I'm rather fond of him also, to say the least. I was going to college in the mid 1960's when he was in his prime. He was the welcome antithesis to my conservative upbringing. The Vatican Rag is my all-time favorite.

Catching up on the internet this morning, which equals GA these days - I've abandoned the rest. I had an excellent T day. Drove early to the edge of Portland where (playing the senior citizen card) I was chauffeured by my niece some thirty miles to the home of another nephew and his wife. There, along with my sister and her partner, we sampled assorted beers, ate a rational amount of each dish as it was ready in no particular order, and had a great time in general. It was a great day with the only relatives I care to spend time with these days. Black Friday? I don't think so. I'll spend the rest of the Season of Gluttony trying my best NOT to contribute to rampant capitalism. Hope you all have a great holiday season, however you choose to celebrate. -

I was trying to ask a question on that Christmas Challenge that @BHopper2 posted yesterday. I should have just left it here, since A answered it anyway. 😕 If my second question (is a poem acceptable) is answered in the affirmative, I feel a three-verse limerick (exactly 102 words) coming on. -

It might be a fun thing to do. Alex and Dean are even one-syllable names. I looked at the words and was briefly alarmed by one that seemed out of place until I learned that "pud" is informal British slang for "pudding". -

I think I'll try it, and put it all into one very long sentence. Maybe tim will post nothing but one-syllable words for the next month to help out. -

Further north, I've taken the Empire Builder between various points in Washington state and Montana/North Dakota several times. I agree with what you said, except that I found a two-person roomette great for one person. For two or more, I would be headed for one of the bedroom options, most of which have their own restroom and shower. I've done coach twice when I couldn't afford a roomette, and it was rather ugly. I always enjoyed the food, and met interesting people in the dining car (seating is arbitrary when you're single). For your characters, I recommend reserving a whole sleeping car; there are enough of them, and they can afford it. 😏 -

Me and my big mouth. Thanks for the list, but I'll have to look back to remember some of the definitions. 😕 And you might have to wait quite a while. -

Yeah, I guess that would be a few too many. The math side of my brain was still asleep. How about since the new chat thread was started. -

If I had ever heard this, I've forgotten. Thanks for another interesting word. An interesting challenge might be to write one story using all of the words that you've presented on The Drop In Centre over, say, four months or so. Edit: As @Defiance19 pointed out, that's a lot of words. Perhaps since the new chat thread was started. -
"Compassion for friends is a gift; compassion for strangers, a true treasure." I just made that my signature, with appropriate attribution, thank you. I started reading this when you were first posting it, got sidetracked, and binge-read the last 11 chapters this evening. It is an outstanding story, to say the least. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.

I'm also glad you posted it. That kind of spontaneity produces the best stories - the stories that write themselves. I would bet money it will happen again. 🙂

I was puzzled when I received a notification about this because I didn't recognize the author. After I read it I knew, and I cried with you. It's a story from your heart, and the way you wrote it is perfect. I hope this is only the first of many.

I'm happy to see another chapter. The continuing increase in these two revealing themselves to each other (deliberately and "accidentally") is probably my favorite part.

I hope the wine won out. It sure did at my place. A day on a trail crew always requires medicinal wine at the end of the day. -

Hey! Don't knock "Tiger"! It's one of my favorites! "Little Tiger" is even better. Most of the rest of them are just too ... gooey. -

A careful study would be required, and over time. One data point I know concerning male teachers is 25 years in the past concerning a local HS teacher/coach who got away with quite a bit with female students. Everything was swept under the rug when the administration got suspicious, and he quietly quit and went on to another career. It all came out when he was accused of raping one of his employees and more of his former students came forward. The only data point I have for female HS teachers with male students is also local but very old, and it supports your hypothesis. However, my situation was at the college level, and I wonder if the level of tolerance would be different both then and now since one is dealing with (presumably) consenting adults. -

At this point in time, I think any teacher would be crucified for suggesting such a thing. This was on the order of fifty years ago. Times have changed, and in this case for the better. I found it disgusting at the time. First, it was outside my conservative upbringing. Second, I was still trying to understand my own own sexuality, and I was essentially asexual in practice. Given earlier knowledge of what was going on, I would have dropped the class immediately. -

Brings to mind a technical writing course I once took, back when instructing was done in three dimensions instead of two. I was puzzled about my grade on my research paper, carefully done to specs. When I went to see the instructor, she suggested that if it had been earlier in the semester, we "could have worked something out". In discussing the class later with my male peers, I learned that her body language was more important than the specs, and grades had a lot to do with "performance" other than English. -
I'll see if I can wait for the next release of updates. In the meantime, I'll peruse the most recent copy of Playwolf. 😏
