Dave's name used to be Leo... But then he didn't feel like a Leo anymore but had very clearly become a Dave. Nick was already so established for me that there was no changing any part of him. The possible confusion occurred to me, but then again, stuff like that happens in real life. Zoë is Nick's big sister. It's in the first couple of paragraphs, I believe. Thank you for reviewing!

Still loving this story! I like Chris, he's a good person. Quick nitpicking: ‘Some English teachers marked him down for writing “familiarized” instead of “familiarised” with the s. He spent three paragraphs ranting about it.’ This line jarred with me a little bit. Feels like you wouldn't formulate it that way in speech, since you can't see the spelling when you talk. Seems to me it would flow better if he'd said: ‘Some English teachers marked him down for writing “familiarised” with a z instead of an s. He spent three paragraphs ranting about it.’

Very much enjoying this! Liking the characters (interestingly, your David is really similar to my Dave, both in appearance and, to an extent, in personality). The grammar is a little untidy in some places, but overall I like your writing style and your choice if phrasing. Keep it up! I shall keep reading now.

Most of the chapters are between 2000 and 4000 words, with the entire novel clocking in at about 55,000. I always found young adult fiction lacking in that it never properly addressed the issues that teenagers are actually faced with and instead kept trying to enforce morality. So I wanted to write something real, where the characters make their choices and the wrong one isn't such a big deal. Where they use language that teenagers would use, even if it's supposedly inappropriate. Realism is important to me.

Sorry about the double post, couldn't figure out how to edit in another quote into the last one... Even if I do self-publish, I have no intention of removing the version of the story I post here from the site. I love the idea of there being several versions of my story out there. Wow, thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I feel loved. It's a coming of age/coming out story, set in a fictional small town in the UK. Summary is as follows: 'In the West Midlands small town of Windfield Green, being gay is something of a rarity. For Nick Davis, the idea of coming out feels like a death sentence, and things only become more difficult when he falls in love with his best enemy, the popular and good looking Dave Thompson.' Basically, two boys figuring themselves out and finding their place in the world. There's also a short story collection, most of which deal with queer issues of one sort or another, based on the story's minor characters. Also working on the idea of writing a sequel. What can I say? I just love these boys, and it feels like they have many stories left to tell. I just submitted the first chapter.

I think he's a fantastic character, and very well rounded. Can't help but notice that no one seems to have mentioned any female characters (I just skimmed, though)... Is this the kind of environment where we differentiate between gay and lesbian, I wonder...? Either way, I feel the need to mention Charlie from Supernatural, played by the awesome and very, very hot nerd icon Felicia Day.

Movies completely aside, as Reasoning With Vampires continues to show on a day to day basis, the books are just plain bad. One thing is the story, which is rife with unhealthy relationships and couldn't pass the Bechdel test to save its life, but the writing is horrendous! If this is the edited and published version, I wonder how bad it was before... In the words of Alex Day, 'Stupid Stephanie Meyer, this is not how you book!' I will defend the actors of the films, though. They've done what they can with the shittiest script ever put to film, and the worst story ever published. Not their fault.
