This. I know some are frustrated with Matt. But he's freshly 21, his relationship is bounds above others. Living with someone you're dating is different than living with someone as a roommate. I think its okay for Matt to slow it down if that's what makes him feel comfortable. Especially if his past relationships didn't work out. Do they need to talk, yes. And Matt knows that. He's learning how to do it right.

I get where you're coming from but "going home for the summer" is kind of an honored tradition. It's not so much that Matt is being dumb, as Matt's coming from a place where he knows this is the last summer he has with his dad before he get's an adult job and adult responsibilities. I think he talks more about this in the next chapter *Spoiler* how he would feel guilty giving up his last summer with his dad because he wanted to be with a boyfriend. Either him and Seamus last, in which they get to spend their whole lives together, so it's no big deal to spend one summer apart. Or Matt stays with Seamus for the summer, they break up, and Matt missed that time with his dad because he was basing his decisions on hormones and feelings. Matt going home shouldn't be Seamus's decision. He is still a college student, he should be able to go home for two months.

actually.... You should read my other books. This is a speeding rocket in comparison. By far the quickest two of my characters have ever gotten together.

We learn more about Seamus's dating history soon. It explains some of his reservations. But he did it, for the sake of sanity, he was direct with Matt. Matt knows Seamus well but I do think Matt is a little more observant once he's in the loop.

I don't know what you mean when you say "you could end it right here?" That sounds terrible. There's so much growth left. We don't even really know Seamus! Tell us more about Kelly. Or Matt. How does Matt grow as a parent? They haven't even consumated their relationship. Who causes the conflict? Climax? Resolution? End now? Blasphemy.

I think Matt will always feel like the relationship is unbalanced. But it won't actually be.

Friday night, after Aidan was safe and sound with Grandpa, Seamus dragged Matt out of the apartment and took him to Coffee|Bar. Despite having worked the day shift a while now, he’d never been there after hours. The live music was a woman and her acoustic guitar, singing cover songs that were better than the originals.
