I've now get to tell you how clever and delightful I found the last three chapter, especially this one. There are more that a few reasons, so I'll just list them.
1. Everyone expected the prophecy meant that since either Vincent or Stefan had to die, it would come at the hand of the other. You instead wrote an unexpected twist that pranked us, and I personally found this a wonderful surprise ending. I am sure Terik inspired you!
2. Whether the Zombies in the Shadows thing was a real suggestion or not, I am sure readers wanted Vincent to continue the fight against evil with his superpowers and are now disappointed. Personally I like the idea of Zombies, but think the new improved (mortal male) god of mischief would make a great comedy novel. Especially if Erik retains his former sexual preference in a male body.
3. Vin and Mason now have time to focus on each other and the Owensville pack with the universe of friends.
4. Gods making and bending their own rules is an ancient idea and makes great sense and fit. Ever heard of miracles?
5. Personal sacrifice to defeat evil is a logical, inevitable event in human history. Something else would feel disconnected to reality and make the ending contrived.
6. I celebrate the ending, because all the wonderful characters you created are now free to become MCs in their own novels in this universe. You now have a wealth of possibilities for huge universe of stories with abundant material, and chances for many guest appearances.
This chapter is perfect, and the initial comments were quick reactions to the unexpected surprise.
Just one slight observation. One nice comment mentioned this was one chapter and there are 35 chapters with great comments. This is true, but the entire story is in three novels which so far consists of 98 chapters. So, in my opinion 98 great chapters, since I and other commenters think this is also a great chapter.
