    We see the stark contrast between the results of Darien's pragmatic leadership and the particular, rotting horror of Raymond. Darien is poised at the right place and time to be the fulcrum. The time is nearing for Wylan to pull Darien back from the abyss only he can see.

    Darien learned the lessons of Antioch well and has shielded his people from the worst rigors and horrors of the Judean winter campaign. He now juggles Crusader politics to carve out a kingdom of their own. What Wylan has seen is a future prophecy of the folly of trying to keep a kingdom which will end in dust and ash. Their future is back in Europe. The trick is timing their path and departure.
