Chapter 177 Stephanie's Secret
SilentandBroken commented on Dodger's story chapter in Chapter 177 Stephanie's Secret
First this chapter SHOULD be a perfect example of how easily Robby is manipulated…but because he’s so obtuse, we all know it’ll go right over his head…again…I of course am speaking of Nathan and Rory’s countless times he’s mentioned it. Anyway, I really enjoyed this chapter because it was not your regular people twisting Robby. I also wanted to see how Rory would react the next day and he did exactly what i suspected he would. IF he comes back around it’ll be a good solid week plus. I do like the idea of Miranda speaking to him however. Although I don’t think he wilL be very receptive. Plus if Rory and his new girl truly did play hookie from school together part of me wonders if it didn’t go as planned and Rory ends up frustrated on more than one level. Part of me thinks his curiosity what it’s like to play on the other team has him more aroused and curious than he’s ready to admit it. but if he finds playing around with a new girl just doesn’t do it for him anymore, he’s kinda gonna have to admit to himself -

What Breaks a Man Open
SilentandBroken commented on Tony S.'s story chapter in What Breaks a Man Open
I suppose everyone deserves a second chance. Steven and Kitt need to drop the pride. Tom and Mateo need to talk sense into Kitt for thinking life would be better without Matt. -
The Months That Make Boys Older
SilentandBroken commented on Tony S.'s story chapter in The Months That Make Boys Older
Tom was wise in his actions and how he protected Kitt. Same goes for his advice. He too, as an adult with knowledge now of a minor away from his family, has to tread carefully legally. If Stephen gets wind, he could pursue a lot of accusations and possibly even sue civilly. It could completely ruin Tom. That said, I think a smart judge would see through it. The smart play here would be to let the boys meet provided Kitt decides to. Things could still go the other way. Not likely but it’s still possible. -
The Edges of New Lives
SilentandBroken commented on Tony S.'s story chapter in The Edges of New Lives
The aforementioned comments of the lack of proper follow up regarding Kitt not being reported are on point. I’ll take it one step further. I’m not happy with Matt’s parents either turning a blind eye. Especially Matt’s father telling Matt that it isn’t their business. You are parents and you know Kitt is still under 18! No excuse! I’m glad Mateo has decided not to pursue Kitt romantically. Kitt doesn’t need that kind of stress at this time with someone new especially a co-worker. I am also glad Tom hasn’t either. Kitt is too vulnerable and besides, Kitt’s heart belongs to Matt. Speaking of Matt, his drive and motivation is good but also a little concerning in that he should be smart enough and old enough to go to the authorities himself. He should be making flyers and flooding both towns. All of this lack of common sense is mind blowing to me. -
Stephen gets served humble pie in the best way possible. Unfortunately he misunderstood the lesson. What a righteous prick. What irks me most with Kitt’s parents is that Susan is playing passive aggressive divorce mind games with him instead of doing what every other mother would do and put out flyers, call the news channels, get the cops involved to find Kitt. But no. She’s going to act all petulant and guilt trip her husband so passive aggressively it’s laughable instead. Not that he doesn’t deserve every minute of it. I do however find it funny she didn’t intercede sooner with his dictatorship style of fatherhood. Suddenly her “child” is taken away and she is all going for the best mother of the year award. Whatever. I applaud Matt’s focus and his acceptance that if not soon, but one day possibly Kitt and he will reconnect. Tom…isn’t a shock ..nor really a disappointment. I think there’s more to him that what he’s told Kitt to this point. We shall see.

Sadly it is beginning to feel like Kitt is giving up on reconnecting with Matt😔 -
Invisible Threads Tighten
SilentandBroken commented on Tony S.'s story chapter in Invisible Threads Tighten
We all saw this sickness coming. The body needs fuel to fight off any potential infection. Rest is not enough. Fluids are not enough. Pneumonia is an extremely high probability at this point. And yes, left untreated quickly, can still be fatal. Silently. There’s so many other physical signs that manifest and are mistaken for something else. Kitt looks like a 5 lb shit warmed over and curb stomped into a 2lb box and drop kicked down the road. I can almost 💯 guarantee there is mold hidden in that apartment. This has the makings of a very high risk situation for him and he’s borderline collapse ready from both just starvation. As for Matt, I’m sure he’s not far from his own issues. No appetite. All drive. No refueling. No rest. All bad factors. Both boys are playing Russian roulette with their bodies without them realizing it. The tension in the story at this point is extremely thick. We as readers can feel something is going to happen that has us on the edge of our seats . Tom needs to take charge as the lone adult who recognizes the problem and has the means to do something about it. He needs to have Kitt stay with him for a better environment and food alone. I am almost confident he saw through Kitt’s age lie. Mateo too. In fact, by Kitt telling Mateo he told Tom he lied about his age to Tom should tip off Mateo Kitt is underage 18. -
Crossroads in Two Towns

Ugh. Matt why couldn’t you have a hankering for a burrito, a taco or two ?! Dammit boy! -

A lot of us have that experience I’m afraid. You’re not alone. Hugs. -
Is Tom widowed? Will he be there to stop Kitt from making a mistake and keep him from turning tricks for money? Mateo may not realize how desperate Kitt is for cash. Kitt’s situation is not sustainable. He knows it….i think. It’s only been 8 days. Hopefully he will open up to Tom more soon. matt needs intervention and he needs to go to the authorities about Kitt. Kitt being 17 makes him still a minor. That’s a problem for daddy dearest as he kicked him out. He could face charges for child abandonment. Kitt’s mother needs to get a backbone. Go to the authorities against hubby’s wishes.

