It’s late and i’m sitting here
Sleep just won’t come
You’re on my mind
In a few short hours
I’ll see you
Maybe for the last time
Thoughts of life
and death
Drift through my head
We were dealt different cards
You and me
But you took me in
Loved me like i love
Your son
i’m grateful for these gifts
Things are just as they were
Ceaselessly
The world turns

Nice autobiographical piece. Ethan was lucky to have you as his driver that night. I take Uber quite often. I've met some super people that way. Nice job, Jeff!
Writing for me, is how i express my creative side. It's my art. Maybe it does help me explore, but I'm not sure it does for me what it does for you @Comicality, but that's okay. We are all different and have different stories to share.
Poetry helps me explore and write the world, my world. i like telling stories and hope they entertain and sometimes speak to others.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and ideas.
i can understand that .. my past is mostly in a box in my head, but it never completely stays there.. likely it never will. We just have to learn to stuff it back in and keep going forward.
Thanks for posting what you did .. it came at a time when I've not written for over a year ... but i think i can again.
It's hard to see ourselves and it can take a very long time to approach that mirror. Don't waste too much time looking backwards. Take what's worth taking and then run the other way.
Just be happy that you are here now.
i liked this. Bringing kids into a story is interesting. It forces your characters to change and the new dynamic is fun to write.
The diary being left out is borne of desperation and hope. It turned out to be the right choice. i think it would be something i'd do, well if truth be told, i have though not with a diary.
There's no reason for me to tell you what it was i left.
Another excellent chapter in our heroes' lives. Thanks, Wayne.
