The difficulty in accessing magic in our realm would make it easy to trap a young magician who wasn't fully prepared.

There are too many great parts in the story to try to pick a favourite However, I absolutely love this interview because it told us that there will be at least a book 3 (she used the word 'titles' in the answer to question about the title of the story) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a book 4 as well), focused more on Indie and Preston. And, no, I'm not going to try to pick which is my favourite couple -- they're both great and fun, but in different ways.

Well, he's known to not trust doctors, and leeches are an old traditional treatment for a variety of conditions. And Ben is clearly in need of having bad blood drained away...

It's so easy to know the correct way for someone else to parent Remembering back to when my boys were toddlers, one of the books we had explained that personality-wise, there were four categories of toddlers: angels, angels most of the time, angels when kept under control but can easily become devils, and devils. The parents of angels could never understand the children who were devils, and tended to blame poor parenting, when there's a small (but extremely visible in public) set of toddlers that just don't do what they're told. They'll grow out of it and learn some self-control, but it's just the way they are. Most toddlers are in the second category, with the third category being the largest. The important thing to take from that is that there's no one-size-fits-all when it comes to parenting. You need to adapt and learn based on the children in front of you, because what works with one set of children may not work with another.

You may be right with your parenting advice, but Alan and Peter need to work things out for themselves. However, I disagree with letting the kids decide what they want to eat, because they need a certain amount of nutrition to be healthy. What I would prefer is a second meal being cooked (more work for the parent in charge of cooking) that they know the boys will eat. They still don't get a choice about eating it, but it's a compromise in that they've previously indicated that it'll be food that they will eat.

Thank you! Yes, Ben wasn't as clever as he thought. I don't articulate in the story how the old man knew who was at the door, but there are certainly a number of ways. The easiest is if his blindness isn't 100% and that he can see vague shapes. That would mean he knew that the size of the three in front of him didn't match the apparent age from the voice. However, that's not the only way he could've known

I wouldn't wish what happened in chapter 1 on anyone, but I wish that if it did, the children would have someone safe and loving to go to.
