    I'm Just a Kid

Or maybe deep down he knew Billy wasn't ready yet?

It sucks when your own body turns against you.

    Dustin's World

Awww, Skinnydragon... Saw this and it made me sad remembering your kind soul. I miss you, dude!
  6. Characters are always the key! You may be right about Dustin. Yes, Brett's punch set a lot of things in motion, didn't it? Now you know the context to Brett's conversation with Jake at the bowling alley!
  7. Very cool! You're birthday buddies!
  8. There's more than one neglected boy in this tale.

    Snow Battle

Brett is very perceptive, so surely he had an idea of how it could go, but his fear may have blinded him to the possibilities. Happily, it worked out!

Hard to think of southern California as conservative nowadays. I think we all have things about our lives we look back on and wish we'd done it differently.

    Brett's Mom

She needs something, that's for sure!
  13. You always hurt the ones you love? Or perhaps he's on the cusp of figuring some things out and he's not completely comfortable with where he's heading yet.
  14. You may be on to something there!
  15. Thanks! Just seems logical, right?
  16. Just wait, it gets better!

    The Worst Day

I write a lot about kids dealing with their parents, don't I? Even the adults in the stories are often processing their relationships with their parents - George trying not to become his father, Paula still trying to be the perfect daughter,

    Move Along

Yes, everyone should read String! lol! I'm glad you found the story that started it all! The BBD triangle... You'll see how that goes! Grandma's death was a necessary development in the story. Losing one's grandparents is often our first significant encounter with death. I wanted to explore that here. I'm so glad you can relate to Billy. He's not perfect, by a long shot, but he wants to be a good person. We'll explore how he navigates his way through life in the stories ahead!

    Move Along

Billy doesn't do well relating with others, and not just because he's thirteen. He doesn't get people. You're right, people handle death in different ways. Billy feels miserable about it, and therefore believes that everyone else should be miserable too.

    Move Along

    Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
  23. Thanks! Not only the wounds they carry, but how they deal with those wounds in their own way. Billy tries to bury them, Brett lets them fester until they explode.
