The Plateau Chapter 2 Is Up!!!
MrM replied to Comicality's topic in Comicality's Shack Clubhouse's Cafe
In fantasy, I have found, you won’t be able to help but possibly rephrase someone else’s ideas since fantasy is always built on mythical archetypes we all share. Each culture on earth has a belief system that revolves around the things that dreams are made of. Fantasies are merely dreams that we write down and flesh out for others to share. Each person’s view of that reality is their own and so, as long as it isn’t completely a copy of someone else’s work, then the idea will be original. I will have to get back to my fantasy as soon as I finish up with Souvenir. It is a trilogy which seems to be a great way to write three acts of the same story. Tolkien wasn’t the one that started this he merely borrowed, as an author, what Shakespeare perfected from Greek formats for plays based in fantasy and myth. My fantasy is called The Thinning Veil if you’d like to see how I approached the genre. It is actually my first story and thus one of my dearest: https://gayauthors.org/stories/browse/series/the-thinning-veil/ -

Ok, does anyone else fall in love with cartoon characters or have I gone without for so long that I’m now actually starting to lose my grip on reality? See . . . I have a thing for Chat Noir . . . `

A month passed by and, frankly, it went by as something of a blur. I had about eight projects I had to turn in simultaneously to fill out my second quarterly for the year. Each quarter the Institute expects us to complete a representation of the concepts we picked up in class and during practice. I don't think I slept for two whole weeks! I seemed to have lived in the fucking darkroom through most of that! Thankfully, due to my fair skin, I'm not as big a sunshine fan as some other people se

Just for reference, after binge watching Stranger Things 3 over the weekend, I had a nostalgic meltdown and found some old photos of me from the time I was explaining above. This was me in the 80s right at the exact time Stranger Things was set. We really did look like that. They did a fabulous job on the ‘retroness’ of that show. It totally Hot Tub Time Machined me back to that time. I think that’s why I was able to remember what I wrote above so well. What’s more, this picture represents something: a near miss that could have been a true life Comsiefied romance in High School story. I think the boy in the picture liked me and I don’t even remember his name. Sometimes, you miss the love of your life by less than inch.

When I was a teenager I was ‘The Prettiest Boy In School.’ Not the big strong jock with the muscles. Not the ‘Bad boy’ with the attitude and the leather. I was ‘Pretty.’ Being pretty and being a boy was not a good combo, especially in the time when I grew up which was the Stranger Things era EXACTLY. That show casts fairly perfectly what life was like as a teen in the 80s. The Pretty Boys were not nerds, but they were usually something else bad if not worse. Usually a ‘Fag.’ It was ok, if you were a Fag, to mess with you in the boys locker room according to some of the assholes in there. The fact that I was Gay only made this situation worse because I had to convince people I wasn’t Gay when I was being called Gay all the time and was the object of possible sexual harrassment by the other boys in the school that thought that was a ‘joke’ to do things like that. The girls would pay attention, but then look away and think you were ‘stuck-up’ because they didn’t want to risk being rejected (which, then, I probably would not have done, but later would have). I was avoided and derided a lot to the point where I thought I was unattractive and it made my personality sour which then made me completely unapproachable. If a boy had been seriously interested in me and had a mind to seduce me away from the strictures of my family and religious beliefs of the time then my sullen attitude probably would have killed their courage before they even attempted to get close. When I went out to places alone I’d get ‘kissed’ at by guys and solicited for sex which they thought was funny, basically emasculating me in public. In the Gay parts of town, if I’d made the mistake of ending up there, I’d have men pull up and make offers which made me, at the time, feel very weird and afraid. I was 15-16 at the time, mind you. Once, I had a full on Goth guy in makeup basically looking like Lestat follow me around a Nordstrom . I was sure he’d corner me and ‘do’ me if I didn’t lose him. That was scary and yet, at the same time, I . . . Wanted it too! He was truly beautiful! As I grew older I put on some weight and my features ‘roughened up’ a bit which got me out of being Pretty, but I had lost all my confidence so I didn’t stand out at all anymore. I became invisible, which was weird, because, as bad as the attention was when I was a teen, it was at least some attention. I’m middle-aged now and when I look back at old pictures of myself I can ‘see’ it, now. But when I was younger, I was very confused by the mixed signals and attention and totally misinterpreted a lot of it. I didn’t feel attractive at all. I felt like an alien. Maybe some would think this is ‘First World Problems’ territory, but for the Prettiest Boy In School that didn’t mean you were Big Man On Campus with all the girls falling at your feet. You were just weird! If only I had found my ‘Billy’ in those days maybe my ‘Brandon’ years would have been more beautiful. So my experience of being Pretty didn’t award me special treatment at unless you call catcalls and near molestation ‘special treatment.’ Today, I tend to treat the ‘Pretty’ ones with a bit of wisdom. Never let it go to your head if you do believe in your own gorgeousness and if you don’t believe in it, let ME believe in it for you, because God knows that you are a world of beauty if you only let it shine!

