  1. Time to cuddle up with a good book, methinks, Val. and maybe a glass of your favourite wine (or hot drink).
  2. Yes... The outbreaks in the US are making news this side of The Pond, as well. Here in Ireland we're about half-way through a "Level 5" lockdown (the highest level available, short of putting everyone under curfew), due to end on Dec 1st, and designed to stop a worrying rise in infections seen in September and October. Positive cases, hospitalisations, and numbers in intensive care units, are all slowly falling, making the possibility of a semi-normal Christmas look a bit more likely...
  3. Hey, Albert! Hope all's well with you, today. And that any movements of the earth you feel are caused just by you and Steve's activities, this time.
  4. Happy Sunday, everyone! A dampish sort of day here. Overcast and drizzle at the moment, with the temperature at about 8°C/46°F, but a real feel of several degrees less... Spent about half an hour earlier out in the garden tidying up an approximately metre-and-a-half (5 foot) wide strip where I grew garden peas in the summer. I have some winter onion sets I intend to plant there, that should give me some early onions next year, to fill the gap until the maincrop (storable over the winter) ones are ready. It started to drizzle whilst I was forking the soil over and removing the inevitable weed roots. We're promised more of the same sort of weather for much of the coming week, but I really must get these onion sets planted as soon as possible. I'm back in the house at the moment trying to warm myself up with a mug of coffee and a slice of banana cake. I'll check outside again in half an hour or so and decide whether to continue gardening today or not. There's a brand new teak back door sitting on trestles in the store area still needing varnishing before it's hung. If the weather stays wet, I may make a start on that instead of trying to plant onion sets in wet, sticky soil...
  5. Once again, I'm all Zoomed out...
  6. Hope the three of you had a good night's sleep.
  7. Tired.... Good night, all!
  8. Welcome @Wombat Bill! I really must get round to reading The Covids eventually. Two reasons why I haven't, yet: I seldom read stories before they are marked as complete. If only because sometimes authors take a long time, and then I find myself having to go back and read earlier chapters to remember the plot. (And I'm probably one of the most guilty on here for leaving readers waiting for ages for updates.) Just at the moment I am actually finding it difficult to actually motivate myself to read. Probably a Covid related reaction... I promise to get to it once this funk starts to lift.
  9. Welcome, @Gary L! I'm gonna take a stab, and suggest statement 3 is false... (And I love the mention of the 21 year long one-night stand!)
  10. You're more than welcome, @astone2292!
  11. I suppose that depends upon what you think it is... Penny for your thoughts, ma fée diabolique.
  12. Here's my week 33 of 52 black and white photograph: A fuschia flower in my back garden.
  13. Hi there, young Albert. Hope you're keeping safe.
  14. Another one that looks as though you've tired him out, Gary....
  15. For lunch today, I am planning on meeting a couple of friends who are in my social bubble (including one of my male strippers), ordering a takeaway from the restaurant where we would normally have lunch, and eating it sat in one of their dining rooms. It will be nice to have a bit of a natter and some social interaction after a week of hardly speaking to anyone. I'm thinking of fish and chips (fries) with a side salad for. myself On the way there, I shall pick up some shopping for one of them. I shall have to be heading off to meet them in little over an hour. And, of course it's Friday. So with the short days at the moment meaning it's likely to be dark before I get home, I'd better potter around the garden with TN before I leave, and take some photographs for my weekly black & white challenge... Happy Friday, everyone!
  16. Unless he's standing on a chair....
  17. Good idea, indeed! I got mine on the 9th of October.
  18. My condolences, @Bucket1, to you, to your sister, and to the family and friends of your sister's friend. ❤️ It's always a shock when someone leaves us suddenly. I'm reminded of attending the funeral of a friend's mother about 30 years ago, who had also died very suddenly of a massive heart attack. I was stood at the graveside after the burial, and commented quietly to the vicar who had officiated something along the lines that it must be a nice way to go, quickly, rather than suffering and perhaps being in pain for a long time. It was remembering my own father's recent death following a long and painful battle after being diagnosed with stomach cancer that probably made me utter those words. The vicar replied along the lines that, whilst it may be nice for the person who has died, it is not nice for those who are left behind, simply because they haven't expected it to happen and had no time to prepare themselves for it. That short exchange made me reassess my thoughts...
  19. Greetings, young man!
  20. No matter. It made me laugh as it was, and still makes me laugh as it now is. (I deliberately didn't comment on the omission of an asterisk when you typed the word servants in the second sentence... ) (~ Marty ~ The now, and future, pedant.)
  21. One hundred and two years ago today The Armistice was signed at 5am in a railway carriage in the Forest of Compiegne, France. Six hours later, at 11am, the First World War (touted as The War To End All wars) officially ended. I can never listen to that song without it bringing tears to my eyes. The last verse is particularly poignant...
