely. I get to sleep in and hide under my quilt till things settle!
  11. Haven't had the first snowflake, but governor declared a state of emergency so horse show got cancelled That means I get to hibernate too!
  12. You would be shocked at the number of people who think some detail is not important. We have a new therapy client who is being extremely resistant to getting on the horse. We are making VERY slow progress. At the end of the second session we found out the last time she was on a horse at the previous program she had a complete melt down. Umm...didn't you think that an important little detale?
  13. Oh yes, for most domesticated creachers. Dogs, horses, children, spouses...
  14. Think he needs a better sunscreen!
  15. Power came back around 3 am. Crews are still out there working. When i got up to reset clocks etc i tacked a towel over the window. The shades just were not cutting it! Seriously thinking about calling out today too. Cold is not really bad enough to keep me in, but the lack of sleep... Hope you all feel better and are snug and warm.
  16. This might get interesting. What sounded like a major collision on the highway, followed by several arcing explosions on the power lines, and now been without power over an hour. Toss an extra quilt on the bed and go to sleep you say? Not bloody likely with half a dozen emergency vehicles all with their obnoxious lights playing on my ceiling and walls.
  17. You have just the one mare, right? Why not get heated buckets for her? A little expensive, but soooooo worth it!
  18. We have heaters where we can, but some fields are just too far out to have electric service.
  19. Lol More like self preservation. Wet on 20* days is bad news!
  20. Let's see Snowblower fueled and started -check Generator filed and test run -check Horses settled with heavy rugs -check Groceries stocked, including comfort foods -check Quilts freshly laundered -check All electronics fully charged -check That should be sufficient to see to it we get the minimum impact from the storm. If I didn't do all that we would get burried!
  21. Troughs are easier, crack with a hammer then use a pitch fork (dedicated, not used on manure) to move the chunks. Somehow I always manage to get soaked when doing the stall buckets.
  22. Well,, sort of. Been breaking ice out of water buckets and troughs.

    All Good Things

Oh I quite agree, but it still sounds to me like he is trying to convince himself staying home in his comfy job and empty house is what he wants.
