Chapter 19 The Senses of the Heart
Cole Matthews commented on Cole Matthews's story chapter in Chapter 19 The Senses of the Heart
Thanks. I didn't have time to plan it, so once again, I wonder where this came from. We're having a wonderful time, so where did the melancholy come from. It's interesting to consider. I really appreciate the kinds words. -
The Senses of a Heart By Cole Matthews Moldy oranges Phillip opened the fridge and peered inside. His mind was racing as he looked for a snack. The containers of leftovers, spaghetti, pot roast, and a bag of English muffins weren’t promising. They also threatened his new diet, which he was trying now to lose about twenty pounds and a couple of inches from his waist. He crouched down, knees creaking, and slid open the fruit drawer, breathing deeply. A couple of wrinkled

It's overcast and rainy here as well. There's some reading to do this weekend. Yeah!!!! -
I agree, wholeheartedly. However, reading all you people's comments has opened up some ideas about today's upcoming prompt session with Valkyrie. We'll see what you've got the wheels in my mind to churn out. We are having a blast with this trip. Talking out writing with your peers is really an exercise for the mind!!! Thanks for the encouraging comment!!!

I'm going to pose a couple of question in reference to your comment. I agree with your sentiment, of course, but consider this. What if you're married to someone of the opposite sex and your desire for another of the same sex creeps up on you? Perhaps it wasn't something you felt strongly, but it comes upon you like a thief in the night, stealing your heart? What do you do? Your comment has engaged my mind in another contemplation today. Expect more prompts today!!! Thank you!

So true. We have been discussing the nature of love and so perhaps that's what came through. Or else, Randy and I have been binge watching Weeds and the ideas came through from that. I don't know. Love is a mustard seed which can sprout in whatever place, but when plant, may not germinate. I appreciate your comment. Thanks!!!

It was to me at the time as well. Here's a funny incident from yesterday. Valkyrie and I were shopping and chatting about generic things, and she said something about not liking people who cheat, regarding a song on the radio. I agreed and then when we returned home and I reread my prompt, I started to laugh. The mind is a fascinating thing, making connections and inferences when we don't even know it. Thanks for the lovely comment. I appreciate it.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's interesting what directions the mind can take things. As I mentioned with Puppilull's comments, this was timed and so I didn't plan it. It came out in a very different way than my usual fare. Thanks for the comment!

I agree. This prompt was timed and for some bizarre reason, it lead to this. The imagination is a powerful and strange thing. Thanks for the review. More coming today!

Dalton awoke with a start. The glowing digits on the clock radio told him the time was 3:17 am. As his consciousness took hold, the knocking pipes startled and frightened him, again. For the past three nights, the sounds of the old radiator pipes banging as they carried hot water from the basement to the rooms upstairs disturbed his sleep. Not that his sleep was deep anymore regardless. He seemed to only nap at night, not actually sleep, ever since August. He lay in bed, the comfor

Dalton and Bauer were going to start a bed-n-breakfast, until tragedy struck. With his husband dead, Dalton is having trouble coping, and having a haunted house isn't helping.

Bloom By Cole Matthews He swore on his mother’s grave, but then he swore on most everything. It all began with a daisy, plastic, and fastened with a pin to a shirt. The flower drew his eye from across the yard, hanging in a rack amidst other items. Rows of shirts, mostly white, but a few baby blue ones and even yellow, on hangers and had little bits of masking tape with various prices, most between twenty-five and fifty cents. “What the hell is that?” he asked fingering

Congrats and well earned! -
Jake's mother is a negative example, and for some people it can be influential. However, I wouldn't say any of them are 'bad'. Perhaps selfish, lazy, or even lacking good judgment, but Jake isn't exactly the poster child for good choices in life. He's a pretty good guy overall, and I hope he comes across as trying to fix things with his life. I appreciate the lovely comments! Thanks.
-
I love your interpretation of the pot!!! I agree Jake has made some very poor decisions in the past. Alcohol is definitely one of the problems, but as you say, his problem solving hasn't been very good. Sobriety is the name of this section, and it reflects the changes such a state of mind brings. Thanks for some awesome comments.
-
Jake is taking charge, and sometimes that's a bit scary or disconcerting. Thanks!
-
Addiction issues run quite deep usually. I think there is a nurture aspect which is influential. There is probably a genetic tendency as well. Teens react against their parents' rules. Young people experiment, even if it may be dangerous, hell sometimes that why they do it. I think Jake has tried to help his mother. He doesn't see it as enabling, at least, he didn't in the past. Things change though. Great comments and observations. Thanks!
-
I agree with you about the tendencies passed through our genes. I also think Jake's mother is already influenced him. He did try going to a meeting. Jake's life is full of changes now that he's decided to clean up his act. We will see more people coming up and their reactions to his changes matter. Thanks for such insightful comments. You make me dance on the head of a pin.

I think there is a tendency or possible issue of addiction, which may be inherited. However, as you have suggested, we can learn to respect it, or perhaps follow in the footsteps. It's an interesting question and it really affects those afflicted. It's also a theme in literature that interests me. Nature v. Nurture is a struggle that I believe speaks to the human experience. Thanks for the response and the probing inquiries. I will let the other comments stew for a while, letting the herbs and spices do their work.

Day 5 This blog is turning into a recording of my sobriety experiment, and nothing else. I think you’ve become my sounding board, my anchor to reality, my trail of breadcrumbs through the forest. I know nobody is reading this. The counter hasn’t moved since last night. So, I can be perfectly honest. Yet, I feel so numb now. Today was the worst day of my life. Without a doubt. I woke up and felt a little nauseated. I made coffee, drank some juice, and then it began. It started

story critique Improve & Encourage #5: W.A.R. Part 1 & 2
Cole Matthews commented on Renee Stevens's blog entry in Gay Authors Archive
One of the strengths of this site is the many perspectives of reviewers. We all need input as to how it affected us, as readers. I’m glad William liked it as is. I simply gave my opinion. The characters are so amazing, as I have indicated, that too much drama, detracts from the story. I am a person who wrote far too expressively at one time, and so I pass on my experience. I hope I didn’t offend and it helps your craft. That’s all I want to convey. Keep working, JKW, that’s why I wrote this. I wanted to help. i hope I did. -
Unrequited love is a fascinating idea to explore. We humans are especially victims of hoping, wishing, yearning for love we may never reach. Yet, it also gives us some practice for that which we may be able to grasp. We can then hold it gently, if we are wise, and nurture it.

God, I was seduced and tormented by the promise of songs, art, and the ideas of people loving one another in my youth. Then, I realized it wasn't so simple. As a gay man, I suffered a lack of experience in my youth. Thanks for your comments.

You are right,! Hahaha. It doesn't matter unless we are troubled. That's why we practice our art. It helps us cope and smile. It brings us joy, as you do, my dear friend. Cole.
