@Defiance19 Thanks, Def. We've seen Brett in protective mode before and I don't see that changing. He's still the wild, fun-loving, California surfer dude but he's taken his role as a father to heart. My dislike of the Catholic Church may be showing LOL I've served on board of directors with both Episcopal and Catholic priests and found the Catholic ones to be uptight even when preaching acceptance. Silas will be around for a while. I already wrote the scene where he and CJ meet in person! You'll have to wait for it, though. It's in the next book!

Thank you, kind sir.

Start reading you slacker. Winter's coming.

Glad you're here and continue to enjoy CJ's story. Nadine's meeting CJ and Owen for the first time. Thiago has told her about his friends but I think he didn't divulge the details of how his friend came to live in Washington. If she sticks aroun, she'll learn it eventually even though CJ hasn't trashed his mother and stepfather as much after their death.
-
Ritchie has four years of CJ in college and around his house. When the kid goes away to college himself he'll have sooo much experience he'll run circles around the other freshmen. Not sure CJ will do a full disclosure on those possible threats. But the dads aren't blind to what can happen and I think Brett will have something to say.
-
@JeffreyL I haven't had a Rolodex since I sold my accounting practice back in the late 90s! While a large portion of the supporting cast will continue to make appearances, I've been slowly steering the story towards the younger set with CJ and Owen taking center stage most of the time. You're right, we're watching the torch being handed to the next generation.

Funny how a throwaway phrase can be so well received. I think Brett learned his lesson way back when CJ first traveled to Chicago on his own. CJ will listen to his dads but bristle when he thinks his parents are being wrong. We'll find out what Brett end up saying/doing next cahpter. I know I drove my parents crazy whenever I flashed a similar attitude.
-
I was trying to show two things with those lines. One you've correctly identified. The other one was CJ encouraging a meeting with a priest even though he doesn't believe in religion himself. Acknowledging different attitudes and respecting them is part of becoming a real man and a leader. In my opinion, those who fail to listen to other views and accept differences are not meant to lead.

I tried to establish CJ's maturity early on but there's no way a teen, no matter how 'perfect' they might be, would not rebel at some point. He's put his foot down on this one and the dads are partially to blame. They've encouraged him to be independent. But Brett's sneaky. He proved it when he had Sean check on CJ in New York and his foresight helped save CJ from a possible rape. Let's see what he comes up with this time. We KNOW he'll have something else to say. You'll enjoy the next chapter, Spikey. No politics, a road trip, and a few new characters. One of them will be around on a permanent basis. I think you'll like Lola.

I honestly have no idea when Georgetown will start posting. @Mann Ramblings has been with me from the start, he's edited over half-a-million words so far and he deserves a break. I'm giving him the summer off. He does have a real life and other projects to deal with and I can't afford to pay his exorbitant fees year round. But trust me, the story's far from over. Maybe not another 500k words but there's plenty on the way.

Thank you for your addiction I may as well continue with the revelations about the future: Walls is not the end of the series. Georgetown, the next book will chronicle the next four years of CJ's life. It's already in process but there will be a break in posting after the current book is finished. I plan on having each section of the next book entirely written and edited before I begin posting.

LMAO! Considering I've tried to give CJ a filthy mouth I'm just waiting for him to scream asshole at some politician. You're right about him giving someone the finger while smiling. I wonder what someone like Paul Ryan would do if they got called out the way CJ did.
-
Last chapter and this one I considered transitional, setting up events which will affect the story in the future. The politicians will be around for a bit and then fade into the background after the election in November. I can't wait to write about CJ's first kegger! Gracias a usted!

I thought the Rolodex comment was a good way to end the chapter. Damn kids have no idea what we had to deal with before cell phones. We'll see what happens after his commitment to the campaign's over. CJ will be starting college in a few months and that may keep him away from politics for a while. The scene with Paul Ryan was inspired by an actual Millenial Town Hall he participated in at Georgetown. (available on YouTube if anyone cares to watch the real event.) Of course, the conversation with CJ is entirely fictional but I wanted to show our kid can interact with anyone no matter what their political orientation. The idealist vs ideologue statement encapsulates his current outlook on politics.

Hey! This is a coming-of-age story and CJ's the protagonist, of course we're going to follow him all the way. I've tried to show growth in the character and it's fun to write him standing on his own so much. He was always assertive but he used to lean on his dads constantly. Hopefully we can now see he'll do fine on his own even when he disagrees with his parents. I don't think his relationship with his fathers will sour, just natural evolution.
-
Please step away from the edge, sir...

@Bucket1 I remember having a Rolodex on my desk for years. I wonder what Ritchie would say if he saw one sitting next to a rotary dial phone. CJ doesn't share all the details about the threats with his dads and then he tells them in no uncertain terms he doesn't care what they think, he's going to Nashville to hang out with a bunch of gay ruggers. Damn teenagers are all the same. Even though it was a short scene, I truly enjoyed writing it, showing CJ becoming more assertive all the time. Funny you mention phone videos ending up online. CJ has some comments about the same subject in the near future.
-
@gazza456 CJ will be recognized and his name will be called out again. Trust me on that one. Now, about that addiction of yours... May as well start the process now so you can get used to the withdrawal symptoms: There's only two more chapters remaining in this book; it'll all be over when the Squad graduates from Walls.

“You mean he’s okay being called Paddy now? Didn’t he throw a fit last time Brad used the nickname?” Thiago stared at CJ with wide open eyes. “Mate, you have no idea how much things have changed in little over a week.” Owen spoke up while CJ took a bite out of his burger. “Can you imagine the hell that kid’s been living in? He grows up in a homophobic environment in Boston and then he’s surrounded by gay men when he moves to Washington. Talk about whiplash. Top that off with his religious b

@Reader1810 Yep. Just took a look and that line was in the original draft. You need to spend time with me and @Mann Ramblings. We'll corrupt you.
-
@Reader1810 LOL You mean I shouldn't remind people you've read the chapter several times and the first one was months ago? Sometimes the most innocent statements can reveal a lot about the person. As I mentioned in my reply to Parker's comment, CJ's not the perfect goody-goody kid some people may think he is. He'll drink alcohol and smoke pot but neither in excess. Moderation seems to be the path he follows. Except for his potty mouth. No matter what I do the kid will cuss up a storm at the slightlest instigation.
-
Thank you, Peter. You and I are very close in age so I can identify with your feelings. And we're getting there. I see it all the time in younger people and how they react to friends or strangers being gay. It may not be in my lifetime but one day most people won't give a rat's ass about anybody's sexual orientation.
-
With so many characters, juggling their appearances is tricky. I try to use the best ones for whatever I'm trying to convey in the chapter so not all of them will be around all the time. Ritchie will return. Aster all, he lives in the house! LOL
-
The relationships continue to evolve and the old household of three is now four officially and five when you add in Owen. It it was the right time for Patrick and of course he had to start with CJ. Maybe a little idol worship there? Thought about you today when I was reading over an upcoming chapter where Chipper's mother sends CJ a case of her best Malbec as a gift. Forget Sean, Ozzie and Chipper are better vino connections!
-
I truly enjoy your insights, Parker. CJ's smart, but not a genius. He's athletic but not a jock. He sometimes acts as serious as Cesar but most of the time as much a goof off as Brett. He has the worst case of potty mouth out of the entire Squad. And yet, his honesty and loyalty make him the best person to have around. He honestly cares for his friends and will never make fun of their issues. Although in this case the little devil came out at the end when he asked Patrick if he could now use the old nickname. Add looks and wealth and the guy's quite the catch. Owen better not screw it up!