Souvenir: A Brandon Smiling Prequel

Goodbye Is Forever Souvenir, Ch. 9: https://gayauthors.org/story/mrm/souvenir/9 -
When the year 1914 commenced, few were cognisant of the tectonic foreshocks that were warning of a great calamity readying itself to fall upon the unsuspecting peoples of Europe. Truth be told, ours was a blissful ignorance of the kindling we sat upon waiting for the match to strike. In fact, by the slow, insidious movements of history, we were tied to a stake above the preparations for an auto-da-fé. By the fires of war the debt of our sins and those of our fathers, grandfathers, and great-

See? I knew someone would understand! There are moments in my Comsie spin-off Brandon Smiling where Brandon starts to rant. That's TOTALLY me! Basically, I think my friends just hear "RANT, RANT, RANTRANT, RANTRANTRANT, RANT RANT!"

I've grown old enough to understand that I don't want to be an adult so I refuse. As for my main foible, when I get on my soapbox and start to pontificate at my friends I go full orator mode and start projecting my voice. Generally, its something the others want to keep discrete and I have to be reminded to quiet down or I scare them. The problem is that I used to be timid and afraid all the time because I hated myself for being gay so I didn't talk or say too much. Once I was freed of that I became uncontainable which lends me to being my true self which is a combative loudmouth with delusions warriorhood. There are times when it's helpful to have a filter unless you're armed to the teeth.

Of such, lifetime Souvenirs are made! How lovely that we live in a society free enough that you were able to share in that and bask in the warmth of that purist and most innocent love. It reminds me of a scene I just wrote in my story Snowflake: “Yes. This was the place. He (Tristan) stood right over there with nothing on but his gorgeous smile.” Snowflake smiled lovingly at what must have been a precious memory. I hope he smiles like that when he talks to other people about me! “More importantly, this is where the tables were turned. Quite purposefully, I came out here on the following day, stripped, and prepared to swim. It was around the same time as I had seen Tristan the day before and I was sure that he would be back. I wanted to surprise him! I just hoped that he had more courage than I had.” Snowflake walked down by the lake’s edge and scanned it in a way that made me think he might be looking for Tristan to be there again. I swore that if he did show up I’d throw Tristan into the frozen lake and steal my Snuffy away pronto! “I was not disappointed. As I waded into the water I heard the familiar voice. ‘Hello?’ was all he said until I turned around. When I did Tristan’s cute face got this big ‘O’ in it and he looked so surprised! It was just like I hoped it would be. He recognised me immediately and actually ran to me, tackled me, and pushed us both into the chilly water! Neither of us had clothes on, but at that age it didn’t matter.” Snowflake laughed at the memory. “For the rest of the afternoon until early evening we played and played and played! With both of us healthy we had the chance to enjoy each other’s company much better and it secured a friendship that promised to be a life-long one.” Snowflake smiled, but then I saw a tear form in his eye and watched it stream down his cheek. “From that point forward we were virtually inseparable. My family and his thought that they had gained new sons in the exchange. I was as much at his home as I was at mine and he was at mine as much as he was at his.” Snowflake recounted with a touch of brightness in his voice despite the tears. “We both grew-up and entered into our adolescence together. It was during this time, in our thirteenth summer, that we understood that what we had was more than just friendship. The curiosity and the feelings had been building between us for about two years. Our swims together became a bit more awkward and we compared our bodies as they developed in new and strange ways. We introduced each other to masturbation, but figured it was crossing a line we didn’t understand if we did anything mutually. But the feelings grew.” A Memory Of Tristan from Snowflake: A Love Story

Little gay kissey-smooches and hand holding are lovely to see and I see it a lot where I live. I often walk with my two friends who are engaged and they like to hold hands as they walk. When they are in less than accepting areas and do this unconsciously, I usually stare down the idiots who are giving them the stink-eye. Those people usually look away and go back to whatever they were doing after I give them my Ghost Rider Penance Stare long enough. I can be fairly intimidating when I want to be. So, there you can see my support for such displays. I will fight for them! That said, I think it’s in bad taste to basically dry hump each another in full view of the public. Much like I don’t want to see it in straight couples, neither do I want to see such displays in public from gay couples. It is just in bad taste and exhibitionist, in my opinion. It is also meant to provoke which I think is foolish for anyone to do straight or gay. It does cause jealousy in people and reminds them of their loneliness. That would be my only reason for counseling against such overt sexual displays in public. It’s a general thing, not a gender normative thing. I am learning to be more open publicly when I meet someone. It is hard for me to do because I’m such an Ice Queen and I lived so many years in a closet. I still am fighting a lot of my ‘Brandon’ hang-ups and hope for a day when the love I feel for someone can overcome the fear put into me so many years ago.
