I can't believe he took Winkler with him on the xebec. I think that was a very big risk for Winkler. Winkler is one of his most important staff he has ever had. I Don't think he could ever replace him. Should stay on board his ship not there to pamper him on a special operation like this.

I am surprised that there had not already been a flag system on top of Gibraltar. Being able to establish that and the local government doing all the provisions for them is enough to offset allowing a Spanish ship with wine from France every now and then.

I didn't see where he picked up the 4 guys from the trip. It may be in the next chapter. I believe that will make Lt. Sawyer 1st Lt. If so maybe George will help him move on up!

I myself think that this might help Granger get more respect from most of the other Captains that are on the panel after this. And also I really feel Sir John will have even more respect even though he will not admit it.

I agree with Andrew this was a great chapter to read. I hope that Lt. Sawyer is fast tracked for advancement!

I kind of had the feeling that Miquel might be with Cavendish. I hope Cavendish stays on land and gets some kind of position to help George and his career. Cavendish and maybe Caroline can become friends. I know this story has been written and finished now for 8 years, but just like too add my thoughts to a story! Great Story Mark!

I was wondering abut Miguel also. I figured he would go with Cavendish. But it wasn't mentioned when they left the ship. I wonder if Granger will carry Gatling to see his family.

I was actually expecting Caroline to be pregnant again from his last visit home.

Maggots and Leeches were used a lot back in those times for things like this and bleeding. I have a feeling that Calvert is going to survive. I hope he does but then again be separated and assigned to another ship. With the two of them being able to do the dance from time to time the same as with George's other loves of his life.

I totally agree. Edgar helped take care of Devon, was a true friend to him when he was in the hospital. Saved his now spoiled ass life after his second accident. And this is the way he is treated. When his parents banned him and made him and his horse banned from Devon's, Devon sure didn't go to bat for him at all. I don't think Devon is anyone I would ever want as a friend or a cousin. I think all his money has gone to his head and has nothing to do with him being sick. He's just a prick now and any little thing that crosses him he goes overboard. Maybe next time something happens to him his will have to pay someone to care for his ass or maybe he won't be saved next time when he doesn't answer the phone and nobody is concerned to go check on him.

I believe it was the first story of yours I ever read, "Deception" Gres was in a comma for about 5 weeks after a car accident in Canada. Then in another story I read shortly afterwards. "All Alone" I think Lloyd was attacked by the cattle stations managers by their son and he woke up a number of days or weeks later in the hospital with a fractured brain or something like that. The story "Great Western" If I remember the young main character was attacked by a bully and suffered a brain fracture and spent some time in the hospital over it. And seems like another story or two had something similar happening in them. I do remember the "New Beginnings" one. No problem, its I just kind of expect something like that in each story of yours I read. Most writers have patterns that they use in storylines if they write multiple stories. I am not criticizing, I was just curious in my first comment.

Quokka have you had a traumatic experience in you life like a brain injury or something like that? I have noticed this is the 4th or 5th story you have written that something like this has happened to. And they were out or in a comma for multiple weeks or months at a time. A few where a second injury or issue caused extended hospital stays. Just wondering about why it keeps coming up in so many stories.

I would have liked to have known that too. And was hoping he would get around to getting the young man from New Zealand Tipene or Stephen to relocate over and work for him.

After the trial for Kaleb. Kyle, and Jared in book 2 when the Judge recognized Nan, he called her Phyllis. I think that was the first time I heard her real name.

That would be a very good first chapter of a real good long story or novel for you to write. I am sure there are a lot more of your fan's that might agree. Did Sam's GF begin to gain his strength back because he might have some hope? Could Sam get the place up and going again and become prosperous? Does the town slowly start coming back to life also? Does Sam find him a nice young man to make his life full? Just a few thoughts.

Great story. I am glad he went out the way he intended and knew was about to happen.

That is how I found out what was in sausage. My dad bought a hog and had it processed at a meat shop. He had them to save the head and all the guts and all that and pack for some people he knew. When we got everything back he called the people to come and pick up the stuff he was giving them. When they later came. The lady un-wrapped the head. She asked my Mom why didn't we have that put in the sausage. I asked my Mom if people did that. She said that they did, but we didn't that my Dad and all us liked a lot of spice in things and he had the sausage made with more spices parts of the shoulder. I knew ours tasted different than other sausage that she cooked when we ran out of ours. So from that day on I never at any more sausage. Also I think he only bought a hog like that for another couple of years. The processing place closed when the owner retired so he just stopped buying any more hogs. As long as I can afford to buy bacon, porkchops and ham it will not eat the parts.

Yeah me too! I don't eat sausage though. I haven't since I was about 12 years old. Since I found out what all was in it I stopped. I am not eating nuts, guts, and butts, brains and all the other stuff that is put in it. Nor do I do hotdogs, salami, or other things made with parts.

Bacon is my favorite food, then pork chops, next in line. Never would have made a good Jew, Muslim, or Seventh Day Adventist. If eating pork was the only thing I had to worry about sending me to hell, I wouldn't worry about much else.

I hope they got together!
