  1. I'll admit that I also heard from CJ, though he didn't ask me to pass on a message -- he obviously thought I might consider that to be a spoiler Emoe's email had a lot more detail in that I got. I'm going to have to have words with the goat when gets back about that Today's a better day here. For starters, it's a public holiday here. I'm proud to say that I live in the only city in the world that gets a full day holiday for a horse race -- the Melbourne Cup! I also got a new toy yesterday -- my first decent telescope. I'm still working out how to adjust the sighterscope, but I managed to get a look at Jupiter and the Galilean moons last night I was really happy. And tomorrow, Joe should be putting up the next chapter of LTMP!
  2. For some reason, this article suits my mood: Goat killer forced to make apology

    Cancer

Because cancer is a big boogie-man, people forget that there are two basic classes -- benign and malignant. Benign is essentially something that is going wrong, but not in a dreadful way. The cancer isn't spreading. You can have the benign cancer cut away and there's not a problem. Malignant is the one to worry about, because it means the cancer is spreading. Always get them tested, but don't assume that cancer means a death sentence. Good luck!
  4. The following is what Blue (adblue) posted in another thread at Codey's World while Codey was in hospital:
  5. I arrived at work today to news I've been dreading. Codey, the author of From the Heart and more poems than I care to mention, passed away on Sunday morning, USA time. Codey - Remembered and Celebrated Codey was a good friend of mine. He wrote a poem for inclusion in my current novel, and we co-wrote one short story together. His essay at the Mail Crew for their Authors Speak section, titled My Two Cents Worth, is an insightful commentary on the nature of friendship. My thoughts go out to his Grandfather, his only surviving blood relation, Tim, his boyfriend, and all their friends and families.
  6. I arrived at work today to find the lifts not working. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise -- it meant it was an extra hour before I learnt that Codey passed away on Sunday morning, USA time I really don't know how much work I'm going to get done today....
  7. It's Sunday afternoon here, so it's about time I posted something in this thread. I've noticed it's getting difficult. Without CJ's example to follow, finding motivation and reason to post is not easy... Since I know everyone really wants to know what the weather is like here in Melbourne (one of the must know facts in today's society), it's wet and windy. I don't mind the rain, since it's been so dry, but I really would prefer it if they scheduled it for night times only....
  8. I know of someone who ships it in from the UK.... Sprite and 7-up are close and should be fine for this recipe. That sounds like American lemonade.
  9. My secret recipe (as found on the internet): 4 cups self raising flour, sifted 1 cup lemonade 1 cup cream (I use thickened cream) Pinch of salt Milk Make a well in the flour and salt mixture. Add the lemonade and cream and mix until just combined. Turn onto floured surface and knead lightly. Press out dough to 3/4 inch. Cut with scone cutter (or the rim of a glass or coffee mug) Brush with milk Bake in a pre-heated 200C oven for 10-15 minutes. You can add grated cheese, bacon bits of dried fruit if you like. For anyone in North America who wants to try the recipe, check out the links on self raising flour and lemonade before you make it -- the ingredients may not be what you expect (definitely not in the case of lemonade). Thickened cream is whipping cream.
  10. Not much, really. It just seems to be a small group that likes to follow the leader, C James....
  11. To embed a picture, it needs to be already on the internet somewhere that is publicly accessible, such as one of the many photo-storage sites. To put it in, just do the following: [ img ]<url to the image>[ /img ] Just get rid of the spaces between the []'s
  12. I got second prize with my scones at a local cooking contest. That isn't as impressive as it sounds, as there were only three entries in that particular class I also won a prize with one of my photos That one I'm a lot prouder about
  13. Have a great time! I wish I was there, but the logistics were just a little difficult....
  14. The weekend at last, and it's a hectic one for me. Busy, busy, busy -- doing all those tedious chores like riding on go-karts and rollercoasters, eating junk food, watching stunt riders doing tricks on their bikes and generally having fun. Boring, I know If I've calculated this correctly, we've got 20 posts to go before we have a thread with 200 posts and NONE by C James! Miracles DO happen, if you work at them hard enough.
  15. And, unfortunately, it's on hold at the moment due to real-life factors No news on when it will be restarted.

    Shoot

Congratulations, Kurt! You've still got time to work out what you want to do with your life, so keep as many options open as you can. That applies to your parents, too -- just keep the lines of communication open, even if they don't seem to be living up to their side of the deal. Good luck!
  17. My wishes are irrelevant. It's up to him if he would prefer to be a Caprican or part of The Herd.
  18. The people don't bite, but watch out for the goats and echidna Welcome, rbenn5! Now for the tough question -- are you a Caprican or a member of The Herd? No need to answer immediately... wait until you get the best offer
  19. And lamenting how C James would have been at the top of that list....
  20. Yep, this is the right place I'm very much aware that some sections of media spin stories to make them sound more dramatic. As a consequence I usually cautious about jumping in too hard on these things. Having said that, I'm aware that some people do have the idea that males don't get raped. Even in Australia, it has only been in the last ten years that the reality has been taking hold, and some of the stigma associated with it is fading. The New South Wales Health Department website for rape victims, for example, now has a section for dealing with male rape victims. Having said that, I wish Alex all the best. He's very brave to have come forward and obviously has the full support of his parents. Because one of my online friends was raped when he was ten years old, I'm aware of a website for male rape victims. Male Survivor is there for support if you need it. I've only seen the public forums, but my friend has been a member for some time now. It is usually partisan politics that's banned. General issues are free to be discussed, as a rule. Just use common sense. There are a few hot-button issues on forums that can cause major flame wars. Politics is one of those and that is, I believe, why discussion of politics is banned.
  21. This is what we get for not having an official definition of what is an island. Defining an island as a landmass that isn't a continent that is surrounded by water just defers the problem to defining what is a continent. On Earth, you can define the continents by listing them, but once we find the first extra-terrestrial world with oceans and landmasses, the problem will re-appear. This is why there was so much debate recently on what is a planet. They weren't so much concerned as to our solar system, but other solar systems. Without some reasonably clear definition, working out how many planets other solar systems have (with potential naming rights) would be a nightmare. We need to get a move on, everyone! CJ will probably be signing in again soon, and we need to get this thread to 200 posts before then....
  22. If you feel that voting for C James as :king: :king: The Queen Of The Evilest Cliffhangers :king: :king: might be offensive, then you are, of course, allowed not to vote. Unlike Australia, we don't have mandatory voting requirements here
  23. An excellent idea! I'll go along with that -- a coronation on London Bridge!
  24. Me? That's what they all say...
