  1. And phlegmatic and phlegm may come from the same root word, but they aren't the same. Phlegm, which is a buildup of mucus in the throat, may be caused by various conditions, such as having a cold. You may have a certain amount of mucus in your throat at all times, because it helps to remove particles, protects the tissue in the throat, and reduces infection. When I was a kid, if you brought up phlegm from your throat before you spit, it was called a hawker, due to the sound you made to bring up the phlegm.
  2. Thank you for your response and for sharing your feelings and observations with us. Unfortunately, I've known or been aware of too many children who've died from llness or accidents, and you're correct, it doesn't seem fair. All we can hope for is that they were loved and enjoyed the short time they had to spend on earth. And loving and devoted parents, such as Gavin and Danny, help to make it easier for those that know they're going to die and be able to face it in the strong and loving arms of their parents.
  3. Thank you, and I'm glad this story touched you deeply. I have heard of other children with incurable illnesses do something similar, and at least one I know of left her mother a similar surprise in her Christmas ornament box, excet if was a handwritten note and several photos of the good times they'd spent together. Thank you for taking the time to let me know how you reacted to this story.
  4. I suppose getting hit with rocks might be less painful if you're high.
  5. Thank you, Johnny, and I'm glad you enjoyed it, even though it was a sad story. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours as well.
  6. Gavin and Danny Berger are a married couple and want to either foster or adopt a child. When a toddler named Eric is brought to their house to meet them, they instantly fall in love with him. It starts out with them being Foster parents, but eventually they’re able to adopt him. His parents relinquish their parental rights because they’re in prison and he’d be a grown man by the time they got out. It didn’t take long for Gavin, Danny, and Eric to form a very loving family relationship.
  7. It was Thanksgiving and we’d just finished eating a huge and filling meal with our extended family. Sated, we retired to the living room to spend the next couple of hours chatting about a variety of topics. Of course, this included a trip down memory lane and one of the topics we discussed was the moment when we first met our son, Eric. * * * * * My husband, Gavin, and I weren’t sure if we were eve
  8. And who gets stoned, like in her story. I mean with rocks, not marijuana or other substances.
  9. Isn't that what Shirley Jackson did in her short story The Lottery?
  10. It's always better to get it from his mouth, rather than the other end. That would mean he's giving you crap. 🤪 😵
  11. Well we're talking about Steve doing this, aren't we? And we know how determined he can be to get what he wants.
  12. I don't suppose you considered using torture?
  13. There are four classifications of oxides: base, acidic, amphoteric, and neutral. Amphoteric refers to a compound that is capable of reacting both as a base or an acid.
  14. If you hear someone use the word oxide, it's not a Brit with a cockney accent referring to the hide of an animal.
  15. The question is, could a large meteoroid one day strike earth and lead to the destruction of most or all life as we know it?
  16. I'm glad you enjoyed this story and that your company does something similar. I do have a question, though. Since it's done by and through the company, is it done anonymously? I hope the company didn't use the generousity of their employees merely as an advertisement for the company. I think the generosity is even more special when its not just a chance to blow their own horn or show how wonderful they are.

    Chapter 40 S1

I guess we were raised in different environments. Our family, and those close by, didn't have a lot of money. Therefore, when they were able to do something special they didn't feel that keeping it a secret and not telling their children everything in advance was rude. Since we didn't have much to begin with, there was always something about being able to spring a surprise when we were able to do something and that made it even more special, especially if it was something good or fun. It was also a way to keep the kids from bailing, because they wanted to know what it was. They didn't want to stay home and risk missing out on something good. And as far as speaking our minds, trust me, we did that as well.

    Chapter 40 S1

I guess that's always a possibility, but you'll have to wait to find out. The truth will be slowly revealed.
  19. Thank you for this wonderful feedback, drs. And don't feel badly about neededing tissues, because I think I used half a box as I was writing the ending of this story. I'm glad this touched you and caused you to reach for your checkbook so you can help those in need. Bless you!
  20. I'm glad to hear that your community and family take this idea to heart and share their good fortune with others. I commend all of you.

    Chapter 40 S1

Thank you, and they've made other friends as well, some you've heard about, like Barry - the RA from their freshman year, and we'll see how this turns out as well.

    Chapter 40 S1

Terry, I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Yes, some straight people are comfortable being affectionate, and possibly more, with gay friends, so we'll see what happens. As far as where Mac's parents are taking them, you'll find that out next Tuesday. 😉
  23. From the Old English unbeden, not asked or invited. Middle Dutch ongebeden. German ungebeten.
  24. If only more good people would do things like this, rather than ignored the situation or pretending it doesn't exist. Yes, Jeff was reacting to somelthing that happened in his past, but that shouldn't be a requirement to do something to help your fellow man that has not been as fortunate as you are. With that said, I'd like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a charge to do something nice for at least one other person that's down on their luck or suffering in this economy. To show you that I'm all talk and no action, I'm using a lot of my emergency money to help others. I've contributed to the Atlanta Mission and Salvation Army to provide meals, Boys Town to help youth lacking a nuclear family, and St. Jude Children's Hospital and Shriner's Children's Hospital for children dealing with medical issues.

    Chapter 40 S1

I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter. Yes, Devin and Mac did cheat, but the chance of Mac's parent's noticing what they were doing were very slim. First of all, the were far away from Mac's parents and the boys spent most of their time hiding behind one item or another. Also, Mac's parents would be looking for someone to attack their base and not watching what Devin and Mac were doing. Yes, you may see Rory and Jaxon again, but it's all I'll say about that.
