I can't answer for the gay parents but from the straight perspective I doubt there is much difference. I think it all depends on who the individuals are as a couple and their own set of values. Its a parent's job to teach. In real life every kid learns differently and every parent teaches differently. Some are better than others. I was raised in Generation X, yes we were given a lot a freedom as kids and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I learned how to problem solve by seeing my dad "fix" things with duct tape and baling wire. I absorbed domestic skills by helping my mom cook and keep a household of 8 people running with controlled chaos. The first love I learned was a gift given to me by my parents. The values they instilled in me shaped me into who I am today. I tried to raise my two boys with those values and for the most part I think it worked. I've had moments when I've been overwhelmed with pride for something one of them accomplished or did. I've also experienced bitter disappointment when the reality that I also failed one of them hit me like a brick wall. Every parent regardless of their sexuality has those high and low moments. The advent of 24 hour television, internet, and social media has added another layer of parenting that has to be navigated. Social media, especially is something that today's parents should be shit scared of because of the influence it has on kids. As far as negotiating freedom, it depends on the kid's ages. All kids need rules and structure. Parent's need to provide this and be open to changing as their child matures. Just because one teenager can be trusted to be home by midnight doesn't mean another can be. Flexibility, rather than negotiation should be key. Gay or straight, it's our responsibility to give our kids the tools they need to navigate life. Whether or not they use those tools is up to them.

Saharan dust reaches the southern US several times a year. We would get alerts in Florida as it affected the air quality, especially for people with breathing issues like asthma. It did, however, create breathtaking sunsets. I believe this was one of them if memory serves me right

While I'm grateful it's not subzero outside, I still don't like to be hot. Our office was so stuffy today. If there was a breeze it would've been fine because it's a beautiful 80 degrees and not that humid, and we get a nice cross breeze on a windy day, but the air was stuffy even with the windows open. I'm looking forward to opening the car windows on the ride home tonight. I kinda envy dogs being able to stick their heads out the window lol.

Thanks, the advice helps. I've gone ahead and applied for the specialty program at the other hospital. If it goes through then I'll switch. If not I'll still dump the other doctor and reevaluate other options. I went out with a friend tonight and we talked at length. She started getting mad for me and basically said my current doc should "go eff himself". I love my friend. I've never been uncomfortable with a doctor before. I guess I was overdue. I feel better about my decision and am working on not being so hard on myself over this.

Ok my fellow DiCers. I need a little feedback. I'm considering changing doctors (a specialist not my primary). Unfortunately it would involve switching to a different medical group for this specialty, which may be a pain when it comes to continuity of care and communication of medical records as they don't share systems. Have any of you ever changed doctors for any reason other than a change in insurance (which sucks sometimes) and were you happy with your decision?

I got a new knife. Promptly cut myself using said knife. 🤦‍♀️ Went thru 2 regular bandaids before I smartened up and used a gigantic bandaid. Crisis averted and no food was contaminated. I did have to wash two plates after I set the table. All is well now. Guess I need to be more careful.

Hope everyone is hanging in there. Halfway through the week folks. My household has been battling colds and/or allergies all week. Haven't figured out who has what. I'm just medicating everyone. At least I don't have to work this Saturday and we get to leave at 3 on Friday, so that's a plus. The new car is working out nicely. Its a good fit. Have a good rest of your week everyone!

I don't think there's really an answer to that question. Its more like we are who we need to be at any given moment---a husband, a wife, a son or daughter, a parent, a friend, a coworker, a stranger. If anything we're adaptable. Do we always like who we are in that moment? No. Do we adjust? Most of the time. We're individuals still trying to figure it out no matter how young or old we are.

In case you missed it, I had to go through the process of getting a new car, which I wasn't planning on. However, I think I came out ahead of the game. I decided to look at Carvana and had it narrowed down to two different makes. After researching further, I selected one and started the process last night. Honestly, I was skeptical about buying a car completely online and am happy to say that other than the State of Massachusetts requiring you to jump through extra hoops, everything went smoothly. On Sunday I will become the owner of a slightly used 2025 Chevy SUV. It has less than 30K miles on it versus the 140K the other car had and it's much newer. The best part is I was able to get a better interest rate and my payments are almost $100 less per month. Overall, it wasn't as nearly as stressful as going to a dealer and so far I'm happy I went this route. I'll let you know how the car is after it's delivered. Have a good one!
