  1. Try the stories of Cole Parker here and at awesomedude.com
  2. You might look at Best of Nifty and the Net's list of stories: http://www.bestofnifty.org/
  3. These from Nick Witherspoon's web site. The entirely satisfying coming-of-age novel Now is the Hour, by Tom Spanbauer; Under This Cowboy's Hat, a short story anthology edited by Rob Knight; The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks by Josh Lanyon; a quick overview of the series Mahu, Mahu Surfer, Mahu Fire, and Mahu Vice by Neil Plakcy featuring the gay detective Kimo Kanapa'aka; and a review of the marvellous and thoughtful Bareback by Kit Whitfield which is not at all about what you think it's about but is nevertheless most apposite to gay-shaded men and women. In addition, I recommend I.G. Hayes Map of the Harbor Islands as well as other mysteries by Josh Lanyon.

  7. I'm using the 8.1 Update, which just came out. There doesn't seem to be much difference between it and 8.1 except that there are minimize and delete symbols for the Metro windows. Like Kitt, I do not have a computer that has a touch screen, so I found that Start8 from Stardock.com (about $5,00) lets me have my Windows 7 type of start menu with the option of going to the Windows8 screen -- for solitaire and such. With the update, it's a bit easier to get back to my Windows 7 lookalike (almost) start screen by minimizing or closing a Windows 8 app. The Start8 start screen has one feature that I always liked in Windows 7: for each program there is a list of the last files or documents used that will come up when the file is clicked. It also has the options for Devices and Printers, Control Panel, etc.

    Epilogue 2

I'm not good about replying to such nice comments. The date of July 2001, of course, predates 9/11, but you will notice where they had their post-concert dinner--on the 104th floor, as I recall.

Thanks. I enjoyed writing the stories. rec
  12. Apart from many, many Beatles' songs, I think Hallelujah ranks really high, especially the Jeff Buckley version.
  13. Love, Actually A bunch of themes in a very enjoyable movie -- one being gay.
  14. Sometimes baseball does it absolutely right. Sending Mariano Rivera out on the field alone so he could accept the reverence of tens of thousands ahead of his teammates was really classy. The Number 42 is finally retired from All Star appearances and will be fully retired at the end of the season. Rivera is the last grandfathered player to carry Jackie Robinson's number.

    Epilogue 2

Thanks. A plain recitation of Micah's accomplishments would have been boring, and the Steven character provides a hook for a possible future (short) story for some author.

    Epilogue 2

Epilogue 2 July 2001 It was five years later. It was New York City. Traffic was at a standstill on Seventh Avenue as Micah and David watched the taxi meter continue ticking away. They only needed to go four more blocks to 57th Street and Carnegie Hall where they’d been earlier in the day for rehearsals. “We can walk the rest of the way,” Micah said to the driver, handing him money to pay the fare plus a tip. He grabbed the clothing bag with his tuxedo in it and hopped ou

Epilogue 1 1996 Six Months Later Micah and Kat knew the ruse would work, but David was somewhat skeptical as they arrived at the concert hall in Richland, an hour’s drive from Walla Walla. The hall was empty except for a few workers vacuuming the carpets before the performance and checking the seats one last time. Beyond the doors to the lobby that swung open from time to time, David could see through the windows to the street outside, where cars would drive b

    Chapter 41

Chapter 41 Matthew 7:1 – February 1996 Later That Day Shooed out of the kitchen earlier so that Betty could be alone and occupied with dinner, Kat finally left Greg and Rachel in the den, went back to the kitchen and asked if she could help, catching Betty staring into the blank faces of the kitchen cabinets. “You can set the table,” Betty suggested, as she was startled out of her daze. “No need. Micah and David are doing that.”

    Chapter 40

Chapter 40 Come With Me, David – February 1996 The Next Morning It was the next morning, shortly after breakfast – breakfast that Stan and Kat had made for the family, as Betty stayed away. They were finishing their coffee when Betty appeared at the kitchen door. “Come with me, David.” It was an order from Betty, not a request, and it was said with a determination that brooked no compromise. She immediately left by the kitchen door. David contemplated for
