    A couple of months on and things have settled once again in to a new kind of normal. I don’t do very much with my life, but I have a small circle of friends to do it with, and that seems to work well for me. We usually meet up a couple of times a week, sometimes all five of us, sometimes less, and sometimes, recently, just a couple of us. Which is always me and Reece.     I have a similar problem, so maybe not best placed to give advice. My characters often end up going in directions I hadn't imagined when I started to write them, but as long as the story works, I don't mind. When I have previously tried to 'force' a character to follow a (beautifully crafted and thought out) plan, it has never gone well.

    To answer the original question, I think I’m much less interested in the ‘why not’ question than I am in the ‘why’. People (and so characters) make all kinds of ‘stupid’ decisions and choices every day, not because they are intent on creating drama nd intrigue (generally, although not exclusively) but because they perceive those choices to be the best ones available to them at the time. If readers are asking ‘but why didn’t they...’ then maybe I haven’t done a very good job of bringing the reader into my character’s world.

    Interesting options you raise there, if only there was some way of finding out how this all works out in the end!? And yes, why would you really ever really on texts and (unanswered) phone calls when such great things are at stake?
