  1. Hey, he hasn't denied anything yet! Give the Goat a chance to acknowledge his problem, which would be the first step to recovery... And still 100% of voters for "No". Unanimity, anyone?
  2. Congratulations, Emoe, not for reaching an overall rather small figure, but for distillating your wisdom with parsimony, trying to make every statement count.
  3. As I cast my vote, an overwhelming 100% of voters said "No!". Methinks the poll should be closed now, since it's so blatantly answering a question only the most hardcore fans were in agreement with their leader. Who, of course, will consider himself maligned, oppressed, etc.
  4. This is a good middle-of-the-road, inclusive solution. It will prevent a feud between two rivaling parties. And still allow fans to choose their favorite name. "Hey, do you belong to the Herd?" "Yes, because I'm a Caprican."
  5. No, but there could be ten lines referring to The Scar's "Wild Wild Night" and we could be shown a wild wild night back in Los Angeles, without having these exact words written.
  6. You mean Dimitri doesn't have a funny bone?
  7. 'K
  8. You lost me with your acronyms.
  9. I voted "undecided", because I didn't have the option "No, he's in denial." Your taste for real democracy is much appreciated, though, CJ.
  10. Earthware... Tin (or plastic) Boiling Container... Dark Colour...
  11. One I found often here: Sneak: # to go stealthily or furtively; "..stead of sneaking around spying on the neighbor's house" # a person who is regarded as underhanded and furtive and contemptible # put, bring, or take in a secretive or furtive manner; "sneak a look"; "sneak a cigarette" # prowler: someone who prowls or sneaks about; usually with unlawful intentions # pilfer: make off with belongings of others # fink: someone acting as an informer or decoy for the police # slip: pass on stealthily; "He slipped me the key when nobody was looking" # furtive: marked by quiet and caution and secrecy; taking pains to avoid being observed; "a furtive manner"; "a sneak attack"; "stealthy footsteps"; "a surreptitious glance at his watch" Sneek: Dutch city Peek: # a secret look # glance: throw a glance at; take a brief look at; "She only glanced at the paper"; "I only peeked--I didn't see anything interesting" Peak: # extremum: the most extreme possible amount or value; "voltage peak" # flower: the period of greatest prosperity or productivity # acme: the highest level or degree attainable; the highest stage of development; "his landscapes were deemed the acme of beauty"; "the artist's gifts are at their acme"; "at the height of her career"; "the peak of perfection"; "summer was at its peak"; "...catapulted Einstein to the pinnacle of fame"; "the summit of his ambition"; "so many highest superlatives achieved by man"; "at the top of his profession" # the top point of a mountain or hill; "the view from the peak was magnificent"; "they clambered to the summit of Monadnock" # point: a V shape; "the cannibal's teeth were filed to sharp points" # vertex: the highest point (of something); "at the peak of the pyramid" # of a period of maximal use or demand or activity; "at peak hours the streets traffic is unbelievable" # bill: a brim that projects to the front to shade the eyes; "he pulled down the bill of his cap and trudged ahead" # to reach the highest point; attain maximum intensity, activity; "That wild, speculative spirit peaked in 1929"
  12. Yes, though Belgium is quite small (the longest you may drive across is a little bit over two hours), it still wouldn't fit on Mauritius.
  13. I offered a solution a while back, to have two separate groups of supporters. The Good (the Capricans) and the Bad and Ugly (the Herd). From all that's been posted in this thread, it seems my analysis is quite accurate, so we may move on and grow BOTH groups of supporters.
  14. The fact that it was split in chapters is good enough already. Most of the new posts at the beginning of the thread are actual comments, and the silliness kicks in later. (Well except when some faun viciously attacks the various beta/ proof/ zeta readers editors because he doesn't understand an audacious alternative spelling! ) And I'd have a hard time deciding whether I want to post a "serious" comment or a "silly" one. Last (but not least), this doesn't show any division among Capricans, but the Herd is certainly cracking up...
  15. Who has never been shitless and in wet jeans, let him cast the first stone. The funny thing is that Firefox underlines the word in red, whereas Word found it perfectly OK.
  16. There are only two multi-chapter stories so far, so I'd say no. The silliness has been a feature of the FTL thread, and trying to separate silly from serious would be counterproductive, IMNSHO.
  17. Yeah, why do you leave your parents to get a bossy manager to act worse than parents? (As she seems more difficult to fool.) I'll say, teach your girlfriend to walk in high heels, Helen. And to get a Dorothy costume, Mary-Janes are easier to move around in.
  18. So herdian to mock Capricans' nationality!
  19. Or that your lurking should get quieter.
  20. Now, now... What's this rule about "we get more votes so we win" and "number of votes counts, number of posts don't count". It seems you Herdians reinvent the rules as things come. Graeme will have to come in again and settle the matter in a fair, unbiased Caprican way.
  21. Judging from the number of Capricans' posts, I'd say the poll is closed and Capricans won. Let the Herd lurk quietly in the background, building up a new silent majority.
  22. My thoughts are similar to Shadowgod's on this one. Seeing a little hope, or having positive messages can empower people, especially young ones, and let them know they're not freaks. Being on line got me to "witness" some drama, as a talented kid (the one whose art I posted in the laughter thread) first let me know of having found a BF, then got pulled off line by his parents when he came out. It seems some Marvel comic had given him the courage to do so, and he thought that it would turn out just as in the story... Hence a fun-loving, gifted kid is likely to grow bitter, thanks to bigoted parents. So, no, life is not all pink and easy. At the same time, all the information this bot got, and the (hopefully) thoughtful words we exchanged may also help him to get through without being brainwashed. And with positive stories and testimonies, you have to think about long-term consequences, when it will eventually become a non-issue. So yes, we don't have to ignore the problems and discrimination; let's try to voice out a positive message, and then fight for what's right. These go pretty well together.
  23. The silence of the Herd people means Capricans win, doesn't it?
  24. I'd say the risk would be higher to use words such as "bitch", or even more colorful ones that I should refrain from quoting, than to read fiction in which ropes are involved. But indeed the metaphors used in sentimental fiction often are those relating to freedom and lack thereof. As Jan pointed out, the section of the sub-forum dedicated to common confusions should be studied by all.
  25. Cheers! Happy Birthday!
