Skittish. Had to sit with that for the hours since this published. Is Jubal the only one skittish? Seeing this unfold through his eyes it’s plain he’s skittish. I’d award second place to Reid who I want to believe wants to help. To offer acceptance? To help take care of Lucas…still? Mattress is more comfortable at home. The man said so himself (hisself ❤️). Can we get there?

Not that I missed the tissue warning, I just didn’t think I’d need more than one. I always expect to learn things (bacon butties, TK Maxx, contemplating the reverse nature of a McDonald’s drive-thru in the UK) but this glimpse into the Baxter Boys’ life leaves me feeling things too. The nod to Alan Turing destroyed the second tissue. Beautiful.

Jubal’s breakfast really caught my attention too: “The six eggs with that salted bacon had me thinking of a coronary…” The word count in the comments has to be higher than the chapter and every single one is a great, fun read! Speaking of fun…Isn’t it time for someone, anyone, to have some? The cabin is largely complete, and I love love love the accuracy and the construction details, but… Is it time now for building something just as true and strong between these farmers?

Next chapter seems more likely to need the suspension of disbelief. My cancer was far south of Lacy’s but well-meaning people will offer out-there remedies. Lime juice in lots of celery juice just to mention one. After Smokey sings, can Dylan get some Marvin Gaye?
