  1. So how about this? Can we start a list of stories on GA that we wish we could see finished? Stories that have gone at least a year without a post would count, if you ask me...

    Noticed

More chapters in process. Stefan is in trouble, and we only get to see how he sees his world. And what we see through his eyes isn't pretty. Thank you for reading this; it takes me forever to write anything.

    Normal and Weird

(Second Week of May) May 10 It took a few days, but I figured how to keep Ackerman from noticing me. I went to the library during lunch period and went to my locker between different periods. I skipped Gym class, and I guess I’ll hustle through the locker room early next time. There’s enough to do each day without worrying about the Ackermans of this world. Here’s Dad’s chore for today: “Clean basement walls. Clean basement floor – not just sweep – mop, rinse, mop again. Don’t forget to mo

    Chapter 9

This is a great chapter. It gives laymen (like me, for example) much better insight into the lives and workings of police at their jobs. And it doesn't look very pretty after the revelations about trafficking in minors, does it?

    Always

If that's not a nightmare, then it's evermore frightening than I thought. You succeeded in getting my heart to race, and my empathy to move. How to not think of a thing you know is there? Drew is right, sometimes a hug not only distracts, it protects, too. Here, take one, if you need it. (*hug*). I did.

    True Love

Tim, this is fantastic. You capture the idea quickly, economically, fluidly. As with your previous poems, you have me thinking of the music that might go alongside it, that permeates my brain as I read it. Thinking Erik Satie's haunting melodies here. Am not worthy!

    A Journal

Stefan is in a terrible place. It is very painful to read, and it hurt to write it, too. His story is like so many. It is hard not to want to intervene.

Thank you for all your help. And there were a couple of final tweaks...
  9. And One of MikiesBoy's poems made me think of Brahms' Third Symphony, second movement today...

Tim: thank you for reading, and for letting me know what you think. Nobody deserves what Stefan gets. No one should be abused, ever. But it happens, and it's a tragedy that never seems to make the headlines until it's too late.
  11. Perfect. A beautiful sunset day of a story. Congrats on an awesome setting-piece!

    Prompt 448

Okay, this is cool. Tres cool. Mycket, mycket cool. Really like how he comes to know how he really feels about Levi. And of course, doesn't this lead to some interesting physical/metaphysical questions about feeding? You can go hunting plot bunnies any day.

Thanks for the review! As for Stefan, he seems to have been born under a wickedly nasty star. He could have had a doctorate in sad-face by the time he turned sixteen.

    A Journal

Tak so mycke! Stefan has to endure, because his world is really awful. And how many other kids live a reality like this every day? Too many.

    Chapter 23

Oh yes, and oh, yes. They have turned and turned and come round right. Like the way Wyatt and Eddie gang up on Bryan. They'll be wonderful and happy together. Many thanks for this story...

    Noticed

May 2 Nope. Nobody noticed I was missing. I try hard to be invisible, and it works most of the time. It’s never a good thing to let other people know you’re there. If other kids in school see me, it’s because they want to make fun of the way I look or the way I’m dressed or something. If Dad takes notice of me, he’s either going to yell at me, or I’m going to get hit. I am so glad for this chance to write stuff down. When I don’t understand things, I don’t really have anyone I trust to ask
  17. David certainly sounds wise beyond his years as the chapter opens. I'm scared for Twoey, and whether he's headed for an emotional crash. Of course, maybe it's all cool for him, and he doesn't feel any of that. Of maybe his protest that he's 'only 15' is a way of deferring any serious thought about his own heart or mind until later, or just denying that he needs to think at all...unless it blows up in his face before he's had time for reflection.

Thanks very much for reading and telling me what you think. Stefan has had a terrible life, and it was hard not to give him the hug you mentioned while writing this. There is more to come, of course.

In the bedroom, on the far shelf, rests a set of old-style composition notebooks. A couple of them have yellow sticky-notes poking out at odd places. The story told in their pages isn’t just mine or yours. It’s ours. For the most part, though, you did the writing. These yellow notes are just the few places where you needed to know that something else was happening, things you didn't know about then, but I did – things had gone unsaid. These old journals don’t get read so much anymore. Time move

    A to Z

He lived alone with a father who beat the hell out of him. His mom abandoned him years ago. There was a roof over his head, and food, when his dad let him eat. One day, all that changed: he ran in fear for his life with nothing but the clothes on his back. And his journal.
  21. How terrible it must be to live in such a relationship. The guilt and pain can only be imagined for those who do not live them. My heart goes out to you. There are parents who legitimately want more contact with children currently exploring various stages of independence. But it would be foolish to assert that toxic relationships don't exist, or that there is no relationship that cannot be declared broken. Mental illness can dissolve such bonds, so can wilful cussedness on steroids. Nobody deserves to be abused.

    Chapter 22

This chapter packs a hopeful punch into every paragraph. So very, very good to watch all the stars realign themselves properly. Will be listening for bells - wedding bells - soon.
  23. Okay, you have officially hooked me on your melancholy verses. You make me want to drown in desperately beautiful classical music. This is as beautiful as anything Schubert, Mendelssohn or Rachmaninoff ever wrote.
  24. Really got lost in Rashid's problems first and foremost. Then snapping back to CJ clashing with his dads rattled me. Cesar is absolutely right - they will have to talk it out; if CJ is as mature as he seems, maybe he'll see why Brett lost it. Maybe Brett will see that while his own anger is honest, it violates the trust between the three of them. Or maybe CJ is just going to shut them out and go his own way. Incidentally, Cesar seems to realize the problem is all of theirs to share, so maybe he'll do the necessary triangulation to keep their relationships intact?

    Aquinas Leaps

Thanks for reading about Fletcher and, well, let's call him Thomas. It was not at all hard to bring them to life. It must have been a great day for writing. Perhaps inspiration will strike and they'll give me more to write about their lives. I do have a very different serial in mind...in process...when you get to read it, you can judge if it's any good. Again, thank you!
