  1. Don't be scared. Jake never hurt anyone physically. He knows what he did. He regrets things, but it's not really his fault. He's a good guy. Thanks for the wonderful comments. We will see more tomorrow.
  2. Jake is having issues. He's not drunk, but he definitely put himself into a problematic situation. You are right about something, Jake isn't in a good place in the end. Your instincts are absolutely right. Thanks,
  3. Jake has it rough. You are right. We will see more tomorrow. I can't wait to see what you think. Thank you, Cole
  4. I love you guys!!!!
  5. Interesting. There isn't anyone really 'evil' in this story. But, I like where this is going.
  6. Gaslight is a wonderful movie and story. There may be elements within this tale reflecting those ideas. However, I'm not a fan of 'gaslighting' . Thanks for some awesome insights!
  7. Thanks Gary. I get from your comment, you understand things aren't good. Jake has moved in the right direction, but is it enough? Nats and Eddie are not exactly friends, but know each other. How could they not? And with that, I believe you are dissecting the situation. Jake's mom is a problem. We don't really know his dad at this point. Tomorrow you'll know more. I appreciate the wonderful analysis.
  8. I hope it doesn't remain confusing. There are issues going on. Tomorrow we'll see more going on. Jake is a troubled man. Troubled men have lives that aren't linear and this is definitely true for Jake. Thanks for the comment. I'll keep this in mind, because I want Jake's story to inform.
  9. There are issues with all Jake's loved ones. Jake is confused, but he wasn't drinking. He's confused. I think all people in Jake's position would be. Make sure you read the new prologue. Thanks for the lovely review! So much more to come. Cole
  10. Your instincts are quite good. Someone is doing something half-baked and rather nefarious. I appreciate the comment and hope you enjoy what comes next.
  11. No. Jake didn't really cause this. You are right about something happening. Tomorrow there is the last section of Sobriety. We are moving into a new part called Discovery. Thanks for the comment.

    Masked

Now, that is a proper horror story with your own Dahmer cooking up someone's gut on the stove, a head bobbing in the bubbling liquid. Delightful!!!!
  13. I'm going to respond to your comment early, to clarify. The prologue will be posted next week. It hasn't been published anywhere else. Second, I am not on any drugs, though I never minded taking a little Percocet when I had a broken bone. Finally, Twyla is a character in future chapters. She is important, actually, very much so. PS, I didn't remember I'd referenced 'So Weeps' in Door County Mystery. The ideas behind it are from many years ago. It's finally come to fruition. I'm very excited about what is developing. Thanks so much!!!
  14. Day 8 Things are getting strange. At work tonight, Nats was acting weird, one minute being her old self, the next giving me the cold, fucking ice-cold, shoulder. My mom called and told me to come pick up the last of my things from her apartment. She was very distant and her voice sounded a little hollow. Eddie was supposed to call me, but didn’t. My dad isn’t answering his phone, which is not like him. This morning when I woke up, I found an empty bucket in my room. I’d never
  15. Yes!!! You :see Jake's issue with Eddie. Perhaps he does know Eddie will call him on any nonsense he tries to pass off. Is Jake comparing he and Eddie to his mother and father? Does his parents relationship inform his own or do they color his perception? The dynamic between Eddie and Jake is interesting to me. Jake wants him, but he doesn't. We will see how Eddie feels in a little bit. Meanwhile, thank you so much of a wonderful interpretation of what I'm doing here.
  16. Jake definitely stepped in it with Eddie. He seemed to have perverse delight in screwing things up. Now, I like your question about the spiral. Was his spiral because of Eddie, his mother, his dipsomania taking hold, or was it something within Jake? Or was it even something else, because we are only reading his point of view here. Of course, I can assure you he's telling the truth, but is it complete or are there things he's mentioned that seem innocuous? We will see because there are only two more 'chapters' left in this part of the story. The next part will be from a different perspective. I mustn't say more though. Thanks for some very intriguing ideas. I think I'll build on your thoughts a little.
  17. Thanks so much! I'm glad Jake's internal struggle came through clearly. This is kind of the first time he's thinking about someone else. Eddie is the person he's considering and not how Eddie affects him. There is a new awareness in Jake and I think he's starting to wake up. There may still be pain, even with awareness. Let's see if he keeps his sobriety or if he slips from the pain. I really appreciate the interesting and insightful thoughts.
  18. He is getting his act together. Jake is a good guy that lost his way. You are right his bold introspection seemed to turn the corner. Thanks for the wonderful review.
  19. That's so true. Until we examine our issues and work through them, healing can't occur, not really. Jake's relieved he's not an addict and so maybe he now sees some hope. Certainly Eddie seems to have missed him. I'm glad you found it powerful. It was a hard entry to write and even harder to edit. I appreciate the kind words.
  20. I think it was, but by the same token, he seems open to Jake. Eddie and Jake are a love story that is not often told. Sometimes one is just too toxic, until he cleans up his act. I know couples where the relationship came back around after some healing occurred. Thanks for the insightful comment.
  21. I wanted to include you!!!! I used people from April Fool's!!

    Chapter 1

I like the idea of the hysteria of a season altering your perception. Devin wanted a woodsman, needed him, and in the end he created a scenario where this stranger becomes a supernatural creature. In a way, this story demonstrates the power of imagination in human beings and reflects what we do all the time. We write about imaginary people doing incredible things and making sense of our world. I loved it. Thanks!

    Chapter 1

Stories like these are important, because relationships aren't without mistakes. Cam and Desean separated for good reason. Terry came between them and we still don't know what he brought to the picture. We know there must be something, otherwise Cam wouldn't have felt the need for another, not if Cam and Desean were committed. Desean was betrayed, and so was Melissa. Yet, there are missing elements that would complete the picture. Obviously, the story brings up questions and thoughts, so it's a good story. However, I'd beg the writer to dig deeper. Great start obviously!!!

    Chapter 1

Interesting and the plot arc works quite well. Richard is probably bisexual and he desires both, but is settling for a relationship with a woman. Tommy is bisexual and exploring his same-sex side after his previous relationship died. I think it's an interesting comparison looking at the two of them. Anyway, lovely job!
