  1. All of the little details add realism to the story; the way the lighting has been designed to make people feel more comfortable; shower cubicles to deal with the problems of water and low gravity, messy pasta eating. Activating his AI was certainly a good move on Mike's part. It was good to see him interacting with others his own age, even if Chris 'doesn't swing that way'. I'm intrigued to find out who he has been matched with on Mars and to find out more about living on the Moon.

    Chapter 1

Oh, no! I did this for the genre prompt as a writing exercise. Now you want more?
  3. Queen Hildeth held herself as proudly as always, standing at the window. From the highest turret of the castle, Adalbert knew what she would see; the town below, strangely silent, as if all within held their breath. Peasants still toiled in the fields beyond, planting the spring crops, but for how long? ‘What should I do?’ he asked. His father, Lothar would have known, but he was dead, slain a month previously in a cruel ambush. Now he was King. At only twenty-two, he didn’t feel as if he h

At least five chapters, I should think. There's quite a lot to happen before the Hatching.

That’s a good point. I often wonder if Robinton could have Impressed as dragons speak to him so often in the books. As newcomers to the Weyr, it would be easy to just go along with other's opinions, but Jevikel and Kadin have seen enough of people following along blindly at Pinnacle.
  7. It's difficult to say anything different than what others have said before me. This is a great story and a fitting spinoff/sequel to 'Boss Nanny'. The characters are well delineated, the plot, which could have descended into cliché, spot on. After reading this you will feel as if you have been on a journey along with Jay and Loren. Well done @Mrsgnomie. Now you have given yourself a very hard act to follow.

    Chapter 8

“Cynthia,” angrily replied my father, “That’s the problem now. Too many people are remaining silent on the sidelines to what is happening. When they do that, then they let others control the conversation. That is why we are where we are today.” Such true words. It's so easy for people to stay silent and pretend bad things aren't happening around them, or to hope if they ignore it it will go away. Sadly, as history proves, that doesn't tend to happen. I foresee trouble at the protest, although maybe if enough media people turn up it will make the racists look bad.

Jevikel wouldn't have told Kemi his suspicions; there's nothing either of them could do in any case and he wasn't 100% sure. Vikkel has got away with it, for the time being anyway. Kadin has made a few friends among the green riders and isn't put off by the bad press they get. He's already half convinced himself that green is the way to go. As you say, Jevikel isn't so sure and in the end, the dragon chooses.

It'll be another month or so before Ramoth lays her eggs, then five weeks more to Hatching Day!

‘So we buried her up on the hill, under stones…’ Jevikel bowed his head as he finished the story. He and Kemi had walked down to the lake shore while she was on her break. Kemi was solemn, too. ‘I never thought I’d say this, but I feel sorry for her. And now I know how she and father were forced into a loveless marriage it makes me even more appalled they tried to do the same to me.’ Jevikel nodded slowly. ‘That’s how I felt, too. She wasn’t the best mother, but her life wasn’t all it

Good reasoning there. Wait and see if you were right next Monday 😄

He rescued the cat before the body was dumped, but he'd certainly have a good idea of what the space was like from going down there on a rescue mission.

Not at all.Cynthia’s House is based on one where a friend lived when I was about 12. I've always liked those rambling Victorian villas. Love your observations on Colin.

  17. I liked the way you wove in the backstory of their first meeting into this chapter. Such typical teenage behaviour, too; unable to talk about their emotional states. It's good to find out Alex feels the same way about Blair as Blair does about Alex, but I'm sure there will be an awful lot of angst before either of them admit to it.

While doing my research on decomposition of bodies I found about the formation of adipocere in some corpses. The fatty tissue turns to a wax like substance, which can remain stable for years.

As I’d suspected, we didn’t hear a great deal right away. Cynthia insisted Dan should stay at her house, in case he needed help while I was at work. He’d been told to rest at home for two weeks to speed healing and reduce the chance of his shoulder dislocating again in the future. He added me to his car insurance, so I was able to use his car to fetch anything he needed from his house. At the cinema, everyone wanted to hear the story, although even when I told them the plain facts, they wer

  23. Another great Ravello story. When I read these I always feel as if I am getting glimpses of real people's lives in this beautiful part of Italy. The theme of this one is friendship and how it inevitably changes as teenagers grow up, experiencing the ups and downs of first love and new emotions they don't quite understand yet.

It would be the natural point to end this story and a good place to commence the next.
