  1. Cool! Oddly it made me think of the following:
  2. Ah, to be sure! If it's on wikipedia, it must be true! To be sure, to be sure!
  3. Yep, it can be, and often is, made with kale. But kale is really just a variety of cabbage that doesn't form a head. Another name for it is leaf cabbage. Cabbage, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprout, cauliflower, and kohl rabbi are all basically the same species: Brassica oleracea. The different varieties are the result of artificial selection by humans over millennia (as opposed to Darwinian natural selection).
  4. Huh? That sounds more like barmbrack to me...
  5. I was thinking more along the lines of traditional Irish Colcannon. (Google it )
  6. Whatever I have is going to include half of this homegrown beauty from my garden
  7. Hi, Albert! Happy Wednesday, everyone. Sorry, can't stay. Have a Zoom meeting starting in a couple of minutes.
  8. Hi everyone. Hope you're all having a good day. I've been a bit worried, as I seem to have come down with a head cold, even though I have been as careful as possible with my social distancing. My worry, of course, being that I couldn't be 100% certain that it is merely a head cold, even though the symptoms are exactly the same as every other head cold I've had. However, I've just had my temperature taken, and it is 36.2°C (97.2°F), so it's definitely not covid-19 related. My GP tells me the normal range for human body temperature is from 36 to 36.8°C (96.8 to 98.2°F), and that older people are likely to have readings in the lower range. He thinks I probably got infected either when I picked up or left back the blood pressure monitor last week I expect to be back to normal in a few days (I usually am), but don't worry if this head cold means I don't join in the chat here as much for the next while.
  9. My understanding has always been that kith refers to close friends or acquaintances, whereas kin refers to family and relatives. Otherwise, the term kith and kin would almost be a tautology... Of course, I may be wrong

    Chapter 15

Not that I'm really complaining, but it's getting difficult to keep up with all the new characters in this story, @Mancunian! So, of course I'm now wondering why Kenny's aunt and uncle threw him out...

    Part 2

Oh dear... poor wee John. ❤️
  12. I would call those chapters...but to each his own, I guess. Me too, Cassie. Me too.
  13. I'm just surprised it took Albert so long to make that comment.
  14. Not sure how you can have more than one epilogue to a single story...
  15. So they'e not sun dried. You wee fibber, you!
  16. Well, I assume when you said you are making sun dried tomatoes, that you are drying them in the sun....
  17. Not too bad of a day here. Dry, but not a lot of sunshine. I managed to lift the last of the potatoes after breakfast. I've left them on the ground for the time being to let some of the muddy soil dry out before storing them. I also spread the onions I lifted a week or so back on the lawn, to let the skins harden and the green tops whither a bit more. I'll string them and hang them in the old cottage eventually. Picked more runner beans and peas, and ten of the small round carrots. I'll steam them all this evening to eat with some steamed potatoes. There were more runner beans than I'll need, so half of them have gone into the freezer. Research for a story, I assume?
  18. Howdy, Gary!
  19. Yea... But then they wouldn't be sun dried. (And I don't have that many shelves in my oven)
  20. Hi, Page!
  21. Hey, Albert!
  22. We don't get enough sun here in Ireland to do that. You'll just have to send some across to me on your private jet.

    Part 1

Interesting start. I'm looking forward to see how this story goes. Of course, I'm wondering whether Philip and Emily will foster young John. I'm also wondering about the fact that Christian is the real name of John in the original Boot story, but he used the surname Edwards, Philip and Emily's surname, although the Christian in this chapter says he had been fostered by the Watsons...
  24. Sorry, Albert.... Even Google Translate seems stumped by your comment.