Even with the highly charged emotional pain throughout the chapter, clarity comes through for Kitt and Matt. Kitt reached acceptance for his orientation and gave it voice. At 17, from his background not only is that very courageous, it is prove of his incredible mental strength. The kicker here is, as I understood it in the last chapter, the only person to see the remainder of Matt’s texts were Kitt’s father. I wonder what it said. For a few chapters now (a few months I guess) Matt has been flirting with voicing how he truly feels to Kitt and it’s taken him almost as long to realize it too, let alone understand it. Maybe what he said to Kitt in that last message is him opening up . Kitt fleeing town to protect Matt makes sense but I don’t think Matt realizes that’s what he’s doing yet. He’s going to think Kitt did that thing again to the extreme. I think that’s what he realized once he hit the bus stop. And then his heart truly broke. When he hit his knees my heart broke for him. Now I worry for him as much as Kitt. Both boys could spin into a sever depression.

First thoughts..sigh we were all afraid this was going to happen. Suffice it to say, mistakes were made all around. But the reality is, they were bound to happen at some point. Kitt got careless. His dad got found what he was looking for in his mind even though he didn’t find a damn thing in reality. He completely overrode and ignored the explanation he demanded Kitt to give when he discovered the Matt’s messages. He doesn’t care about Kitt’s heart or interests. Hell he can’t even go to Kitt’s swim meets and big events and show him support his success. He wants a “model son”. A trophy to show off. In my opinion Kitt’s father drove Kitt to Matt’s boundless affirmation and affection because he was a tyrant and had no love to give Kitt. Now things are going to get interesting. Let’s hope Matt doesn’t have a breakdown himself
-
You’re spot on
-
Ok the love the boys have for each other is heartwarming. I wouldn’t call Kitt’s dad an ass so much as I would a tyrant. He thinks he’s got Kitt’s life all planned out. I worry Kitt pushes back too hard and his dad gets violent. Matt would flip if Kitt showed up at school with a black eye from his dad or worse.

More compliments traded thoughtlessly. I love it

The Quiet Summer Before Everything Breaks
SilentandBroken commented on Tony S.'s story chapter in The Quiet Summer Before Everything Breaks
What I like is exactly the detail of the subtle things that are noticed. The smells and sounds, little quirks of both boys and all the details of the surroundings the author brings to the reader’s attention as if it is Kitt and or Matt thinking it. A hyper vigilant anxious laden person would notice. I also agree that a breakdown is coming. -
Hmmm this chapter somewhat reminded me of Dead Poets Society and the kid who offed himself because his dad was much like Kitt’s. There differences obviously but this particular parallel is concerning for Kitt. Hell it’s disturbing for Matt too because he too is also at a crossroads of his own. Good chapter.

The Warmth and What It Brings with It
SilentandBroken commented on Tony S.'s story chapter in The Warmth and What It Brings with It
Sigh. As observant as Matt is to Kitt’s isolation behavior, he’s oblivious to a lot too. I suppose that’s to be expected. He’s also somewhat on the fence with his OWN feelings towards Kitt but he gets props for voicing them to Kitt where Kitt is not and does not voice his own towards Matt. Lindsay and Kitt’s father’a expectations for Kitt are a HUGE distraction for Kitt. I agree with the general sentiment of the comments that a mental break for Kitt is looming if something doesn’t change for the better for him. -
Perfectly stated. I was close on tension beginning to show guess last chapter. Seems so far that the author is only showing readers glimpses of home life for Kitt. I wonder if more will be written about that. Kudos to Matt for having the courage to call Kitt out and for being honest with him. What happens next is going to be interesting. Outside of Matt, Kitt is a loner with classmates and acquaintances but no “friends”. At least from what we can tell so far anyway. Not even on the swim team which I find interesting to note. One would think there would be a few given the same shared sport they’re in. A spark needs to happen somehow some where for Matt and Kitt to take the next step closer to each other. This is a very well written story.

Summer and Small Beginnings
SilentandBroken commented on Tony S.'s story chapter in Summer and Small Beginnings
Ok so, a few things I picked up. Kitt has an huge need of affirmation which his parents don’t do well. When his father actually does provide a compliment it’s laced with an expectation for Kitt to “be respectful” which only makes things worse for Kitt. They’re performance driven people with very high expectations and standards with regards to Kitt. This gives him a very poor sense of self worth and anxiety. Shit it looks like MY life at 14. Matt is the absolute opposite and exactly what Kitt needs and thrives on when they’re together. I LOVE how Matt is so forthcoming with praise and compliments to Kitt. The dichotomy of the two families is frighteningly realistic. Matt’s family is full of love and care and is shows it in their acts. Kitt’s is a cold to-do list of tasks. No wonder Kitt is drawn to Matt so much. He’s a dry sponge to that kind of love. I have a feeling things are about to get rough at home and Kitt is going to try to hide it from Matt and Matt won’t have any of it. -
Summer and Small Beginnings

Maybe the author meant 8th and never went back to change it. Let’s call it 8th grade. Loophole fixed 😂 -
Yes! I bet he has ask permission to use the bathroom from his father and the response is “be quick”. I already hate him
-
Same. I am hooked. I love how he describes that feeling of nervous shyness and attraction. It’s subtle yet so on point. Just ..sigh.
