Thanks! I was very pleased with it myself! It was the placement of Jake's hands that made it click for me. Kyle went from pushing him away to letting him in.

State College is a good 2-3 hours away, which might as well be on the other side of the world for a kid in high school. Still pondering what to do with these boys now that I put them together.

I wanted to contrast the neat and tidy Danny with the messy and rough Kyle. Just another reason why they would rub each other the wrong way. Maybe we should explore that a little more.

Poor Jake! lol He's just a guy trying to get laid! Kyle - he keeps his distance because it hurts too much to lose someone you love. Better to keep people at a distance so they can't hurt you.

I've looked for some way to bring Aiden in, but I haven't found one, except rumors about what happened with that principal back in the day. Somebody took him down, right? I was thinking that Kyle and Billy would connect because of their similar tastes in music. It's not that Billy didn't like to chat, you just had to pick the right subject and then he wouldn't shut up.

The old saying, "A clean desk is a sign of a sick mind." Remember, Danny's room is immaculate. My mom and her sisters all had names that started with 'J's' Notice, Kyle's mom is a 'K' too!

Thank you! Certainly, Kyle had a deeper connection to his mom than his dad. He's kind of like "If I pretend it doesn't hurt it won't."

I wrote him thinking PTSD. Kind of detached, seeming not to care, but desperately needing to be loved.

I pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant Kyle told me about a little before the time he’d said to meet him there. I wasn’t surprised to see his car already there of course. I parked the car my dad had given to me as a gift. Sure, it was a “dad car” which meant it was from his used car business, but it was reliable and got me where I needed to go. I left my phone in the car like I’d promised. I saw from the sticker in the rear window of his car that Kyle had a parking permit at the Penn St

Kyle's confident introversion can make him come off as aloof and arrogant. Danny's dealt with Kyle for a long time and lived in his shadow because Kyle is clearly a very talented and intelligent young man. After his fling with Ryan and his affair with Danny, maybe Jake is just looking for that stability he's always been longing for. Kyle is definitely one of the most mature characters we've encountered yet, and that includes some of the adults!

As usual your confidence exceeds mine! But I do appreciate it!

I thought of Ryan as getting caught up in his new-found glory as the football hero. The only reason he was open was because no one was defending him, and Jake had thrown him wounded duck throws half the summer so it was an easy catch and run for him. It's easy to let things go to your head when you go from zero to hero in a moment.

I'm thrilled with how many people are enjoying this story. It's got to be the most popular thing I've written, engaging new readers and giving my old WAR readers some fun moments as well. That said, I do just want to let it play out and bring it to a satisfying conclusion at some point, certainly no plans for a part two. That said, I've said that before, so you never know. But I'm fairly confident this one is strong enough to stand on its own. Plus, when we get too far into their future, it's our present. Story time it's 2017-18 now. Do you really want to think about Ryan's graduation being cancelled, or Jake's first year in college being squashed by what's to come? Yikes! Better to wrap it up before it crashes into reality!

I find I tend to write in a sort of "past present" style. The narrator is both looking back from some uncertain future and living through the current events with the reader. That's my usual style. So when Jake says in narration "We never did x again," it usually means never from the last time it was mentioned to the present in the story. Could they come back together? Sure, anything is possible. But Jake doesn't seem too broken up about it and seems to have moved on. Unlike WAR, I am not writing these characters with any sort of condition in mind except for the teenage-itis described else where. They're mere pups in the grand scheme of things.

However it works out, I think Kyle might be good for Jake and help him mature a bit. He is quite a bit older than Jake. Jake is the youngest member of the junior class and Kyle is a senior who will graduate at the end of term.

Sounds like oil and water to me! lol Let's see how it goes with Jake first. I do love how opposite Kyle and Ryan turned out to be. Shy extrovert vs. confident introvert.

Ryan - Yeah, I think most of our relationships in life end with a whimper, not a bang. People just come and go in our lives and sometimes you wonder whatever happened to them. I am liking the contrast of Ryan the shy extrovert and Kyle the confident introvert. Should be fun to explore!

I like to think that Kyle will be good for Jake no matter how it works out. He's certainly the most mature boy in the story so far.

You know me and my brooding red heads. Don't know if I'd call Kyle brooding though, just kind of a loner interested in his own things. Who said he was a virgin though? He just doesn't hook up. He's looking for deeper connection, not a quickie.

I'm delighted that it seems very few people saw Kyle coming, especially after Danny wanted to run him over!
