You know me... I like 'intense' starts to my stories, hoping to suck the reader in! You'll learn more about Kye's brother soon and why he's agreed to a service contract with Barrett soon. But the short of it is, he didn't know what Barrett was like before he agreed to it.

I can understand that; my stories aren't for everyone. This is probably the most graphic chapter, as it sets the tone for Barrett's and Kye's relationship in a very 'intense' way. I hope you'll find it easier to read as it goes along.

I know . This is probably the most graphic chapter (kinda like Beneath the Current where the Prologue was pretty intense). A lot of this story deals with Kye's mental state. Thanks for trying it out, I know some of my stories are tough to read.

This is the toughest chapter, but it's to set the scene of what Barrett is capable of and how he views Kye as well as Kye's state of mind.

That's what I'm hoping. It helped with Lie of the Serpent to start posting and see what readers think! And GA is the only one! Thank you. I'm behind on Cards on the Table too, so I need to catch up. Sometimes I find it easier to wait for a few chapters to post before reading. I probably didn't need that break in narration now that you mention it... it was meant to be Kye coming back to the present. The italics are flashbacks, and Kye was 'escaping' briefly by remembering his brother's words. This is my first full length story written totally in the first person POV. It's been a little more challenging since I'm used to showing what more characters are feeling/thinking. But I think sticking with one POV with this one will make it work better. I hope you find it worth sticking with, but I understand that my stories aren't for everyone.

Hey All, I decided to start posting my newest story. Parker and Caz have been helping me with it for a month or more now, and I so greatly appreciate their help and input. I'm actually a bit stuck on this story--at ch. 14--so I thought posting might get me motivated to write instead of reading all the time. I really feel I need to get it out of my head, but I just keep putting it off. I'm hoping it was maybe just the busy-ness of the holidays and now that they are over I can get back into a routine again.
