    Sweet Summer

Definitely evokes summer, in all it's mystery and magic!

    Chapter 12

Hi, Gary! As always, it's nice for you to come and visit. Most young people haven't learned how to doubt like us oldheads. The certainty that some things are impossible is still in their future. I think we need to remember that it was the young men and women of our race that pulled us up from the life of primitives, and made life comfortable enough - and safe enough - for others to age, grow wise, and learn. The grand horizons we all enjoy today were first established by people too young to ever doubt that we could get there, if we only tried hard enough.

Great to see you back! Thanks for the kind words, Gary.

    Chapter 14

If my head explodes from all this nice commenting, it will be your fault! Thanks, Gary.

    Chapter 15

Thank you! I'm pleased that you came back to finish the tale!

    Chapter 16

I am very pleased to hear that from you, Gary. Thank you so much for the kind words!

    Chapter 3

I enjoy these school stories, but I always have to guess at what some of the Britishisms mean, like 'council estates' and 'Eleven-plus'. School life is just part of the differences in lifestyles between here and there, but I always enjoy all the different take on life. And your characters are fun and charming, which doesn't hurt things at all!

    Distant Truths

Very interesting experiment. Thanks for sharing the results!
  9. Man! I hope this works out! Hurtful words, once said, can be hard to reclaim. But Gary seems to be a good guy, and I'm hoping all he really cares about is Sean. Parents absorb a lot of damage from kids, and take it in stride. It goes with the territory. Great chapter! Can't wait for more.

    Chapter 5

Oh. I guess that's okay, then.

    Chapter 4

Mission: Impossible, was fun, but it really was ridiculous in some cases. Especially the ease with which one of the cast put on a rubber mask and looked just like the bad guy, or whoever. As a kid, I used to say, "Yeah, right. That's gonna happen, sure!" My dad liked the show, but I guess he had sixties sensibilities, where viewers didn't seem to get that some things were just ridiculous. MacGuyver had his own slightly hard-to-believe moments. I mean, most of his gizmos were fairly plausible, or even 'wow!' moments of ingenuity; but there was also the impression that the man could fashion a nuclear attack sub out of a diaper, three tin cans, and an old box of pretzels. The show was fun, but sometimes you had to say, "I don't think so!"

Oops. You won't see the connection if I don't quote you. I repeat: Oh. Why did that paragraph catch your attention?

    Chapter 6

    Yep. Than you for commenting!

    Chapter 7

Thanks for saying! I grew up with a moderate, fair dad myself, and so tend to give that model some air time, as a lot of other writers have covered the fire-breathers already.

    Chapter 3

A pain? Moi? It's not like the whole story is not posted already. It's not my fault you cannot just drop everything you're doing in your busy life and read the whole thing now!

    Chapter 4

I like MacGuyver! But I also kind of like Mission: Impossible, though I've only seen reruns of the the old show on cable. Now, The Man From UNCLE...another old cable show...never quite got into this one. Maybe I didn't watch enough?

I thought of the first part as very sweet, until the sudden shock. 'Bittersweet' is a better word, I think. Your stories are never bleak!

    Chapter 4

Hmm. You're the second guy to say that. So, you're saying I write like a sixties TV show...?

    Chapter 7

Whoa! Look at the one-liners, Maw! Thanks!

    Chapter 2

I hope you live up to our expectations, too! Love the humor, and the guys. Must have been interesting times.

Wonderful follow up to the first part of this story. Hope and renewal are always something we need to see after sadness and loss. Most of us want to see a happy ending, or at least one that is less difficult to bear. Good job!
