  1. Just wanted to make a post to talk about the stories found on the Bloodbank. To find out more about The Bloodbank or to jump in and start checking things out use the following link. http://bloodbank.shackoutback.net Hope Com doesn't mind me starting this topic
  2. Little off topic but does anyone have a rough idea about the conversion or difference, of word document to print. In other words; what would 1 page in standard format using MS Word translate to in printed book form. I don't think I described that correctly, but I was just wondering if this were a real book where would I be progress wise; as far as pages.
  3. I found this site after jumping around on Comicality's site. He's also the reason i started to write again.
  4. I work on all of them at once. There have been sevearl times when I was jumping around in 3 different documents. I don't need much time between stories. I just sit down and write.

  6. Lots of great advice here thanks everyone.
  7. Yeah I'm never really satsified with a chapter, I always want it be...more, more than it is. I know i'll never write a perfect piece of work but I know I need to do better than what I've been doing lately even if just for myself.
  8. I was talking with an editor of another site about my work and being a fairly new author and though he didn't say so I began to apply some of the things he mentioned to myself. And realized that despite the fact that I have two editors and two beta readers I've done little to actually improve my writing skill other than to continue writing and branch out with my story types. I've gained more experience with writing by continuing to write, I've gained a bit more perspective by taking the advice of my editors and those of readers. I actually looked back at one of my first chapters and I know that I was trying a lot harder then than I have been recently with all my distractions. (no excuse) I think I feel into the trap of enjoying my own story, in the end I continue to write because I like the story I'm telling and others are enjoying it as well. I take no shame in saying that I need to remember that just because readers are enjoying my work doesn't mean there isn't more work to be done and more progress to be made. So now I'm sitting here looking at an unfinished chapter and wondering if I need to start all over and focus more. Or perhaps attempt to look at everything differently. Any advice, from some of the veterans?
  9. Thanks a lot.
  10. Actually I'm waiting to recieve some really good criticism. Not that I overly enjoy, negative feedback at all but without that criticism it all starts to feel like everyone is blowing smoke. I'm new at this so, it hard to think that it's all good feedback. That said when I do recieve criticism of that kind, I hope it's constructive. I intend to use it to help improve my writing.
  11. Actually I can see that the title doesn't connect well with the contents. Really I was just looking for something a little more catchy than, "what do you think?"
  12. I guess you could argue the that the heart of each story comes from the effort and dedication given to the story by the author. In a circumstance where an author is working on more than one or possibly several stories at once. Which story is it that really has the authors heart. Each story will have some meaning to author of course but is it possible for an author to "be in love" with more than one story? I'm working on several stories at the moment and while one story may have went over pretty well with the readers and another may be easier to write; only one holds the place of being my favorite piece of work. The story that I love writing, the story I love progressing and even sometimes get caught up in the story as I write it. I enjoy all the stories I write but there is only one that I love. Your thoughts... :topic title edited:
  13. I think some of those rules are pretty good actually but I'd never follow all of them, to many exceptions. Each writer has his own style and that style has it's own rules.
  14. Yeah that sounds like it be pretty cool.
  15. My characters come from all over; my imagination, real life and sometimes a mix of the two. The characters in my new story Bad Seed for example, Kyle Wellmen the main character, his first name is the name of the first guy I was ever with. His last name the last name of my first crush. And all the other character names and personalities are mixes of different people I know or knew along with my own personal outlook on things mixed in.
  16. Actually I don't work the stories out in my head before, not really. There may be one or two things that I want to have happen just to connect them to other thigns but for the most part I free write. I really don't like it when I map out a story. I find myself getting bored with the story pretty quick. On the other hand that could contribute to the amount of time it takes for me to complete a chapter.
  17. I know there was a good discussion on chapter length, but I was wondering how long it takes everyone to complete a new chapter. On certain stories it can take me the better half of a month and on some just a few days.
  18. That's something I think about a lot, because at some point in each story I wonder if something terrible should happen to one of the characters and death is always an option. When I wrote, AAT I wrote it with the intent of trying to be emotionally intense. Honestly it was a bit of a test for myself, as I lack emotion in most of my writing. And from the moment I had the idea for the story I knew I was going to kill off the main character.
  19. It looks great Nick, kudos to Rob.
  20. Congrats man, us Shared Hosted's are multiplying like rabbits.
  21. I know exactly what you mean, and it gets a bit repetitive. The parents die and now they move in with their lover. I'm a big fan of unhappy endings that make sense. And I have no prob killing of characters if serves the story. Not that those other stories were bad but it's just repetitive.
  22. haha yeah I guess I could do that but I'd have to come up with a story, plus I like the images to correspond to the story. Which did you like best?
  23. Once again , the amazingly generous and incredibly talented Birdsofafeather. Has helped me out and provided me with some artwork to accompany my story. Edited by me: resized and text added. and this image was provided by a reader, Patrick, via e-mail. Wish i could use them both. Haven't decided on which to use yet. Any thoughts.
  24. I agree an unfinished story can be pretty annoying. Though I rather have a bit of a waith on the good stuff than get a lot of quick updates that aren't as good. I'm pretty close to putting one of my stories on hiatus myself.
  25. In my opinion, as long as it doesn't go completely dead in here it's all good.
