“Hey, sorry, I should have left a note to say where I am going, my name is Jacob Blackwood by the way,” I said to him softly, and his eyes softened a little and there was a slight of a small smile, “Aaron Tomlinson,” he replied, as his eyes were now fixed on what I was carrying. “This is for you, I have already eaten, it is chicken soup, steak and chips and salad,” I replied, as I placed them on the table, before retrieving some cutlery for him and he began to drink the soup and eat chips be

I ended up having three surgeries over a five-day period, with a day of rest between each surgery, and Uncle Nat was at my bedside, every time I woke up from each surgery, and we chatted about a how things are going with his new position at the base in Adelaide. Four days after my last surgery, I received a surprise visit, from Brigadier Purnell. “Hello young Jacob, I am sorry to see that you injured yourself during training, get your Uncle to make out a compensation claim and I will make su

“Do you know what all of that means Cadet Lumbasi, or maybe Cadet Blackwood would like to remind you,” the CO said and looking at me he nodded his head. “Cadet Lumbasi, it means that you did not heed my warning, when I twice told you to mind what you say as it may affect your life as well as my own. You did not see my ID badge and you did not have this conversation with me or the CO, do you understand me Cadet?” I said to Lumbasi. “Yes Corporal, I understand,” Lumbasi replied, and with that

“Wow, really, just 2.5 kilometres from Taylor Island? Who owns it?” I said when Google maps zoomed in on the island, “Well, it is currently leased by our friend Patrick Carter, who is looking at the possibility of buying the island off the state government, to make it into a private reserve like he is doing to Taylor Island. Grindal Island is 220 acres in area, so a bit under half the size of Taylor Island, it has no buildings on it, and like Taylor, it has a good amount of vegetation on it,

Now that we had the island marked into zones, we headed back to the cottage to collect the cameras, before heading to the top off the island, to start setting them up. We managed to get all the cameras set up before we had to get ready for dinner, and we arrived at Patrick’s home with five minutes to spare. When the door, we were caught a bit by surprised when a woman answered the door. “Come in lads, I am in the kitchen, that is my younger sister Anita, and she has brought the rest of the f

It turned out that I have outgrown my uniform, so I had to wear my best suit, which was just a good as my Army Dress Uniform. “Hey where are you off to in such a hurry?” Chris asked when he stepped out of the pantry as I came down the stairs, and dress to kill too, may I add,” Will said from the meals area, where he was eating breakfast and reading the paper. “Sorry guys, all I know is that it’s to do with Army Business and uncle Nat wants me along for consulting purposes,” I replied, “Right

I sat down with my friends to relax and enjoy the rest of the trip, as we passed the southern tip of Boston Island, and continued towards Cape Donington. When the catamaran arrived at the jetty, all we could see is a large boat shed, and a boat ramp, with a dirt track leading up onto the island. Lance went ahead to the shed, and soon came out with a buggy with six seats, and he stopped near us at the start of the jetty, where we climbed onboard and we were soon climbing up the track, followi

Nope just three countries to the south, but I did miss another country to the west, that being Senegal. Burkina Faso, Guinea and Cote’ d’Ivoire are the three to the south.

We often had lengthy discussions about different science issues, which I found quite rewarding, as we tended to learn something out of the discussions, and we often helped each other out with any difficulties we had with our studies. For their first year of university studies, and my second year, we studied hard and to relax we played tennis and swam laps of the pool, even during the colder months, as it helped us to cope with the stresses of university studies. To celebrate the end of the f

Just to correct a few errors, from some one who has lived in Perth most of my life, Perth International Airport is 10 kilometres East of the city, NOT southwest. Jandakot Airfield is 37 kilometres north north east of Rockingham.

After completing my trek up to Kilimanjaro for the first time since my Tasmanian incident, I decided that although I loved being in Tanzania, that I needed to look into the future, and to do that I needed to attend University, so I decided to head back to Australia and my home state of South Australia. I chose to do a double degree, the first a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Conservation Biology and the second is a Bachelor of Science in Biodiversity and Conservation, in hope that I can do

I also received an email from Robert, confirming that the two academics have accepted the offer to travel to Tasmania and spend a week on the luxury yacht, and present two lectures each during that time, so I was happy that it was coming together well. I spoke to the headmaster of all six schools again twice more during the term, to finalise arrangements, and to get an idea on how the top students would be selected for this trip. Brad and Craig managed to complete the four courses that they
