Chapter 29 - North ............! After a good nights sleep, the Mason's joined them for breakfast the next morning before they hit the road, heading for the Rockies and their first stop in the mountains, Lake Louise. The almost two hour drive took them west from Calgary on the Trans Canada highway to the town of Canmore, where they entered the Banff National Park. Andrew would have loved to have stayed at the Chateau Lake Louise, but eventually settled for a lovely five bedroomed mountain

With the prospect of only a short sail, and then a day at leisure, there was no urgency to get going in the morning. Andrew and Ryan were up at 07h00 doing a quick tidy up, plumping cushions, wiping down surfaces and vacuuming the saloon and aft deck floors. Ryan also took advantage of being tied to the dock to attach a hose and wash down the outside decks with fresh water to get rid of the dust and salt. Andrew then got to work in the galley, having decided to have a late brunch. To appeas

Eventually, their time alone drew to an end and dawn on Sunday morning found them approaching the tiny harbour at the foot of Hermanus, a small seaside town on the southern Cape coast. They were a few hours ahead of schedule and they quietly found an anchorage in the harbour. Then they both went to lie down. Just after 08h00, Andrew's mobile buzzed in the locker next to the bed. At first, befuddled with sleep, he was puzzled by the sound. They had not heard the sound of a mobile for four da

Hi @Summerabbacat, thank you for your comment. Again! Ryan is Cameron's dad, so obviously Andrew is Elizabeth's. In my mind they both love Rascal equally. In one of the previous chapters, he was sleeping on the bed with her. It all just comes down to how I felt on the day that I wrote that portion of the narrative.

I notice there are a number of folks who are reading 'Never walk alone' at the moment, and who are leaving reactions to the chapters. I want to thank you all for taking the time to read my book and for your reactions. Those of you who have left comments, thank you too. They are all much appreciated. And that applies to everyone who has read 'Never walk alone'. Not in my wildest dreams did I think my first book would get the reception that it did. I am beyond humbled!

@drsawzall, thanks for the comment. My apologies for making your life harder than it should be, but hopefully reading the book gives some relief as well. I'm not sure if it was a other one of your comments I replied to in an earlier chapter in Book1, but I was once where you are now and managed to lose almost 45 pounds on Weight watchers. And have never regretted it. It takes work to keep the weight down, but just keeping to the principles of the diet works just great. Disney is not called The Magic Kingdom for nothing. Even as an adult, When I was there, it was an amazing experience. The place just brings out the child in all of us and if it doesn't affect you, you either have serious problems, are comatose or already dead!!

It is impressive. What I really enjoyed was the fact that we stopped in Kamloops overnight and in so doing we didn't miss out on any of the scenery. Sp often on overnight long distance sleepers you miss half the scenery during the night

Hi there @Butcher56. thanks for the great comment. PM me with the dishes you are interested in and I will send you recipes. I cannot think of any of the meats that you would not be able to get in the states. It's all very basic and the usual stuff you get in the stores. You probably just know it by a different name. Let me know and I will see where I can help.

Hi Anton, thanks for the great comment. Have you researched a recipe for bobotie. It's basically lamb mince (I think you guys refer to it as ground lamb) although you can use ground beef as well with just as a good a result. Then spices and topped with beaten egg and baked. if you want a recipe, send me a PM and I will send one to you.

Chapter 30 - ................And South. After takeoff, they got comfortable for the almost nine hour flight south to Orlando International. When they had made the reservations, the boys had to decide on a very early non stop departure or a late morning depar-ture with a stop in Toronto and had decided to go with the later departure, even though it meant losing three hours of the day due to the time difference and the stopover, and got them into Orlando just before 11pm. In light of the e

@plass110, thank you for your comment and for reading my first book. I know if sounds clichéd, but I still have to pinch myself to believe that folks are actually reading it. STILL!!!!!! I hope you enjoy the rest of the story and hope you'll read Book 2 when you are done.

We South Africans generally love our meat. To be honest, I could be a vegetarian quite easily - love my veggies and I don't eat a lot of red meat. Much prefer poultry and fish. It may sound weird, but a have a copy of Rascal's paw impression in stained glass hanging on my bedroom wall. I still miss him like crazy (tearing up as I type this).

Anton, thanks for the great comment. As I just said in my reply to Chris, I absolutely loved Canada. Or at least, the parts I have visited. Mainly the west coast area and the Rockies, Alberta, and Ontario. Loved Vancouver but actually fell head over heals in love with Quebec City, and could quite easily have stayed in Banff area as well. The Banff - Vancouver trip is from my own experience on board the Rocky Mountaineer.
-
H Chris, thanks for your comment. Yeah, I think my personal enjoyment of the trip I did comes through in the chapter. I loved Canada!

The food is half the fun. You're lucky I haven't had them chowing down on poutine! If anything is loaded with calories, it has to be poutine! Thanks for reading and the comment.

When my own Rascal was still alive, he travelled everywhere with us. The thought never even crossed my mind to put hin into a pet hotel while we were away. Probably comes from my childhood, where my parents took us to the coast and out basset hound went into the kennels. We never saw him again - he died before we returned. It is only due to the extended length of time they are going to be away, that they preferred to have Rascal with them. They have left him with David and Janice before, and also with Claude when they have only been away for a day or two.

Thanks for the great comment @Summerabbacat. I will admit to taking a few liberties as far as Rascal and his travels are concerned, although in real life he travelled extensively with me with no problems whatsoever. All it took was thorough planning. As to your comment about the Calgary Stampede, I attended one event, and although having been back to Calgary a few times since then, not gone to the Stampede again, just like I saw a single bullfight in Spain and never went again.

Thank for the comment. I did look at sending them East but the flying time was a bit longer. The timings were horrible.
-
Thank you for reading and commenting. I've got 15 chapters written, although not all are edited yet. The plan is to post once a week.
-
Definitely more to come, I promise. Hope you enjoy reading it.

Thanks Chris. There is more to come. Enjoy!

CHAPTER 28 - Reunion Five years later. The accolades that the Devlin-Major Portfolio received that night was indeed a watershed moment in their lives. The lodges became so popular, they were almost fully booked right through the year, and just doing basic maintenance and refurbishment of the properties became a huge challenge, necessitating the closure of rooms or floors for upkeep to be done to Andrew and Ryan's satisfaction. To them, the reputations of the lodges came before prof
