They have all had their eyes opened to the possibility of romantic relationships, but have also learned that giving your heart to someone can hurt. The logical thing to do would be to go back to being good friends again, but maybe, for some of them, it’s gone too far.
I really enjoy writing the Weyr stories. I know the world and the characters so well now that sometimes, if I get stuck on something else I’ll return to Pern for a while, ensuring I am always several chapters ahead of posting.
It's all gone well so far and Bavi is certainly a good fit as foster mother. There is so much for them to learn about the Weyr. It's almost like emigrating to another country. For Jevikel particularly, he's having to get used to more people than he's ever seen in all the Turns he was at Pinnacle Hold.
‘You picked a good day to start.’ Bavi was as every bit as cheery as she’d been the evening before. ‘Well, a bad one is what I really mean. The day after a Fall is always extra busy.’
The air was even more steamy than in the baths. Several large pools ringed the room, where women - and yes, it seemed as if laundry was generally women’s work at the Weyr - scrubbed and kneaded and rinsed out garments, their sleeves rolled up and hair tied back. The room was noisy with their chatter.

You must have put in so much research to set up a background in which the details are so believable. No pasta! Cheese banned! Was the Metaweb a nod towards Facebook still being involved in global communication?
Terry's dreams always pointed towards Jenny as well. Her life of crime probably started off in an opportunist way, then when she realised she could make serious money, a career.
You are correct that Police in the UK don't carry guns; however, there are armed response teams on call and they can get to an incident pretty quickly. Cynthia saying an armed robbery was taking place was the best way to ensure armed police got involved right away.
As mentioned before, further revelations are coming in later chapters.
Jenny found out at an early age that crime pays better than most other jobs. She was ambitious and it was a way to escape from her small town upbringing in an era where there weren’t a lot of opportunities for women in business.
There will be further revelations in the next chapter.
It would have gone away until the building work for the extra screens started, when the well would have been uncovered anyway.
Sometimes we don't say those three little words until something bad happens.
I was awake long before Dan’s radio alarm went off. I’d slept lightly, woken at one-thirty by a cat fight, then around six when one of the neighbours shut a door noisily and started scraping the frost off their car windscreen.
Dan always slept soundly. He was one of those lucky people who drifts off easily and stays asleep. I rolled onto my side and watched him for a while. He was totally relaxed, far removed from the worries that had kept me awake. Worry not just for myself, but for him, t
It's not done to abdicate as it is seen as an abandonment of duties. The Queen promised to reign for life and she will fulfil that promise. If she became very ill, then Charles might become Regent until she died.
Here in the UK, we normally have a Bank Holiday Monday at the end of May. Because of the Jubilee celebrations, the usual Monday Holiday was moved to Thursday 2nd June, then an additional Bank Holiday granted for Friday 3rd, making a long weekend. Confused? So am I. Anyway, it just means four days of celebrations. Where I live, it's pouring with rain today, but we had fairly good weather for the other three days and apparently the sun is shining in Scotland.
Poor Marco has had a tough life. No wonder he felt it so badly when Dani broke into the only friendship that made him feel as if he meant anything to anyone. It will be a long time before the walls come down, but at least he's beginning to trust Dani.
I second @Summerabbacat. This chapter was so well written, with the various plot threads weaving around each other and so much said in just a few words.
Jevikel didn't want to tell her in front of everyone, which is understandable. He should get the chance soon. After leaving Pinnacle, Kemi has had a good life at the Weyr. For her, all of that nightmare is almost five Turns ago.
Jevikel and Kadin will both gain confidence over the next few seven days as they settle in.
It's certainly an overwhelming experience, on top of almost getting eaten by Thread! Over the next few days, they'll have a chance to mull over what they've already learned and find out more about this strange, new place.
The typical English cheese and pickle sandwich is made with slices of Chedder or Red Leicester and the pickle absolutely must be Branstons, although anything with a similar spicy sharpness would do the same job.
Glad you have enjoyed reading this story.
In the midst of all the new experiences, at least Kemi brings some stability. After the day they'd just had, it's no wonder Jevikel and Kadin were overwhelmed.
The Benden prejudice against 'Oldtimers' is very much down to gossip and rumour. Ok, so there was a fight in the baths, but both sides were to blame for that. And F'drun letting Ryth chase Prideth was bound to be unpopular, but F'drun is a law unto himself.
