  1. It's great to be back in the story, but I'm curious about what has happened in the last eight months. How has Carter managed to be the one running the company? Why did Carter refer to Laura as Aunt before he got cut off? What has happened to Ethan's mum? And just as important, why is Dexter still around? I hope we get answers to these questions as this book unfolds, and I'm eager to know what happens next. What is Carter up to and will he succeed in bringing Jeremy back?
  2. That's good to see. Whoever the author is, I'm sure they will appreciate your reactions and comments should you wish to leave them.

    Chapter 1

An intriguing start to this mystery, which is partially solved. We know what happened to Damien and have a possible explanation, but not who did it. What other information is Ethan withholding? Could he be more involved than he is admitting, or is he afraid for his life?
  4. Aloha Albert.

    Chapter 29

It is also possible for a marriage certificate to be forged, which makes me wary of Ruby's 'information'.

    Chapter 29

There is a lot of good stuff happening for Ollie, could it be that Toby becomes a part of Ollie's new family? The downside is that there are a few flies in the ointment, so to speak, let's hope the flies can be removed and discarded. I get the feeling that Ruby's information may not be as truthful as she claims it is, it needs checking thoroughly.

    Chapter 11

Danny and Jake take time to enjoy some of their 'earnings' from Jake, but they need to be careful as at least Thomas shows signs of curiosity about their friendship with Jake. Danny took a risk carrying the weed around for that length of time; one tiny mistake could easily have got him caught! What is the basis of the attraction between Danny and Jake? Is Danny just crushing on the friendly, attractive, slightly older guy? Is Jake just crushing on the youthful attraction of a friendly teen? Or is it the start of something more meaningful? Whatever it is, they both need to be careful as it could easily cause a lot of trouble if they are discovered by the wrong person, especially for Jake as due to the age difference, he could be seen as a predator and possibly imprisoned for a serious sexual offence against a minor.

    Chapter 10

Danny and Nate show the traits of being good and true friends, not just to each other but to Jake too. Maybe Nate is starting to realise there is more between Danny and Jake, but if he is, he doesn't appear to care or, to be more accurate, he only cares in the best way. Enter Lachlan, the big brother who is protective of Nate, and Danny as his 'adopted' brother. You don't mess with Lachlan's family, or you face the consequences and messing with Nate and Danny's friends is, by extension, messing with family. The trust between them is demonstrated in their exchange about the weed, Lachlan understands Jake's need for some 'medicinal' weed.

  10. There is no difference; it's just different terminology for the same thing.
  11. Aloha Albert.
  12. All of these exist in the UK, although some aspects are suffering due to a lack of funding.
  13. It varies, most of the fast-food outlets in the UK are franchise operations. Some prefer to prioritise drive-thru customers, but others prefer you to eat on the premises. Some close the premises and only serve drive-thru customers during late-night hours, very few have 24-hour opening hours.
  14. UK law states that every employee is entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks paid holiday per year, it does not state the number of days as it is different for those who work more or less than five days a week. If you work five days a week this equates to 28 days at your normal basic pay. If you work less than five days a week, it is pro-rata to your normal working week, so working two days a week equates to 11.2 days of paid holiday entitlement per year; this equals 5.6 weeks at two days per week. Similarly, if you work six days a week, this equates to 33.6 days of paid per year; this equals 5.6 weeks at six days per week. It sounds more complicated than it is, but it is calculated this way so that paid holidays are proportionate to your working week.
  15. They are nice with chips and mushy peas too, and the gravy should be a good onion gravy.
  16. If you like Yorkshire pudding as a sweet treat, you could add spices like cinnamon to the ingredients, but I'm not sure how much you add, you would need to figure that out for yourself.
  17. Hi Gary.
  18. Specsavers have a few comical adverts on our screens, but the condom advert is hilarious, I love it. I've never seen an ad like it before, is the condom ad from Belgium?
  19. Did you know that Yorkshire pudding can also be a tasty sweet treat? If you leave out the herbs, they have a neutral flavour. After cooking and allowing them to cool until warm, you can then top with jam (jelly in the US), syrup or any sweet topping to give a tasty sweet treat.
  20. Aloha Albert.
  21. And both are very tasty(especially if homemade), warm and welcoming in the colder months.
  22. Yep, our drink sizes are smaller in the UK. I'm told that in many US McDonald's restaurants you can have free refills during your visit, is this right?

    Chapter 9

I read this yesterday and had to leave it until today to come back and comment; I needed time to calm down and collect myself first. I'm thankful that this was written in a way that told us what happened without going into detail, which could have been horrific. The fact that Jake did not want to make a full report is not surprising, especially taking into account the time this is set in. Many men, then and now, would feel humiliated, debased and more after such an encounter, some feel suicidal. Jake has learned that his situation would probably be made worse by reporting what happened and has somehow been able to deal with it in his own way. Support for victims is abysmal now; I can only guess that back then, it was non-existent and may have resulted in Jake being treated as if he were a criminal. Danny's actions are the actions of a friend and show true compassion. Unfortunately, what has happened to Jake is a horrific lesson for Danny to learn and warn him to take precautions in looking after himself in the future. Straight men, and in many cases gay men, raping gay men is not about the sex, it is about power. The power to overwhelm and inflict one's own will on someone else, leaving another human being feeling helpless, gives the rapist a perverted boost to their inferior sense of self-confidence. Often, the perpetrator is known to the victim, but not in all cases, and is sometimes someone the victim has trusted. The long-term psychological and/or physical effects can be devastating and life-changing for some.
  24. Have you tried faggots? Fresh are the best, but Brain's frozen faggots are okay. Something that is only available in the UK apparently, even then it sometimes depends on where in the UK you live. Some Americans have expressed horror at eating things like black pudding, white pudding, haggis and faggots after reading the list of ingredients and do not realise how tasty they are.
  25. The definition of what constitutes chocolate does vary depending on where in the world you live. I don't know if this happens in many countries, but I have noticed that here in the UK, some 'variants' get around the rules by stating they are chocolate-flavoured. In my opinion, they are inferior and do not have a nice taste. I think some of the best chocolate is Swiss or Belgian chocolate; it has a richer flavour and is often among the most expensive.
