  1. This is a poem for every person. Loss is a part of being alive, but knowing that seldom helps at the time.
  2. Sharing these things can be extremely upsetting. Along with the fear of those times, there was real shame I had to deal with. No one wants to be ashamed of their father. I certainly didn't, and I tried my best to 'deserve' his love. As kids, we don't recognize a lost cause, but I learn fast... just not fast enough. Thank you, my friend.
  3. Thanks, Terry. I don't have high hopes for the world, but I do cling to faith in the human spirit.
  4. Lol. That would work, I guess. Nightmares peppered my nights as a child, with good reason. It is irksome when they show up as an adult, and that remembered fear resurfaces. Yeah, writing this poem was kind of fun, and I guess I'm thankful they are now just dreams and not based on any reality.
  5. Never too late for hot chocolate. I drink 1/2 teaspoon of instant decaf coffee with a teaspoonful of Ovaltine, and add skim milk. It is delicious, no caffeine, and only about thirty calories.
  6. Good day, all! Just had a 3K walk in drizzle. It was invigorating.

    Chapter 5 DNA

Thanks. I will always appreciate you giving it a second chance. It was a hard story to write, but I wouldn't change a single word about it.
  8. For me the woods are a respite for many things. They renew my spirit too, Terry. Glad you felt this one. We all should be as fortunate as me to have such a haven close to my back door. Cheers!
  9. Thank you, Terry. I'm in that process again, but my strength serves me well. This is a poem I am proud of. It was a declaration that let me gain good ground.
  10. These are meant to make us squirm. I did not enjoy these, but poetry brings out an honesty I sometimes regret. Not in this case though. Monsters are real, and trust is a fool's game at times. I'm glad I write these, but coming back to them is disturbing... yet necessary.
  11. I keep hoping so, Terry, but the hate and brazen actions against women, gays, trans, and the law are shocking to me. Some days I have to avoid all social media and news. Something big is happening, and I am scared. Not for me so much as for the younger marginalized ones. I hope our youth can stop the tidal wave of hate and discrimination sweeping across the world, because it seems we are going backward at an alarming pace. Peace, my friend.
  12. Lol. PPD. Yeah, it's a thing. In this case though, it was definitely personal, but just an accepting lament. Falkor was my buddy who followed me everywhere when I was outside. He was neutered, but he ruled all the other barn cats, and I miss him terribly. He had so much personality, and I could tell he loved me. Thanks for reading about him. This poem helps keep him alive for me.

    Chapter 5 DNA

Thank you, Terry. Depression is truly insidious, and once you are out of it, you understand it may only be temporary, but understanding that helps you gird yourself against further assault. My familiarity with it is the main reason I wrote the story "Endings", and also why that story is such an important one to me. Appreciate your kindness.
  14. I've officially entered the 2023 Poetry Anthology. It was a struggle, but I really wanted to support it, and my perseverance paid off, with more than a week to spare. Woot!
  15. Damn, I'll have to get out my rain dance costume... it's really only a breechclout and rattles, and it's chilly here, but I'll do my best.
  16. Thank you. Again, the struggle never completely recedes, but I can only do my best. It's all any of us can do.
  17. It ebbs and flows, but I hope it is always with me too, buddy. I believe there is something inside us writers that needs to come out, whether good or bad, in prose or poetry. I used to create with oil, acrylic, watercolors, pastels, pencils, and pen and ink... even collage and clay, but now I paint with words, and I trust that is what I was meant to do all along. Your kind words lift me up, Terry. Sincerely... Gary....
  18. Happy Wednesday/Thursday, all! A little dreary here... feels like rain.
  19. Thanks, Terry. This poem is a journey in itself, about a particularly difficult journey. The worst kinds of things are never really over, but this was where I began to stand tall in my own head again.
  20. Hurt often translates to anger, and I was feeling all kinds of hurt at the time. No, you don't sound naive. We do what we have to to keep on an even keel. We learn how to cope early on, but life still manages to catch us off guard, often in the worst ways. I rely on beauty too. Thanks, my friend.
  21. These poems are an extension of Chapter one's, and again uncomfortable for me because it brings back angst. I've said it many times, but poetry is a release I am blessed to have found. New loops are good. Thanks, Terry.

I must admit, this is an uncomfortable poem for me. It takes me back to a time I struggled to understand. It's about friendships, really, or what you thought were friendships. I think it is probably a poem many can feel and relate to. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Terry.
