That was a very satisfying ending!

It seems that the evolutionary defensive response when humans feel threatened might be shared with Bzup's people. There is a little "Lord of the Flies" in all of us. Our current social media fueled atmosphere is highlighting this unfortunate trait. I'm happy that this contentious behavior seems to be absent, and cooler heads are prevailing. I'm excited and anxious about meeting Bzup's people.

I'm beginning to wonder if we are going off on a tangent regarding the unusual siffle behavior, or will it actually be relevant? I'll throw this out there, Nita earlier stated that Ana Barasesh was more concerned about terrestrial wildlife. She might already know about the reported behavior, even if nothing was previously investigated. Or it's a red herring!

I'm happy for Greg and Len. I'm also encouraged by Heyward's proposal, even if I'm still wary of his intentions. I think that rather than thanking Donald Mitchell for their present circumstances, they should thank themselves. Mitchell may have instigated Greg's changes, but Greg and Len put in all the effort.

That was just about perfect! I appreciate the Meeting before the break.

It's better for all to be open but wary, as far as Mikulsa is concerned. The problem is people with bullyish personalities tend to look for positions with authority over others. It allows those bullies to get away with bad behavior. The long lifespan on Benteen means people are probably at their professions longer than normal. Hopefully Mikulsa will respond with reason when there is resistance to his plans. Fortunately, the law is with Bzup, and Mikulsa is badly outnumbered by the crew.

Kai just made it real! By informing his social network (which is admittedly small), what was a possibility is now a plan. As for your older stories, Confounded is one of my favorites on this site. The House Always Wins is fun, the Butler is challenging! After deciding to stick with it, I enjoyed the Butler more than House.

Now that Bzup can see, could Jem teach him to read? It would greatly increase the learning speed, even faster than it already is occurring.

Eh, people are over rated. If I owned an island in Scotland (and according to Ancestry I am 30% Scottish), I would have cats, dogs, chickens and goats. My family would be welcome, to visit.

I am surprised at the sympathy for Tony and condemnation of Andy. It was my impression that the two did not have a strong committed relationship to begin with. They didn't have a lot in common, Andy enjoys his quiet life and Tony wants to party and be seen about town. As for not contacting each other for 6 months, that goes both ways. Obviously Tony didn't pick up the phone either. I think Andy has demonstrated his care for humanity quite well, as for Tony, good riddance.

I think Megan and the doc are going to provide years of entertainment for Kai and Adam! Kai didn't even get a chance to tell his sister he's not moving in with her. Oh, please let Kai and Adam continue to write letters to each other for ever! No postage needed.

Joyous! Both men are looking forward to a life with each other, honestly, playfully, hopeful.

I think that both Dante and Ahmet have been in Matt's position, they survived by changing themselves into something their younger selves would have hated. I hope Matt will survive with his humanity intact.

Amazing display of tension, relief, and unintended consequences.

The River we knew in I hate this town was a rock. This glimpse into his head is fascinating, and sad. It's like Kenji is breaking him down before building him up, but Kenji doesn't know this, because River won't (can't) tell him. Knowing he gets through this OK mellows the anxiety. This was a great chapter and feels like a turning point for River.

We know the following: Jem is special somehow to the alien blob. The aliens have advanced tech that can avoid their limited sensors. The aliens can travel by sea or air. The blobs are manufactured biological lifeforms that communicate sonically. We are guessing at all the rest. Is the sentinel blob intelligent or being controlled remotely? Is there an alien ship in space or a base located somewhere on Benteen? Have the aliens been on Benteen all along or are they recently arrived? And of course the big question, what do the aliens want? Also, what if the "aliens" arrived on Benteen before humans, doesn't that make the humans the aliens?

I'm hoping that the aliens are stuck to using sea creatures, but of course that begs the question of how they arrived in Benteen in the first place? That it is alien to Benteen seems a given, due to the different DNA sequences. It doesn't seem like they have done in depth studies of the less inhabitable areas of Benteen, just observational info from drones. The aliens could have been there for many years before humans. If the aliens directing the blobs are not in the ocean, or on land closer to the equator, could they be in space? We've already heard the satellites left in orbit are not dependable, would the humans be able to detect spacecraft? So so many possibilities, I love it!

I wonder if they will first meet at the house, as I have always imagined, or will Adam take a trip to Walter Reed to visit? He could go antiquing just as planned, a perfect excuse.

We discovered in the first chapter that he last saw Jane 3 years ago, meaning the twins are only around 2 years old. This will be a blessing, as they won't remember most of the abuse as they age. I'm not that familiar with what kind of therapy exists for toddlers, but I suppose it does.

The game felt prophetic for me as well. Even if it's not the case, it was a catalyst for the boys. Jem gave his virtual life for Nico.

I thought of Avatar also, but the big difference seems to be that many of our characters have expressed concern over hunting the creatures if they turn out to be sentient. Which I think will be the case. I hope the government will be a help rather than a hindrance.

An evening party: Dan’s tale
CincyKris commented on Robert Hugill's story chapter in An evening party: Dan’s tale
If the chapter was from Brandon’s POV we Americans would’ve needed a British slang dictionary! -
I thought about this comment several times and tried to figure out how humans were able to live so long. And, last to remember is that at this point in the future, while 500 years sounds like a long time to US, it is but three lifetimes to the colonists. Then it hit me this morning and I had to laugh, just because earth has a 365 day year does not mean this planet does! On to the next chapter.
