  1. Before Val gets in....
  2. For dinner tonight, I am having homemade beef curry (from the freezer) on a bed of boiled rice. A late dinner because I was involved in a Zoom meeting this evening that ran on much longer than had been promised. Hence the "convenience meal." The vegetables I brought in from the garden can be used for tomorrow evening's dinner.
  3. Albert! How are you, my friend?
  4. Hi, Page! By the way, did you know that there's evidence that watermelon contains a chemical similar to the one in viagra that helps overcome erectile dysfunction?
  5. What Gary said! Blessèd be, and stay safe, dughlas.
  6. I did wonder the same, myself. Apple, gooseberries, and blackcurrants are good sources of natural pectin. I reckon apple would probably be best for watermelon jam, as it shouldn't mask its delicate flavour too much. I often add a little grated apple when I am making the likes of raspberry jam. Of course, you could use jam making sugar, which has added pectin. But (a) it's far more expensive than simple granulated sugar, and (b) I like to know the origin of the ingredients I add to my recipes.
  7. Wow! You know me so well, bro! And I also usually bring my thermos flask with me to a hotel breakfast as well. And fill it with either freshly brewed coffee or chilled orange juice (depending on the weather), to help wash down the apple (and banana) I picked up for lunch.
  8. The friend I met up with doesn't like black pudding, so his finished up on my plate. I asked him one time why he doesn't just ask for two white puddings, instead of the standard one black and one white. He claims he doesn't because he would miss the look of pure enjoyment on my face when he passes over the black pudding to me...
  9. You might not believe me, but when I first typed that comment I had added the following in brackets following the word mushrooms: But I then decided to delete it, just to see what your reaction would be!
  10. Time for me to head to bed...
  11. Thought of the day:
  12. My doctor did tell me that, although I need to be careful about what, and how much, I eat, because of my diagnosis with Type 2 diabetes eight years ago, I shouldn't be frightened of 'treating' myself on the odd occasion. Today's breakfast was one of those occasions.
  13. So did I. In Cinerama format at a cinema in Manchester. We were sat in the centre on the front row, so the curved screen basically wrapped around us. It felt as though we were actually in the film. In the opening sequence, when the apes were leaping from side to side, I found myself actually ducking, as they appeared to be jumping over my head. And in the final, starfield scene, I really felt as though I was being sucked into the screen as the stars were rushing past me. One of the trippiest experiences I have ever experienced at the cinema. I have a copy on an external hard drive. But watching it on a small screen just isn't the same.
  14. I met a friend for breakfast this morning, and had a "Full Irish." Fried egg, bacon, sausages, black pudding, white pudding, mushrooms, baked beans, fried tomato, hash brown, buttered toast, soda bread with butter and marmalade, strong black coffee..., and lashings of delicious conversation. Yummy, yummy, yum!
  15. I made jam last night from some of my frozen raspberries. I needed to make space in the freezer for garden peas and runner beans.
  16. Anyway, at the risk of sounding a bit like a homophone, I'll just drop this here:
  17. "I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that." I never watched the TV series Millenium, so don't know if the quote you reference was also in that, but I remember it from the 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey...
  18. Greetings, Albert! I'm hoping the wind has changed again overnight...
  19. Off to bed. Meeting a friend for breakfast in the morning. Good night, all.
  20. Sure, she only started making it a few days ago. The yeast won't have had time to make much alcohol in that short of a time. I doubt it'll be any more potent than the ginger beer my mam used to make for us when I was a nipper.
  21. Talking of philately jokes....
  22. And I love the way you try to steal my thunder. What is it they say....? Oh yes: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." But, remember:
