    Another odd (coincidental?) parallel from current literature - "Contact" (the movie based on Carl Sagan's book of the same name) had an alien setting on a beach, though there was no roasting of lizards nor vaguely homoerotic "incidents" ... and no bizarre timepieces present in the landscape. At least, that's what popped into my head. Maybe I'm getting carried away with Dr. Who and his ilk.

    The mind boggles. My addled brain finds echoes of everything and anything ranging from Dr. Who to C. S. Lewis. And given my limited reading and experience, these musings could be wildly inaccurate ... or perhaps the tip of the iceberg ... or maybe entirely irrelevant.

    This chapter is so emotive, so filled with angst, so replete with possibilities ... so true to life and its yearnings. Most of us, I would imagine, have been there. Maybe we still are. As my own father admonished me so many years ago, we need to be kind to each other.

    I knew there was a reason that I like @Josh Aterovis. Great story so far. And now I've got some extra context for Killian ... and Asher. Having come to Killian and co a bit late in the game, I'll have to piece it all together. Should be fun!

    In a way, I'm speechless. This was not my world. I would have died had I "conformed." Each experience I "endured" in gay bars over the years were different. Many of them were fun (a good sense of humor helped). I'm not Mr. Personality, and I'm certainly not Mr. Studly or Mr. Chic or Mr. Gorgeous. But I had more than my share of dances with great guys, more than my share of dalliances with nice guys, and more than my share of, well ... fill in the blank. There were some disappointments, but those were easy to get past. Tears? Of course ... I balled my eyes out in more than one trans-Atlantic phone call. But, well, maybe I was just lucky. And maybe it says something that I didn't "get lucky" ultimately in a bar.
