gender & sexuality "Wearing men's clothes doesn't make you a boy."
Thorn Wilde posted a blog entry in The Fantastic Mr. Wilde
No. You're right. It doesn't. I'm not trans masculine because I wear men's clothes. I wear men's clothes because I'm trans masculine. It's not because they're more comfortable (though they are), it's not because I don't like women's clothes (I do), it's because if people are going to recognise me as not a girl, I need to have a masculine gender expression, which starts with clothes. I wear men's clothes for the same reason most cis guys do. Whenever they talk about kids who are trans, this thing comes up. 'Yes, she always preferred wearing pink and sparkly clothes, even when she was a boy.' And then someone will go, 'Well, he's not a girl just because he wears pink!' First of all, she wasn't a boy. She was a girl. Secondly, most little kids prefer pink and sparkly things before they become socialised away from it (I've worked in daycare looking after one and two-year-olds; there were nine boys and one girl in the group, and the boys literally fought over who got to wear the princess dress). And thirdly, once she grew older, she wanted to wear what other girls were wearing, hence the pink. I don't get why this is so hard to understand. Gender and gender expression is not the same thing, but gender expression feels like it validates your gender. You can't tell someone's gender by the toys they play with or the clothes they wear, but they will often choose to play with the toys and wear the clothes that correspond with the gender expression of their gender. Trans women are criticised by some feminists for wearing super girly clothes and lots of make-up and taking on traditional feminine gender roles. There's a reason they do that, because if they don't they won't pass, and if they don't pass people won't recognise them as women. One of my friends who's transitioned had facial feminisation surgery, to make their face more feminine. Finally, they had the courage to cut their hair short and wear jeans and loose t-shirts and beanies and flannel shirts, and just in general dress like a 90s lesbian, because they would no longer be misgendered if they did. No need to constantly wear the girliest clothes imaginable in order to pass as not a man. I feel validated when I wear men's clothes. I feel comfortable. I feel like maybe one day I could pass, even if I have the girliest fucking face on the planet (and God, I hate that). One day, I want people to see me and think I'm male when I feel male. And if that's gonna happen, I can't wear girly clothes. I have to exhibit a masculine gender expression, because I am trans masculine.- 11 comments

I have an awful cough as well. I'm otherwise well from my shitty cold, but the cough lingers. Always does. It sucks. On a different note: Damnit, this shirt needs cufflinks, and I'm too embarrassed to ask my stepdad for some...

Hope you both manage to get some more sleep, @Mikiesboy and @MacGreg! I'm getting up to bake gingerbread with my mum. Yay, time zones!

Early-ish start tomorrow, so I'm gonna get some sleep, I think. Been in bed for a while, but Tesla was exploring and restless so would have been hard to sleep. She's settled down on the bed next to me now. Goodnight, all!

Where's it from?

It's Christmas. Heard this one today and can't get it out of my head now.
-
Aww... wish you could just stay at home in bed. I vote doctor so you can go back home and get into bed.

Yay cookies! Tomorrow is Christmas dinner and gift opening. Because us Scandinavians are weird like that and do all that stuff on Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day. Not sure why, we just do. Before that we'll be visiting my dad's grave to light a candle and put down a wreath. Tradition. Thank you! Decorating the tree is always my job. Not entirely sure why, as I'm slightly allergic to spruce and my hands start itching...

Nice and temperate. -6C here.

Promised pictures of Christmas tree! Gotta show off some ornaments, too. Some of them are 100 years old...Picture quality's pretty low cause otherwise I wouldn't have been able to fit them all. I may upload them all to the gallery in full size later, though. If I can be bothered. We're traditionalists, I guess. Christmas tree lights are meant to look like candles. Bird of paradise. One of the oldest ornaments, I think: Nativity scene, also old: My grandmother made the pine cone. Or, well, painted it and put glitter on: And I love this glass icicle: Sorry about the spam.

Finished decorating the tree. I’ll share a pic or two once I’m back on my laptop and can resize them, as they’re too big for GA. It’s 2018, can we have more space for attachments, please?

Well, I'm at my parents'. Tesla is skeptical. We've put her in the library with an improvised screen door, to keep her separated from my mum's cats. Anubis would probably think it was just fine to have her out and about in the house, but Merit doesn't like other cats (she barely tolerates her house mate; she's a rescue from a house where there were way too many cats and none of them were neutered, so she's pretty traumatised and has always had to fight for everything). I'm sitting in the library with my laptop keeping Tesla company now. Thinking I might do some writing while I'm in here. Tesla seems a bit happier with me in here, though she doesn't want food. She ate a treat I gave her, though.

Feeling any better today, @Mikiesboy?

This might amuse someone, so I’ll just leave it here.

Good morning, all! I’m up and having breakfast and about to wrap presents. Parents are picking me up in 2 hours. Hope everyone’s well this morning!

Lololol! It's -5C here. Which isn't that cold, really. It's not properly cold until it drops to -10. -5 is crisp. I hate warm temps... If it goes above 25C I feel like I'm cooking. Hope you feel better tomorrow, @Mikiesboy! Man, I missed all the conversation tonight. I was gonna wrap Christmas presents today. Instead I spent about three hours reinstalling my Fallout 4 mods, and have been gaming since. Bedtime now, so I have time to wrap those presents before my parents come to pick me up tomorrow. I'm bringing Tesla and staying over at my parents' for a couple of nights, for Christmas. Tomorrow will be tree decorating (we always do it the day before Christmas Eve) and probably some tasty food and Christmassy things on TV. I'll be around, though, probably. Goodnight, DiC! ❤️

Hope you’ll warm up!

Wanted to play Fallout 4. Turns out that in the months since I last played, Nexus mods has changed mod managers and so I have to reinstall all my mods using the new manager. Le sigh...

Made me laugh.

Take care of yourself, tim. Or let yourself be taken care of.

I don’t drink the stuff. I cook with it and use it for cereal and in my tea. I’m actually lactose intolerant, but you get lactose free dairy these days. Yay!

Not in the least!

I like 3%... More fat = tastier milk. I could probably make do with 2%, though. The next one down from 3% here is 1.5%, which I think is too little.
